Child Cancer Awareness: The Truth 365

A friend of mine has personal family affected by this issue. Child cancer is a serious issue. I'm no doctor or researcher, so the best I can do is watch this documentary, share it, and hope everyone else watches too.
For interested artists, my friend has a challenge for you to feature one of your characters with a golden ribbon to support the issue:
Child Cancer Awareness PLEASE READ! by *bree-tree on deviantART

... You could donate money? Work for them for free?
  • #3

let's raise awareness instead of actually doing anything worthwhile to actually help anyone! draw your OC with a gold ribbon! reblog this post if you support gay marriage! change your profile pic to a cartoon character if you're against child abuse!
  • #4

Sure lets make everyone feel bad for not donating their money or free time to help a bunch of kids with caner! Look not to be a downer on this or anything arkaian, but not a lot of people care. If you care about it so much go work for free, donate money, or help your friends family member. Dont just shove it in our face and yell DO SOMETHING!

Uh huh uh huh.

Isn't there some sort of public social system that's supposed to step in and help?

Are you of all people allowed to say this
  • #7

Really, people?
I'm a full time student with a daily five hour commute and hardly any money, this literally -is- the best I can manage. Funny, I doubt a single one of you took the time to even watch this. Did you press the play button? Do you do anything? Kaxbe, your profile picture IS a cartoon character, where is your room to talk? Sofa King, then why don't they? Where is all the government money that's supposed to go to this? There's plenty of it, but not enough- look at our military budget.
You talk about me not taking action- I'm a film student. When I'm out of school, I'll have the capability to make documentaries like this to spread awareness for causes- and when I do, not if, when, I would love for people like me to post it everywhere so it can get awareness. Where do you think the people that take action come from? If one person acts but does not promote his cause, he has no hope of getting more people to act.
Think before you type.

Hold on, let me dial up the Give A Fuck Foundation so I can send them a quarter because I was so moved by the message that childhood cancer is bad.

#18 - Awareness
  • #10

The thing here is that people aren't getting mad about you posting an awareness thing, its just there doesn't really need to BE any awareness raised about cancer, we KNOW that is happens to everyone and it's a sad and difficult time for families who have to deal with it, so to waste money on raising awareness is where this gets pointless.

Money needs to be invested in research, helping the families affected by cancer pay medical bills and stuff like that. And yes being a college student does make it harder to donate money to these causes but time is free, even when I took 18 hours this semester I still went and donated my time to several different organizations. Hell, I helped run a relay for life booth a couple of years ago and almost did 20 hours or that alone.

I'm really not trying to make myself look like a saint here, I'm just saying there is more you can do than raise awareness for a disease that people do not need to be told exists. If it really bothers you that much, find organizations you can get involved in and get your friends and stuff to help out, everyone has to work together to make a difference out there and find a cure for cancer.

Oh, I can make a difference by posting links to child cancer on facebook, right? I'm too lazy to donate.

I thought Americas big problem at the moment was because they have no money and are swimming in debt.

Even if you are broke, there are still many ways to help. You could join up with a Sparrow club or Habitat for Humanity on the weekends, You could set up an artistic fundraiser with your friend where he offers super cheep drawings of people's characters wearing the gold ribbons, then gives the profit to chairity. there are any number of things to do.

Blame conservatives in the US for gutting the Universal Declaration of Human Rights article 25 like a fish

"fiscal conservatives don't believe that tax dollars should be used to fund universal health care. They believe this responsibility should fall on the private sector, and if the private sector isn't able to comprehensively meet needs, calling on the government to pick up the slack simply isn't an option. They see health care as something that good people can grant to those who don't have it, but they don't see it as something to which every human being is entitled."

So if you wanna fight for something, then fight for universal health-care funded by tax money and administered by a public system.

Did you seriously expect us to not know about the most well-known f**king disease of our time?
  • #19

God you guys just don't fucking get it. The video was obviously bathed in the blood of a djinn before being uploaded, and if it reaches 1,000,000 views the wishes of those who uploaded it will come true and all those with cancer will be cured.

Think before you type guys.

Also I am helping by pinning my unicorn vein on my character in a ribbon shape. My character's name is Zusy.

Yeah, I mean, look at what happened to Batman and Bane. Throat cancer is a terrible thing.
  • #21

I, for one, am not convinced of childhood cancer's badness. All of those kids could grow up to be Hitler. Little Hitlers running around. Everywhere. Because you cured their cancer.

Shame on you.

what you call cancer, i call failed attempts to copy Wolverine's regenerative powers

Working for free sucks, and often just ends up with other people getting the money you should have made, instead of it going for your desired cause. Best way to help? Study biochemistry instead of cinema. Or Genetics or - god forbid - Medicine! And dedicate your life to research. Don't do it for free, though, make sure you get paid. But then you're actually achieving something. Cinema ain't gonna cure cancer any tie soon.

(Here's another thing, Cancer isn't one disease, it's a large a very variable group of diseases. Finding one cure for cancer is as unlikely as finding one cure for viruses or one cure for general organ failures.)

MIT has essentially already done that, they just aren't done testing it yet.

Yeah it's not 100% of all viruses, but it's a cure for the common cold!

what context do you mean this in? as in they should not work their main occupation for free, or that they should not do charitable works for free?

I disagree. if his passion is cinema, I'd argue that that's what he should do. he can still do things to help Charitable causes, such as making donations or making pledges, or even going to read to kids in the hospital or something, as long as it amounts to doing more than pressing a "share" button on a computer.

Well sure, there's more ways to help, but they're not the BEST ways. If someone's really serious about it, ready to dedicate their lives, then cinema is really not the way to go.

As for the other thing, it's rather too big a topic for this thread. Ask again some other time.
  • #29

This main point of this thread was pretty spam, really. Spam for a noble cause, sure, but spam none the less. Besides, since this is Arkaian's only thread, (Which is also where he made his only post) it's pretty safe to assume that the guy's just here to promote this stuff. Didn't this happen with some religious people a while back as well?
