Announcing the BCB Kickstarter project!

Posted Image

After months of planning we're finally ready to go! Our two new books — "Bittersweet Candy Bowl Volume Two: Starting Over" and "Ask Roseville High" — are launching on Kickstarter and we'd just love to have your support!

If you're interested in 100+ new BCB pages that won't hit the website, want exclusive rewards or have just been holding out for a book bundle deal, check it out!

September 12, 2012: Kickstarter stretchgoal: CANDY!

Posted Image

We made it! Both “Starting Over” and “Ask Roseville High” are getting prepped for print and we couldn’t be happier. But now: a stretchgoal!

First up are character prints like Paulo and Daisy above. Make your pledge, and if we hit $25k total funding everybody will get prints of the main four!

September 17, 2012: Kickstarter stretchgoal: character prints!

Posted Image

Wow, we hit the 25k stretchgoal in just a few days! Everybody who orders a book is now gonna get a print set of these four character portraits. We hope you like them!

But that's not all! If we can hit $30k we're going to finally make a new batch of BCB candy! Only 5 days left!

_____

September 20, 2012: BCB VOL. 2 KICKSTARTER PROJECT: THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

Posted Image

We got the prints! We got the candy! But the clock is ticking! Less than 30 hours until our Kickstarter campaign ends for good. WHOA!

Just a quick reminder that we're also taking PayPal and mail pledges through the BCB Store. Just follow the instructions on that page!

September 25, 2012: It's over!

Thanks so much for the wonderful response to our Kickstarter project. We’re wrapping up work on the Ask Roseville High book right now, and should be done with Starting Over in a few weeks. Then comes the exciting task of order fulfilment!

A big thank you to everyone who pledged! (If you missed out, sign up for our newsletter and we’ll let you know when we open preorders.

as\fhksdf this is too cool! I really want that Jessie charm~ Hopefully I can find a way for my cash to become internet money! ;w;

I wish I could donate more, but hopefully time and 5-10 bucks is all right. n.n

Am I the only person who knew that this was coming?
Because I knew this was coming since I accidentally found Suit's Twitter post about a Kickstarter program that he was doing.
  • #3

Oh cool. I don't think you'll see someone claim the $1000 for a while, but the other stuff more likely. Also, jumping from $300 to $700 in prizes is a big jump eh?
Can we also send money via mail with this or does it have to be online?

Someone already claimed the 1000 dollar prize.

I want to know who has a thousand dollars of disposable income.

Thats it. I don't even have other words to say. I'm actually speechless.

Otherwise, good luck on the project.
  • #10

Cool, I never supported a kickstarter project before. I'm game! 8-)
  • #11

Wow, someone already backed the $1000 pledge? That's friggin' hardcore.

Holy fuck nuggets, that's a lot of stuff!
I was wondering, for the $250 and $300 pledges, where $250 also gets you an answer from the blog, does that carry over into $300 and is included with the original page, or is it just a case of "one or the other"?

Wonder who grabbed the $1000 pledged item *dejected*
  • #13

I'm more curious as to why there is only one slot available for top pledge. Kinda sellin yourselves short.

because: "plus both sides of the original cover art for “Starting Over”, framed beautifully in the glass of our old scanner!" so there is only one copy of that.
  • #15

One or the other, ChewySmokey.

I'm impressed that the $1000 level has sold, and so quickly too. I guess if you have one hardcore fan with a lot of disposable income, then you've hit the jackpot. XD

Getting close to 50% pledged, and in less than 24 hours too, so that's impressive as well.
  • #17

$1k seriously? Wow, someone must be loaded or have a REALLY good job.
  • #18

You guys are fetishising the top prize a lot. Personally I think the $700 level is more interesting.
  • #19

This may be a stupid question but if I was to make donation that was equal to 2 pledge amounts would I be able to get both pledge rewards, say for example I put forward $550 would that give me an original page of ask BCB and the main archive?
  • #20

Damn. The most I figure I can do is $45.
  • #21

Well, consider the price differences. So long as you tell me what your intentions are (preferably as soon as the Kickstarter ends, in an email so I can keep tabs on it all as I figure out who gets what) you can probably work out what we've valued all the higher end rewards at and just add that to your pledge. BCB pages are $100, answers are $50, original chapters are $500.. etc. If you need specific confirmation, ask me.
  • #22

Hey hey if people spend 1000$ on LEGO, someone can spend 1000$ on a really good webcomic.
  • #23

Congrats on reaching the 14k goal!! :D
  • #24

15k. That's a lot of $5 subway sandwiches.

  • #25

You guys do know it costs $20k+ to just to print and distribute these books, right?
  • #26

No, actually we didn't. But some of us were actually surprised that you had set the kickstarter goal at only 14k anyway. ;)

So should I guess that the stretch goal will in fact be $20,000?
  • #28

Then why did you set the goal to something lower?
  • #29

Complicated reasons.
  • #30

That actually satisfies my question.
  • #31

Those character prints looks really good for the stretch goal, hope it gets there as I'd really like to get copies with the book
  • #32

just about to back but i was wondering with update 3 do the ebooks get the character prints? if not im changing to the 60
  • #33

I would assume it would only be for the people that bought a physical copy to reduce the cost of shipping since they would be sent together

I don't think the Paulo portrait is executed nearly as well as the Daisy one. Paulo's head is classic form, but his legs seem a bit wonky and not quite aligned with his body. His white fur patch doesn't seem positioned quite right either.
  • #37

I noticed the kickstarter is almost at the stretch goal! I don't want to jinx it, but with a whole week left it should be granted! Yay!

I noticed that too. That's quite a surge, considering that last night there was just under $21,000 worth of pledges. So that's an increase of some $4,000 in the past 24 hours or so.

Google cache tells me that at approximately 14:26 GMT (about 8 hours ago), there were 222 backers who'd pledged a total of $21,448. So that means either (a) one or two of the six new backers who joined since that time pledged quite a considerable sum, or (b) some existing backers increased their pledges by a considerable amount, or (c) both (a) and (b).

We've had a nice boost of pledges, but more than half of the last day is due to an astonishing increased pledge...! Uh, wow.

Did the person who went for the $1000 level massively boost his/hers or something?

Before we get too excited, the caveat is that backers can decrease or cancel their pledges at any time during the fundraising drive*. Hope it holds though!

* The exception is that backers may not reduce or cancel their pledge in the last 24 hours of a drive, if doing so would drop the campaign below its goal. That exception only applies for the original goal though, and not for stretch goals.
  • #42

I've been surprised at how often people increase and decrease their pledges. Whenever I use Kickstarter I think about it, pledge, and that's it! Yet some people are constantly shuffling around. No more up than down, they do both!
  • #43

I guess people can both manage to spare more cash in time, or find other kickstarter projects and split their pledge to support those as well.
Or just find out they suddenly need the money for something else, of course.
  • #44

yay for a kickstarter! i donated to get the second book but i still want the first (so please dont take it off the web ;-; ) im very happy i get character prints and the book. man i was torn between buying this or homestuck stuff, but this is worth it 8-D am i being a noob -is worried- first posts always make me nervous

You did the right thing! ;)
  • #46

Congrats on reaching 26000+ with only 6 days to go! I'd have pledged if I had the money available, but unfortunately the last few months have sucked for me.
  • #47

>BCB Candy
As a candy connoisseur, I must have this in my life.
Right now.
  • #48

I've had it a couple times, it's nice and sweet.
  • #49
