Erection 2012

Ah voting. Good times. I totally fucked up and forgot to change my voter registration so hey! I ended up voting by mail because of it, so I have no proof of voting left!

Not that it matters, because I don't live there anymore so the only vote that matters is state and federal congressional seats. Other than that it was worthless for me to vote!

I JUST NEGATED YOUR INCORRECT VOTE

HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL

I applaud your ability to explain yourself in a thoughtful and provoking manor, that clearly gives context to your decision. Especially considering how some of the conversation on the previous page discussed this very topic and the reason's some people had for and against this very action. Your input is really appreciated.

Voting is helping? I was under the impression that voting was an action to try to have a candidate elected who best serves your goals/interests. Local or National, a vote is a vote is a vote.

Well it's not really the voting that is my problem. In this fools opinion politicians are greedy and power hungry. I dont like the fact that congress can pass a bill even if the president vetows it simpley becase they whant the bill to pass. Why do they have to be split democrat or republican they are showing that even or own government cant get along. Just slip this in here your new avatar is boobtastic pants.

Voting for the 2012 erection is tomorrow, will the results be hard and strong or flaccid and reeking of bibles? ;)

I hope Obama wins :)

Well, Nate Silver has him at 92%, so...

Pretty bad news for Romney.

There's a good chance it will all be over at 8pm PST. If you hear either Ohio or Virginia go for Obama, you can just go to sleep, as it will be over at that point.

The real question is how big the margin of victory will be. It will be quite bad for the Republicans if they lose North Carolina again, and this election in general is pretty bad for them - if they can't win when their base is fired up with hate for Obama and democrats, how will they do in years where they aren't as fired up?

Sadly, though, when I think of Obama, I think of this:

I really hope Obama wins, because if he doesn't I think all my European friends will consider me personally to blame. Even though I'm not American. And even if I was, I wouldn't be old enough to vote.

I'm pretty sure it is up to them.
  • #84

Yeah I totally missed the Puerto Rico thing too; if they actually finally join up as a state it will be pretty awesome, even if we do have to replace all our flags. I'll have to buy a 50 star one to save.

We need to turn Washington DC into a state too, so we get 52. Course, the Republicans hate that idea because DC will go to the democrats and give them +2 senators, +1 house seat. Though to be fair, so will Puerto Rico most likely.

Another interesting thing is that it looks like the Democrats will likely pick up 2-3 senate seats. The house looks like it will be substantially unchanged though, sadly.
  • #85

The House excepted, I'm pretty satisfied with the results tonight. Though maybe Florida could use another twelve years to unfuck itself.

It's funny how many people I talk to who won't vote/ didn't vote because they feel their vote doesn't mean Anything.

Although to be fair these people live in Texas. Our votes really don't matter. Maybe the whole popular vote initiative will occur next election and turnout will increase.

(And yes I know Obama won popular vote by 300k or so)

Yeah, I live in Missouri, so I knew about this months ago. He pissed a lot of people off and pretty much killed his career with that comment. Several republicans, even Romney himself, asked him to step down. Funny enough, his last ad (which was aired after MONTHS of attack ads by Claire McCaskill targeting) said almost word for word, "You don't have to like the things I say. Just vote for me so I can vote yes on everything Romney wants to do." Yeah, he was pretty desperate.

What's sad is 39% of the people in my area actually voted for this dumbass. I on the other hand could not vote for Claire McCaskill fast enough.

Peurto Rico just voted to be admitted into the union. Congress still has to approve it. good thing is, is that Obama has stated in the past that Puerto Rico shows interest in becoming a state, that he'll support them all the way. so at least Puerto Rico will Obama pushing congress a bit
  • #92

I am so excited about Puerto Rico becoming a state, I've been spreading this little factoid around all day cause no one seems to know it. :(

Puerto Rico is already a state. But they call it "Florida," for some reason.

People who don't vote should be embarrassed to admit so. If you assume your vote won't count, you become part of the problem automatically.

I drove a hundred miles yesterday to take a friend of mine to the polls. She has MS. What's their excuse?

Results for the past 50 odd years.
  • #97

I'm glad the election's results matched your hopes. Or the hopes of most of you at least.
Not that I really supported anyone, but if I had to choose one I think I'd have voted for Obama.
  • #98

My extremely southern (read: racist) dad actually went liberal this year and voted Obama. Though it really didn't matter in hindsight since Tennessee is always Republican but it was actually a pretty close race these year here in the volunteer state so that's kinda cool, I share cause the smart kid I am forgot to register in time to vote, oh well I'll be ready for 2016 I suppose.

Fun fact though, my college has been invited to sing at the Inauguration this year so expect a lot of angry, conservative university students singing A Capella in January.

I went a bit out and read some stuff on this Puerto Rico thing. Apparently it wasn't exactly that clear-cut for them.

http://www.cnn.com/2...rico/index.html

Won't it be grand to have to update all those electronic systems that list the US states.
