BCB has quite a few fans. So many fans, one might think that there probably are people who can make sounds that fit the definition of music. That's probably why you're reading this. Well, I had a thought recently that's something along the lines of "hey, I bet if everybody who plays an instrument brings theirs to BCBCon, we could totally turn a sizable chunk of time into a concert that we shall forever remember as a good time."
Now, whether or not that thought complies with the laws of the universe does not matter. What matters is it has lead to me asking these two questions in a topic dedicated to finding the answers: Who among us is musically talented; and who among us would be interested in giving others the chance to hear them play music?

My own answers to those questions are as follows:
Now, those of you who've been in a voice chat with me know I like to play a bit of video game music on my guitar, but you can't know just from hearing it that I have a Squier Strat (named Sam) hooked up to a ZOOM G1u Guitar Effects & USB Audio Interface Pedal, which leads to both a Fender G-DEC Junior and a Windows 7 computer with an Ableton Live 7 trial, soon to be replaced with Live Lite 7 ZOOM edition.
I also have an acoustic, a JAY-JR/TR named Alex. Alex is plenty scratched, with part of the body cracked open from a fall, but the sound made can still be picked up by my Rock Band hand-held microphone, which I have recently made a stand for.

So, what about you? (Remember to specify in your post what you play (instruments AND styles), how well you play it, what you use for audio equipment and if you'd perhaps be interested in playing for/with others.)

Mediocre at piano and beatboxing and harmonica and guitar
okay at singing and saxophone

I don't have any fancy recording equipment. Just my lame-o lappy mic.
  • #3

:/ awesome at piano, drums, keys, trombone(XD), okay at singing, and trying to teach myself guitar :O

I do believe I said "whether or not this thought complies with the lows of the universe does not matter." By that I meant disregard the bit about BCBCon. Also, I put in "Wind - Other" for a reason.

I played violin for like 8 years, but I was never fantastic at it. Especially solo stuff. I haven't played since I got out of high school, and I don't even have a violin of my own. I like to sing sometimes when I'm bored or I feel like it.
  • #7

I play guitar and piano okay. But, I've always wanted to do a live performance...

Btw, what's BCBcon? I'm a tad out of the loop XD

I think you'll find a certain stickied topic in this subforum focused on it, Mikaro.
  • #9

I play tuba, Trumpet, Piano, Drums, Xylophone,
  • #10

YES!

Vocals, Keyboard (Usually Piano, but I can work with other things, like marimbas and such), and Ukulele.

Can record well and with good clarity. I can even do noise removal and other effects if necessary.

I've also got some experience working with drummachines. Curretly I'm experimenting with d-lusion drumstation.

Well, it is still lacking. You should have put "Brass" as one category, then "Flutes", and a "Woodwind". Strings also excludes a lot of instruments, since "Strings - Other" groups together the violin with the mandolin and the ukulele with the double bass. I realise that the split would be difficult to upkeep, but still. ^_^
  • #12

Yes, yes, ILB, but answering the poll is only one stage of interaction with the topic. By replying to the topic, one can specify the sort of instrument one plays. It is, in fact, recommended that one does so. I only included the categories I did because I couldn't think of any other, and I do not wish to alter the poll. It has already been answered by 10 members of the forum, and I wish for all 'votes' to be cast under the same conditions.
If anybody opposes that concept, I kindly ask that they remember I asked

which should imply that I made this topic with the intention of finding those who would be suited to playing with a few others, and if someone DOES raise a fuss over their instrument not getting recognized and put into a list that was written up over the course of some thirty seconds, lord knows how they'd act in a 'band room' environment. Plus, Wikipedia's list of musical instruments categorizes them in this fashion; I just made what I thought would be the more common instruments categories of their own.

i play bass like a mofo cause im an arrogant musician, I do gigs and wear plaid shirts cause they come with a catch phrase BAM. also i sing but only stuff really high like stayin' alive or normal like in bloom, remedy (black crowes).
  • #14

Btw, what would the set list be composed of? Covers? Original songs?
  • #15

BCB-themed Parodies 8-D

Covers are a possibility. Some instrumentals would be nice.

Ah, I see. Well, I still think the list is a bit unprofessional, and though it is suited for a rock/pop band format, it does not have too much merits otherwise. Of course, since it is a band we are talking about, this means the list is perfect, so this is not really a viable or valid complaint. ^_^
  • #17

i can play guitar/ bass/ normal drums/ bongos/ sing/ piano/ ukulele and anything else
  • #18

I can play pretty much any hand percussion instrument. I can play pretty much any drum, except the set, I haven't had enough practice on one to get good. I can play the blues harmonica, and I can beatbox. I can also do both at once.

Hopefully in the future I'm going to learn how to make some electronica, and how to play the guitar.

I should also note that since I'm a percussionist 'mostly' and since my school didn't give two shits about teaching this to percussionist, I can't read notes. The only sheet music I can read is for percussion.

I play drums, trumbone and i am mediocre at singing
  • #20

I've been in band/sung in a choir for about seven years now. I sing, play piano, violin, viola, saxophone, guitar, clarinet, and bass clarinet. Unfortunately I doubt I'd be able to go to the con. :(
  • #21

I'm a violinist but I hate all of you.
  • #22

I like to think I sing pretty well, but to be fair I only use it for dramatic proposes, like acting. I have a A2020 Audio Techniqua USB Microphone with a spider cradle and pop protector, which is really good when it comes to sound quality. I also do a bit of sound work, some theatrical but mainly technical, so if you need someone to "mix" all of your "fat beats" I can lend a hand.

I can sing, play piano, and play guitar, with the latter being hardly any as I just started, but I've been learning piano for 10 years, and I sing as a hobby.
I can't perform live, due to the fact that BCBcon would likely be held in the US, thus ruling out any possibility of my going (I live in south eastern Australia) But I can play over a recording, My mic is pretty bad, but I have a midi setup for my keyboard (I like my piano better though :P)

well, I play the piano fairly well, I can sing (not so well...), and I can also play differents wind instruments (such as flutes, ocarinas, etc).

Also I played the violin many years ago :D. Dont ask me to play it now,

I have played many different styles, but if I have to focus, I would say Rock & roll and Classical music (DONT ASK ME TO PLAY "Para elisa"! >:O ).

Yes, I can play to a live audience withouth problem. And for the recording... well you saw at my song that my recording devices suck :S
  • #25

I probably should make it clear that by 'playing live' I mean over some sort of internet voice chat, not at BCBcon.
  • #26

I can play the ocarina and sing. But I can't record anything. I'm going to be in a concert on Jan. 6th though.
  • #27

I can sing and play a little keyboard, I've done conserts for school in the past as well, although that was mainly Tech stuff.
  • #28

While it is what I suspected, doing live over internet voice chat will require tedious work to sync everything up.
  • #29

I sing gud, no really i do
  • #30

"Sync everything up"? You think that anyone would be crazy enough to get more than one person playing at a time?

EDIT: I added a question to the poll. If you don't intend on attending BCBcon, feel free to not answer.

  • #31

Yeah, if it were like a jam session.
  • #32

I'm a drummer. Probably the worst drummer here. Apparently I'm good but meh.

EDIT: I'm a rock drummer by the way. A very, very, energetic rock drummer.

I played the piano for about five years until my piano teacher was fired and now I play guitar. I still record music using a keyboard and Garageband, though, as well as playing piano/guitar by themselves. I would sing, but I'm not exactly a great singer. So yeah. If you want I can give you a link to my awful instrumental songs.
  • #34

Should we start posting samples of our shit on here?
  • #35

I can play piano. Its alright i guess? Im not sure how to rate myself XD No singing. Ocassionaly pick up a guitar but I'm horrible. I don't even tune it most of the time XD

Hmm always wanted to play a violin though. Actually a lot of instruments. Including the trumpet and sax. :D
  • #36

I play the drums and lots of small percussion. And I'm good at it. Where a drum kit is inconvenient, I have a cajon (it's a 30x30x50cm box that works as a bass/snare drum and allows heavenly grooves). I dun no nothin bout no BCBcon, but that might genuinely be interesting.

I play any kind of pop/rock/metal. Not too trained at jazz.

I once met some musicians from Madagascar, who had a fine policy on that. Every second you spend tuning the guitar is seconds you could have used playing it. So they sit down and play perfectly rather than making their instruments sound perfect. ^_^
  • #38

But if it's not in tune, no matter how well you do it, it'll still sound like dying cats.

No, not at all. Besides, they would tune their guitars if it got really bad, but these days it seems we have to have the exact frequency to be accepted. That is a bit silly. ^_^
  • #40

Well, yes, I am slightly lax in that respect, but I tune my guitar ukulele more than "whenever it sounds awful." My ears are very sensitive to dissonant sounds, even when off by the slightest degree. Other people might not have a problem.
  • #41

I play guitar, piano, and cello, sing, song-write, and can get away with the bass guitar, drums, violin, accordion. I like music. 8-)
  • #42

and anime NeRD
  • #43

yeah i can proficiently play guitar, Pvc Pipes, and ear play the piano pretty well, I also have recording equipment and i can write simple songs.

my recording equipment isn't the best ever but it's better quality than the usual pc mic. plus i have audio editing software to sync things up.
  • #44

Eb flat cornet and pretty much any other treble clef brass instrument....not that any of those are real crowd pleasers beyond the scope of marching or concert band settings.
  • #45

I'm learning drums and bass. Other than that I have been sining my whole life. I'm totally down.
  • #46

All kinds of percussion. Personal favorite is good solo four-mallet marimba piece
  • #47

Saxaphone, decent on piano, can play guitar if absolutely necessary. I am also proficient on theramin and jaw harp 8-)

Jaw harp, for those who don't know it:

This isn't me, but it's a good demonstration.

Theramin:

  • #48

haha, that's pretty good sammy. I like that bluegrass feel the jaw harps give.
  • #49

I can play the jaw harp too, but I've never met anyone who can play a theramin.
