Curtain Call

Perhaps he doesn't need one. After all, in the BCB world, characters don't always wear clothes.

This does seem to be a rehearsal. And Sue seems to be stressed out, obsessing over every last detail. This is just for the play though; normally she and Mike get along quite well.

Well then it's no wonder that Sue is freaking out at him, in my school productions we had to be in costume an hour before show time.

I think she'll freak out either way because back when the roles were being cast Mike was considered an awful actor and I don't think he got too much better.
  • #60

Something tells me this play is just some elaborate plot perptrated by Sue (or was it that lavender coloured cat that I forget the name of) to get Mike and Lucy back on good speaking terms.

Pretty sure, considering that Lucy didn't want to do it and Mike was a bad actor Sue forced them both to be in it thinking it would get them back together, when really it'll probably bring the play crashing down around her ears.

I would sincerely beg to differ with Sue on the subject of Paulo's affiliation with the 'drama club', especially considering the inevitable fallout of what he's about to do.

[uses JEDI FORESIGHT] I detect large drama bombshell in the near future. As if, the shippers of Paulo and Lucy the world over (myself included) will all cry out in greif at once and then...feel the icy embrace of the water underneith a sunk ship.
  • #74

I've learned to accept the story with Zen. I hope for nothing, ship no one (no matter how much I want to) and let Taeshi do as she will and trust she won't guide me down a story I won't like. And so far, I've been right. She seems to be pretty artful at dodging cliches, making things more realistic and deconstructing staples of romance or comedy.

What I mean is, if Paulo and Lucy get together (which they very well might though not likely under the circumstances we'd expect), the part of me that considers so many of you my friends will be half elated through your elation over LucyxPaulo and half distraught over the distress you feel over LucyxMike. But only insofar as I feel bad that you feel bad. I'll enjoy whatever happens next regardless
  • #75

I prefer avoiding getting too attached to any specific couple. Instead I'm trying to stay neutral on the possibilities of who might end up with who/nobody.

My personal experience with high school is that nobody ends up with nobody. Those who still ends up with someone is soon doomed to fall apart anyway. At least one managed to form a family. Unfortunately the mother is an emotionally manipulative woman who's raising a new generation of narcissists.

Over to what Paulo is doing: I think he could wait with his confession till after the play. Albeit, I can't complain, because seeing how his interaction with Lucy will turn out is intriguing.
  • #76

Perhaps Paulo's confession will allow Lucy to get better!

How will lucy react? She is probably thinking of how to deal with mike and the kiss scene. Then paulo comes in and starts his courtship of her which she is completely not expecting. This is a very touchy moment. Or lucy could throw him out because he walked in on her while she was naked.
  • #78

He couldn't have possibly picked any worse moment for this... typical bcb scenario

Oh great, that faggot.

Also, Sue is not doing a very good job to let someone like that back there before the show. She's smart enough to know that wont end well.

Not to mention it completely ruins the realism of the play to let Paulo speak to Lucy when she is in costume (Cause come on guys, we know she's gonna be in that pretty dress and Paulo is gonna completely loose the ability to speak.)
  • #81

There is also the fact that Jess is presumably backstage as well, being a co-director and whatnot; even if Paulo would fail to entirely botch what he is about to do, somehow it seems relatively unlikely that Jess would simply stand by and allow him to beat her to pouring unsubstantiated quantities of adolescent angst and emotion over an already more-troubled-than-usual Lucy.

I think it's kinda nice to see Paulo and Sue not really fighting. Paulo's not calling her a bitch or anything, or acting hostile / his usual self, so Sue knows there's something up. She was just pretty angry at Mike, so it's good to see she and Paulo being polite at each other.

It's a nice page! I like it

Agreed! Though I'm not sure if I learned this from you indirectly or if I came to this conclusion by myself. Perhaps both. Oh wait, I remember why now, I wanted to be socialy acceptable here so I believed this way of looking at it is the best way.

Sue must have a soft spot for paulo she broke macains neck and twisted mikes nipples and yet paulo who should not even be there just gets a shooooo.

I agree that Paulo could certainly have picked a better time to approach Lucy. However, it's true he hasn't seen her in a couple of weeks, and he's barely even talked to her on the phone. Now that he and Jasmine have broken up, he wants to jump on the opportunity to express his feelings to Lucy without further delay. I think we can all see Lucy's rejection of Paulo coming a mile away though, since she clearly needs time to regain some mental and emotional stability first, and I doubt she wants to become as dependent on him as she was on Mike.

As I believe I've said before, dating in high school is really more about developing interpersonal skills and finding out the types of people you like rather than finding actual true love. The latter doesn't usually happen until later on, when you're more emotionally mature.

I don't believe there is a kiss scene in the play. Sue's intention with casting Mike and Lucy for the lead roles wasn't to get them together romantically, but just to talk and be friends again.

What we do know is that Lucy will be singing in the play, and quite possibly wearing that dress as well. (Speaking of which, I wonder what the chances are of Paulo finding Jessica helping Lucy with her costume? :smirk: )

Fun fact: The school play was originally slotted to occur at the end of sophomore year (i.e. in June instead of January).

I think I got the ideal of the kiss scene from a picture in the candyboouru that was probably a edit now that I think about it.Im sure jess would love to help lucy out of into her dress but lucy is a big girl and she can do it her self.
  • #88

Lucy could possibly be dressed up for the act. Albeit, if Paulo is going to show up, Lucy should preferably be naked for the sake of not having the situation too awkward.

Paulo is without a doubt eager to meet Lucy, although, his yearning could put his chance with her at stake.

On the behalf of Lucy, I'm pretty confident in she's going to reject Paulo. I think she has learned from her mistakes and is not going to risk having herself becoming subconsciously dependent on Paulo again. After all, she was basically using him to feel better about herself when she would without a hitch have traded him away for Mike upon the moment he'd become available. That's why she didn't want to make things complicated. But yet she had, and things got even more complicated in "Back and Forth" with that hallway stunt. In conclusion, I think that series of events alone is a quite a lesson for Lucy to take learning from, so she'll probably be careful to not have herself winding up as a hypocrite again.

This is the worst possible time to confess to someone. In the middle of a play, really Paulo? (Stressful enough already!)

I don't know what he expects Lucy to do with his confession, but he knows something is wrong with her, and that someone did something to upset her. Maybe not the best time to tell someone you love them, especially when last time you checked, they still loved someone else. This is getting good!

Yes, Paulo, why did you pick this particular moment? I know you're impatient to tell Lucy you love her, but could you not have waited one more day? Or at least until after the play was over? For that matter, why didn't you talk to her in class earlier today (I'm presuming it's a school day)? You and Lucy share at least three classes plus lunch together.

In any case, better make it quick, Paulo. And even if you do suddenly happen to decide that now isn't exactly the greatest time for a serious conversation, don't back out of it altogether. Pick a better moment in the next couple days or so.
  • #95

I hope that he's gobsmacked by the dress Lucy's in and misses the opportunity.

Paulo looks all tough outside the door as he puffs up his manly chest then wen he pops his head in he looks like a frightened little boy. The suspense is killing me I cant wait to see if lucy will be in her dress looking all beautiful for the play or staring at the wall with tears in her eye's for having to confront Mike. She better not be crying!!

(I think Paulo hints to it, and it's hinted more later, but Lucy has been skipping. Meaning he hasn't seen her for like practically a month, so yeah he thinks it's now or never)
