SaBasse's Art

How much would a commission cost? About 800 vertical pixels, colored and inked.

I kind of want something commemorated. If I really like it, there's another picture I'd ask to do as well, but that one would take more time and effort on your part and I probably wouldn't ask about that until April or so.

Carcacocacola there is a link to her DA which has commission info. Last I checked they are closed due to filling up but read first brah.

I didn't notice the link, sorry.

Hello again~ I've been busy with finals in school, so outside art slowed down a bit. Not only that, but my apartment was broken into over the weekend and now we're moving next week, ahhhhh. :(

Here is a commission I did for Ace! I love the character--I thought she was adorable!

And this is Carcharocles' commission. I don't often do digital paint like this, so it was a great opportunity. Sorry to hear about your cat though. :(

And today is one of my good friend's birthday today, so I drew his character. I was in a pretty bad funk considering school finals and recent events, but I sorta just took a break today to draw...it helped though.

Just so you know, my mom and I both have the painting as our backgrounds. :)
And yet again, thanks a bunch.

Yeah I've read your journals and such, I'm kind of amazed you've been able to work on stuff still with all that going on.

Ah to be happier, thank you again for that commission, maybe when things slow down I can get it upgraded.

Have to admit I know how full of suck it can be to get robbed. Mine had a touch of awkward though as it turned out to be a friend of my brother's and even when he was caught he still ended up going to the same school as me. So at least you didn't have to go through a "Oh hey the kid who jacked my guitars has the same lunch period as me."

Burglars and hoodlums aside you have some of the most kickass art, just looking at one of your commissions feels like I'm looking at a manual on how to make great art.

Thanks for the compliment, ThatGuy. Yeah, it's been well over a month since the incident and I haven't heard from police ever since so sadly it looks like whoever did it got away. :\

I haven't been as active here. Hopefully I can turn that around. I've been living in a new apartment since my last post. Just a lot of stuff happening over the last month that I got a little overwhelmed but I like to think things are for the most part back to normal.

So here is some art, yay.

My friends on DA/tumblr did a "Waifu" month in March where they drew a favorite female character once a day. I wanted to join in so bad I thought I could at least starting April. Sadly, I lasted about a week, oops. And that was with sticking to a simple coloring style. Oh well, at least I got to do fan art.

Ocarina of Time, Link. The most nostalgic to me. :)

Lina Inverse from the Slayers. My all-time favorite heroine!

Hiei from Yu Yu Hakusho.

Sailor Moon! My first anime, haha. I'm sad to hear the anime reboot is delayed. :(

Anywho, those were just some of them. Right now I'm trying to finish up a few commissions so I can start even more, lol. I'm looking to make some money for a trip to Animegacon in Las Vegas this summer, where my friend has invited me to share a table with her in the Artist Alley!

I'm aiming to do quick commissions between the price range of $5 - $10, so just a heads up. I'll definitely post here when I start those.

Hiei is my favorite Yu Yu Hakusho charter. And welcome back Sabasse.

I still think you did an amazing job on Lina. You managed to capture both her badassery and her mischievousness in one expression/pose. I just pray to Chaos that's not the Giga Slave she's about to shoot at the screen.

I still think the Sailor Moon really turned out well and your style builds upon the original very well! (Trust me, I've seen far too much bad Sailor Moon fanart... these are the perils of staying Facebook friends with certain people from high school)

(Also did you say pray to Chaos Carcha? What are ya, some kind of heretic?)

Holy hell inna hand basket batman! Sailor Moon! You just jumped 90 points up the awesomemeter.

UGHGHGGHGHHGHGHGHHGHGH

why do artists undercharge themselves so badly?

You seriously deserve way much more than that for a coloured bust ;__;
  • #67

I agreed, your art quality price should be higher, real nice style. But that's all up to you.

Sure I'll go for one of those charms
  • #69

Really? ;_; Hearing that from multiple people really boosts my confidence...

One reason I'm doing the cheap commissions is for fast cash though, to get ready for an Artist Alley with a friend in Vegas next month. So the cheaper prices are temp. for the most part.
  • #70

That's good to hear because your art is worth a lot more than $10. Which is why I made sure to send you a little something for your troubles. As for the commission: Is it possible for you to make an Augustus portrait and upload it to the Candybooru? You're an amazing artist and I want to see more of your artwork :).
  • #71

Oh hells yeah I'll draw Augustus. ;)

I responded to your e-mail, SpaceMouse. :) I've still got many slots open on the charms. I forgot to mention that it'll probably be late June/early July before I send them out! I should have the materials needed to create them soon, and I'm hoping to have all 10 finished so I can make just 1 trip to the Post Office!

Went through the thread, and I must say that your human designs are really charming and beautiful to look at. Pretty nice considering how hard of a time some other people have with them. I absolutely love the red-lined sketches on the first page. Pretty simple yet effective proportions, and the implied folds are readable.

Only thing I can point out is that once you get to inking the thing, you oughta watch out for areas that look flat. It's most noticeable on the top half/back of the hair, where you sometimes lose the form of the hair you had on the forehead area. You've also got a bit of a "flat anime" eye look. It easily works on animal characters since they're simple enough. But the look is more noticeable on humans when you start emphasizing things like form of the cheek bone since the simplicity of the eyes and 3D-ish cheeks conflict a bit. Check out Drkav's sketches on DA for nice examples on how he handles cartoony eyes.

Despite all that, I'm just being nitpicky. There's a lot of things I like about your style, and I look forward to more of them! :)
