It's totally a genderbender of Mike×Lucy. Luke has the habit to take advantage of Michelle when she's asleep (similar to how Lucy does to Mike). This scene represents the consequences.

Seems as if the play is already underway, and these are two of the other actors. This is a play Sue wrote herself; I wonder what it's about? Mike and Lucy are playing the two leading roles; perhaps they're meant to be siblings in this play? Loving the hand-drawn backgrounds in this particular scene.

How long has it been since the roles were called for the play? I feel like we've been waiting for a year or something. (BCB and normal time, I'm curious and don't know either)

Meanwhile, not even three months have passed in comic time! "Casting Call" takes place in mid-October 2007, while we're now in the first week of January 2008.
In that regard, I can understand why Taeshi considered ending the comic with the chapter after this one. While we are getting close to the end of the major period of drama, the story keeps plodding along relatively slowly, and we still have to cover roughly 17 months between now and the end of junior year. That's a lot of time to keep working on the same comic, without having the freedom to go ahead and explore new stories and new ideas. (Recall that Taeshi regards BCB as practice for future stories.)

She'll do another comic! She has a couple of different ideas for that, but they won't feature anthropomorphic animals. One particular idea she has kicking around involves a serious ten-chapter story centering on a group of (human) seniors and the events of an after-prom party.

The only child, yes, however her mom also has two blue eyes! Fortunately, Lucy's mom isn't affected by deafness the way Lucy is. (White cats with blue eyes have a tendency towards being deaf.)

I really feel for Sue here, I too know the horrors of being backstage during plays, it's nerve wracking even when you aren't the writer/director of the thing.

I guess Sue is somewhat of a perfectionist, and never quite satisfied, especially as director of the play. Given that she's now throttling McCain, perhaps she should consider some stress-management classes. Poor McCain, suffering under Sue's abuse, although doubtless he's used to it by now, just as Mike was with Lucy. 
I do wonder if Lucy will show up for the play. A role in a play is a commitment, however Lucy may have decided that taking care of herself is more important at this time. For that matter, did she show up at school today?
It still seems odd to me to have a play debut right when school starts again, since you have to trust that the actors won't lose their touch (or their lines) over the holidays. Perhaps that contributes to Sue's nervousness. Although if for some reason this is actually just a rehearsal... then well played.

The way sue is acting ma kes it seem te.like this is the real deal. But sue can be like that some times wen it comes to school stuff. I wonder if lucy is at therapy and will just tell them she was running late.

It really looks like Mike got mildly aroused by the nipple stimuli Sue provided. Also, I think Sue on the final frame is trying to have that sand cleaned out.
I've also kinda wondered how a fight between these two would be like in a relationship. I imagine just like on this page, Sue would be all dominant, which is not to be confused with insecure control desire.
