LucasArts/LucasFilm sold to Disney?

So, what are your thoughts about this rather unexpected event?
  • #1

At first, I was saddened to hear both that disney bought them, and that there would be sequels. I love star wars, but I always thought six was enough. However, I read a review which pointed out two things that gave me a new outlook. To turn the disney thing around, the article pointed out the examples of Marvel and Pixar, and how they both were somewhat struggling until disney bought them, and now are huge successes. As for the sequels, there were actually numerous books written about the Star Wars universe after episodes I-VI, so they've got an extensive resevoir of knowledge to go off of. That being said, I still don't believe for a second the planned sequels will top the original trilogy, but they'll probably be pretty good.

So, is there going to be song and dance breaks in the middle of light saber duels during episode VII? That would make my world.

The worst part will be the old time Star Wars fans. They will never stop bitching. NEVER. It will be 50 fucking years from now and they'll be the guys claiming anybody who likes "the new" Star Wars movies are fucks.

I'm not saying they're wrong; I'm just trying to prepare for the inevitable annoyance.

PIXAR and LucasFilm are back together again, yay.

and in all honesty, Disney does a p good job of not meddling around to much with the properties they acquire. the only thing they've done with MARVEL is increase its presence on television by demanding more shows and putting them on their networks and increasing advertising. basically, if the new Star Wars movie is bad (which it will be considering that the previous six movies weren't that good either), it'll all be LucasFilm's fault, not Disney's.

I look forward to when Star Wars VII is considered a failure upon release and Disney pulls most of the money out of the next movie and puts it into My Highschool Musical 4, 5 and 6.

But honestly I can see potential in a new Star Wars just so long as it focus on the New republic empire and start with a new character. If StarWars: Dark Forces could rival even the original trilogy in story then there is a place.

I'm a fan of PIXAR but not MARVEL. Jury is still out on LucasFilm.

I hadn't realized that Disney was planning on making a new Star Wars movie. I thought Lucas was right to say in the past that six movies were enough. Hell, even just sticking to the original trilogy might have been better, although granted I did think "Revenge of the Sith" was better than "Return of the Jedi".

Also I think the expanded universe books already adequately cover the years after the Battle of Yavin. In particular, I would consider the Thrawn trilogy to still be among the best Star Wars novels ever, despite some of the details having since been superseded by the prequel trilogy.

Theres a lot of Star wars. Theres movies, tv shows, comic books, and books. It has been a huge series for years! But, its getting old. I feel that Lucasfilms is running out of ideas. I'd love to see what Disney has in mind. Lets give a chance before we give them crap.

Star Wars wasn't who Lucas was, he expanded it past the first movie to sell toys to kids, it was really just his flag ship capital. Lucas never actually made merchandise anyways, he leased the rights to it, he was probably sick of signing off rights for the twenty billion star wars products that exist.

I'm sure he's just old and tired of dealing with it.

If they give me a live action Ahsoka Tano then I'll consider it a win.

Well, that's what happens with it:
