Bittersweet Candy Bowl Forums

My friend wanted me to do fill out one of those art memes for the comic, and surprise the author and readers. I thought, hey why not, how hard could a little pixel art be, right? Anyway about 2 hours in, and loads more to do. Redid all the background, separators, one cute Sandy, one pixelized Lucy courtesy of Taeshi herself. So props to her, most of the work will be using her stuff as heavy references, since I couldn't draw a furry to save my life.

How does Taeshi draw expressions so naturally, it makes my inner-pixel artist cry. I can't get the eyes in the back well, and my shading is all over the place. Shouldn't be spriting with lack of sleep, and a fever . Oh well, progress update for favourite scenes in the comic.




There is indeed flying notes that are uncolored, a badly colored sitting Lucy, as well as a crouching one.

Getting there a bit better now. Redid shading on one lucy, now to redo the other two completly. Seems the golden effect I wanted is working on the notes.

I want to finish it, but as I go my motivation is waning. Ah well, 2 out of 12 boxes done.



Props to Taeshi again, it's all her art uses as references. For me I love the scenes where she is singing, wanted to toss in more but I figured that was enough as is. So I chose the one from the summer arc (arrival) where she is singing with her pets, since that's the beginning of the end of happy Lucy. The next one is from Return in the same arc, the night she talks with Zach about how Mike will move on. There is of course the confession from A distance apart, and Lucy having to confront Yashy about Mike and pretty much breaking down. Depressing, dark, bitter-sweet. It's why we are all here no?

That being said, excuse the crappy notes and crappy clef. Feel like they have an over presence on the whole piece, might go back and try and work it out when I have the motivation again!

These are very nice, but shouldn't a pixel artist know not to use Arial?

I could do all the font by hand too, if you really insist. Just will take a lot longer.

I just had my first day of class... 9 Hour labs will be the death of me.

Ya sorry for the lack of progress, I should have my first free time this weekend to get this pixel-art meme done. I was right, 9 hour labs ARE the death of me.
