I poked around a bit and didn't find a thread for this. I finally finished the sixth season of the new series on netflix, and started noticing all things doctor who in my life. And i've also stopped crying over House ending. Now I feel like buying a sonic screwdriver and saying, "Don't Blink" to my friends whenever I see a statue.

Stephen Moffat was the head writer for each of the episodes where the Weeping Angels appear. he has contradicted himself nearly every time they appeared. he overuses paradoxes to the extent that I really don't think he really understands how paradoxes work. he creates a lot of the contradictions in regards to previous canon out and leaves it up to "lol it's sci fi and time is a timey wimey wibbley wobbley ball of lololol get over it faggots" when people notice.

Moffat is ruining Doctor Who because he is a terrible fuckshit.

His reasoning for contradicting previous canon is the time war, which apparently rewrote a lot of stuff. Every time i've seen the weeping angels appear, which is about 3 times, it just looks like he keeps on adding new rules.

Is it really fair to shove all the older doctors in one category? I mean I know people who love Doctor 4 but can't stand anyone else, this always really bothers me when people do polls on the Doctor and just like, shove the first 8 together, they all represented him very differently you know.

And Sarah Jane deserves her own check box along with K9.

falconboy, all the Time War did was give them a new starting point to work with. that's it. it didn't disregard old canon. it just made things easier for the writers to work with when bringing the series back. Moffat's excuse is still shit.

I could have sworn Vastra was always a lizard. Strax was brought back by someone, but the resurrection took away some of his mind. I kind of liked the Doctor "retiring." I agree with you on your third greentext, though. I want a companion that isn't interested in him at all. Donna's the only one that fit.

The christmas episode was great, overall. I sense the upcoming plot twists.

by female lizard detective lady, i meant that why was she suddenly a detective. from the little we saw of her previously, we had no way of reaching that conclusion about her. it's like Moffat was all "let's make her a detctive! even better! she'll be the inspiration for Sherlock Holmes! i'm so damn smart!"

i really didn't like this new Christmas special. i liked last year's much better. Moffat is a writer who works better when he's actually working within the constraints of another writer or writing an episode that is meant to be stand-alone.

my thoughts on the episode
  • having Strax come back via "resurrection" is cheap. sure, he comes from a race of clones, so it shouldn't be too hard to bring him back in theory, but we aren't given any real reason for him to come back. furthermore, why did Vastra of all people bring him back?
  • Clara/Oswin is some sort of weird mix of Rose and River Song, minus the background. she's annoying and the fact that Moffat seems to want to write her as something special, as something more than just an ordinary person kinda ruins what made Doctor Who fun: ordinary people who find out that even though they are ordinary that they can do amazing things.
  • the Doctor retiring is an incredibly stupid idea. supposedly he "retired" from helping people because he lost Amy and Rory. that kinda makes Eleven a huge fucking baby considering how previous Doctors dealt with loss of a companion. the way Moffat deals with character guilt is strange.
  • in the end, we still didn't get any real answers about the snowmen other than that they mirror the thoughts of individuals. we have no idea what they really were, where they came from, etc.

RTD was okay. not perfect, but okay. there were quite a few episodes which had respectful nods to the classic series and, for the most part, he was consistent with Doctor Who lore. i thought his "new" Cybermen was an odd choice, but I tolerated it as long as those specific Cybermen were the product of an alternate universe. didn't really care for whenever they appeared outside of that context, but then again, most of those instances were during Moffat's run. his finale with Ten was really messy, though.

i agree. it seems as if new who just forgets them completely, using the Cybus design whenever they appear, esp. during Moffat's run. at least RTD era would explain why Cybus designs were there even if it was just in passing, like in "The New Doctor"
