RickAstley: Sorry to burst your fantasy bubble, but all the characters are pretty much straight except for Jessica and maybe David. :smirk:

Jayfeather21: Jessica is indeed secretly interested in Lucy! Lucy's not aware of it, but in any case she'd prefer guys.

It's nice that Paulo and Jasmine can have an amicable farewell. Kind of a bittersweet moment for them, I'd say. Although in the last panel, I think Paulo's still waiting for Lucy to come to the party. Both he and Jessica will likely be disappointed in that regard, as I'd think the chapter would end with parting remarks between Lucy and Augustus.

She does. He told her about Lucy sometime way back when (I'm sure Wacko knows the page number :3) and more recently when he went to her fashion show he told her about how he blew up at her.

Mike presumably did tell Sandy about his 'unfaithfulness' (i.e. Lucy) on panel 10 of this page. (That particular page used to have additional comments by Taeshi, you can see them here.) However, in "Just Beautiful", Mike never actually told Sandy about what happened in "December", other than the bit about severing ties with Lucy. The thing is that Mike doesn't want to worry Sandy unnecessarily, so he tends not to tell her about certain events, or if he does, he omits the gory details. For example, Mike repeatedly tried to make light of the fact that Lucy was hurting him.

Also, bluefox, just because Lucy tried to save Mike from drowning and stood up for him during "Confrontation" doesn't excuse her for her years of insulting and hitting Mike. The fact is that Lucy was generally not a very good friend to Mike, and a few incidents showing otherwise hardly makes up for the rest of it.

Choice diction aside, there is an acute probability that you are misinterpreting the extent to which Lucy would play a submissive role. Disregarding how fundamentally straight she is, it would be a bit out-of-character for her to wholly and completely relinquish control in any situation that directly pertained to herself - especially in sexual relations. While the trope of an obsessively controlling character possessing a desire to release themselves from the stresses and tensions of that control during sex is all fine and good, Lucy simply fails to fit that niche; she has control issues, but they are not the kind which drive her to involve herself in and manipulate everything around her, which are the kinds she would need to possess in order to parallel your theory.

Student-council president and ideal crusader Abbey, on the other hand, would fit that stereotype to such a magnitude that - if they ever took their relationship to that level - he would likely drive Daisy off with his overt sexual submissiveness; yet another reason why AbbeyxBus is best OTP.

I am already pretty bored with this chapter. The art is great and all, and I am aware of the fact that Taeshi changed her plot-writing to be more accurate for the eventual book, but pace of this story is deadly slow for me.
In my opinion this kind of suspense works when you have the whole chapter in your hands. But I bet it's just me. I just thought that "ten second to midnight" will end with something BIG.

Here's what the last page looks like:
Lucy sits in a shitty mattress, moth-eaten blanket coveting her lap as she stares with dead eyes into nothing. Augustus sits at the edge of the bed, smoking a cigarette and no one says anything. They know what they did.

Alternative ending: same picture but two bottom panels show Augustus breathing out, then saying "Get out."

Poor Paulo indeed. He's broken up with Jasmine (the right thing to do), and now he's waiting for Lucy, who will never come that night. You'll see her another day, Paulo... but I don't think she'll feel like entering into a relationship for a while. She pined over Mike for so long, it's going to take her some time to fully get over him. Therapy could help her; it's helping Abbey, after all.

Wonder if Paulo will wait as long as is necessary for Lucy to feel comfortable dating again? If he cares for her, that's what he'll have to do.

Ace has a wonderful imagination.
