Lucy's father is not actually a famous race car driver. Lucy's mother just pick a famous athlete and told Lucy and Jordon that he was their father. When Mike fell from the bridge in Search and Rescue, he never actually lived. His spirit had passed on, but his body was still in good condition. An evil demon who studied Mike from day 1 took control of the body. This is why Mikes behavior began to change soon after. The readers of bcb could also feel a change in Mike, and began hating him a few chapters later.
Need evidence? During the confrontation chapter, this demon briefly possessed Mike when Lucy was almost raped by Alejandro. This is why Mike was able to pull off the attacks that he used.

The real change from "good mike" to "bad mike" slowly started happening after the confrontation arc. After getting a taste for alcohol, he's secretly been having more and more of it every day. He's become a dick afterwards just because he has a constant hangover, and can't wait to have the next drink. Sandy is really just a convenient excuse he uses to explain all his "alone time".
