Go vote for BCB!

Taeshi since Ava's Demon lost, your chances of winning increased greatly. What are your thoughts about winning assuming that nobody starts any arguments afterwards? Your fans are willing to make Bittersweet Candy Bowl take first place if you let them. So far, fans in the comment sections have not started any major wars and it has been peaceful. Also, I agree with the statement below... epesially the second half(minus that one swear D: ).

"While the erasure of such a large deficit (and it’s not the first time this competition, hello Commander Kitty) leaves kind of a bad taste in my mouth, let’s just please remember to not blame the creators of these comics for this happening. It is a natural thought to be more inclined to donate as a fan if your favorite webcomic is losing, and donating a larger amount if your favorite webcomic is down by a significant margin. It can take the action of just one person to do something dramatic like this, and it shouldn’t reflect on the author of the work.

I don’t know anything about S&W’s creator, but I know that Taeshi is a humble, wonderful person who puts a metric fuckton of effort into her work and has been getting better and better at her art and storycraft for years and years now. S&W’s creator I’m sure has put a lot of similar effort into hers. Don’t let those things be maligned because of a silly contest with silly donation rules." K-Ten

I wouldn't be so sure about the chances of BCB winning, given the monetary contribution made by fans of Sandra and Woo in the previous round. But even a second-place finish is nothing to be ashamed of. :)
  • #52

If we are able to get a good enough lead with the regular votes then all we will have to do is match Sandra and Woo's monetary contribution for this round. If my plan works as well as it has been working so far, then we only have to worry about being close enough in regular votes. Sandra and Woo's fans are not the only ones that are donating to charity. Like I mentioned to taeshi earlier, her fans are willing to give her a win if she lets them. ;)

You have a plan? You should perhaps tell the rest of us what it is. :D

Oh yeah, someone should probably put up the link for the final round: 2013 Mix March Madness Webcomics Tournament Finals

I am conflicted because i would have been more than happy losing against redtail's dream and ava's demon

but in this case umm

i really want to win

is that selfish

you guys got my blessings either way i'll always hate h8ers
  • #55

Your not selfish. Give some credit to your fans.
  • #56

Taeshi if it is selfish to want to win every once in a while then call me selfish as well. I also don't think it is selfish to want your fans to show how loyal they are. If you want to win then all I can say is: Mission Accepted. 8-D
  • #57

If we aren't doing it for BCB's sake, doing it for Ava's Demon works fine for me.

Get your scissors ready. Cuttin' down those nets.
  • #58

Purin this is not about revenge, it is about proving to Taeshi just how much we love her comic and that we all think she is awesome. She always works hard on the artwork and we will show her our gratitude. Also, we get to help out a charity as well 8-).

Uhh, that's twenty votes.

Well, looks like we are tied... assuming the other side didn't buy 200 votes as well :smirk:.

While I hate to discourage donations to a charity, I don't think it would reflect very well on us if we were to win because of donations. I am hoping that won't happen.

Not even if I had a group of 11 people that each pitched in because they wanted to show support to their favorite comic? We still have a few more friends that are going to help as well... is that really a bad thing?

Is that the plan? If it's for charity that's cool but being able to buy votes is not fare. It should be the actual fans vote not the money that decides which one wins.
  • #67

No, it's fair by the rules of the contest. Whoever wins wins. I just don't want BCB to be perceived as a comic that bought its way to the top.

I already regret that we won one round that way - and no matter how slim that margin was and no matter the disparity of how that contest was promoted, it's something people have brought up.
  • #68

bluefox the original plan was just to get as many of my friends and classmates that I KNOW are into BCB and have them vote as well. 8 of them heard my plan and responded "Holy shit, why didn't you say something sooner? Lets go vote right now." (That was because they didn't even hear about this tournament). Then the next day after I told them I bought $20 worth of votes, we started talking and decided that we should start saving up some money to donate and show our support for Bittersweet Candy Bowl and to Veronica and Oliver... if we managed to make it to the final round we would donate over $300 because it was going to charity anyways :D.

That was our plan A, but now our plan B is kind of what Paulo did for Daisy back in Feline Filibuster... except in a nicer way that just involves finding more fans of BCB and asking them to vote. We are only asking people if they are fans of Bittersweet Candy Bowl and introducing others to it... we are NOT forcing anybody to vote against their will. So it is not exactly what Paulo did but I think it is close enough. This plan is not foolproof... people could ignore us, they could say they are going to vote and not do it, or it would just take a big donation from the Sandra and Woo fans to make this plan be null and void. So I was hoping on going through with plan A since plan B could be a big failure :/.

I have a plan C as well, but it is a secret and a last resort... I wonder how many people are going to look at me like I am crazy?

Also, what started off as 8 friends working on a goal soon became 30+ that were spreading a message... and that was all in a day. 8-D

Supertails you are absolutely amazing and I really gotta reward you guys with something. Is there a shared favourite character or a favourite couple? Because I would really like to do something for you guys!
  • #70

I think everyone will agree that Lucy is the favorite character. Although Jasmine seems to be the one that needs cheering up at the moment. Also, we all know that you are the amazing one :).

I dont think it will be seen that way. I mean comme on evreyone was doing it and it's part of the rules so theres no need to wine about it. But I still do think it's unfair but im not going to wine about it so let's stuff the ballot box illegally whith legal votes of money.

I think it's been established that a lot of the comics that made it farther had a lot of monetary votes so I wouldn't say it's cheating if we also happened to do the same.

The 2013 Mix March Madness Webcomics Tournament Winner Is... | ComicMix

Supertails, what did you do!?!? Plan C?

BCB is the champion. Run and tell that. Congrats Taeshi.
  • #74

Holy Crap! Way to pull a comeback BCB. The end justify the means if you know what I'm saying.
  • #75

How to tell you this... Taeshi you are... AWESOME and you full earned this win. If you meet this guys who spend so much money tell him/them my regards.
  • #76

I've just read on Sandra and Woo that they lost in the ComicMix tournament. But... that means you won! Bittersweet Candybowl won the tournament! Incredible! The fans are incredible! I love that enthusiasm! (I admit I never vote because I didn't understand the site, sorry. Is it still okay if I call myself a fan?)
Congratulations, dedicated fans! Congratulations, Bittersweet Candybowl! There MUST be an AskRosevilleHigh strip about this! And finally, congratulations Taeshi! I hope you will like getting first place despite that you said earlier you wouldn't want to. I hope this will boost your self-esteem, you deserved it. I have my stories, which I'm very dedicated to and I can only hardly imagine how you feel right now, but I know I would feel great in your place. I really hope you do!
(A diary strip about you discovering the results would also be great!)

Wow, almost posted the above in the comment section from last page, then remembered the forum (but not the password, haha). I'm not 100% sure how the voting or buy-votes system works, but SuitCase, from the looks of it BCB won anyway? Also, over 1000 $ for charity, wohoo!
(But now I remembered the forum I didn't happen to be the first to comment, haha)

All I could think of was: We'll show them "the REAL SUPER POWER of TEAM WORK!" Looks like we did 8-D. Oh by the way the quote was a Sonic Heroes reference for those that didn't know. I'm glad that the charity received so much money :). Hopefully Taeshi is smiling now... I know Sue is. "Go Vegan!" XD.

@Purin: Yeah I got carried away and went with plan C. I'm definitely pleased with the result though :D.

Actually if my calculation are correct, BCB won on the votes also.
BCB: $648 at $.50 per vote equals 1296 bought votes
S&W: $105.50 at $.50 per vote equals 211 bought votes

BCB: 2238(total) - 1296(bought) = 942(non bought)
S&W: 1018(total) - 211(bought) = 807(non bought)

BCB only needed $68 to S&W's $105.50 to win the total. Everything above that, $580, was pure charity.

I don't think the contest was meant to class the comic as better than another one.

However, it show that the BCB community is supportive and dedicated, and we carried BCB to victory.
  • #84

@bluefox: Plan C was A+B together. Basically to talk to as many as my friends as possible and get them to vote. It wasn't too hard considering I already talked to most of them about BCB anyways. Classmates, Co-workers, and Family members as well. My classmates who were already fond of BCB after I told them to read my story(The Reign of Lucia), decided to hold a meeting to collect some money to show our support. With a class of 30 students the amount added up :D.

We went to school on a day we didn't even have to go to school just to talk about Bittersweet Candy Bowl and hold a meeting to show our dedication to the comic and the artist, Veronica Vera. We even talked about our admiration for Oliver Bareham. Before anyone calls us crazy, I would like to take this moment and say: We are not crazy just dedicated. :x

Malice I did not start a cult. They could all decide to leave our little group whenever they please. I will still hang out with my friends and anyone else about something we all have in common, we have read and loved BCB. Also, we wear casual clothing not robes or hoodies... and i'm not going to force them to do anything against their will or brainwash them into doing anything so not a cult. Well unless the definition of a cult has been changed... if that's the case then uh-oh D:.

Okay okay. I will disband my group the first chance I get. I didn't realize organizing a group of people to show support for a comic(and the ones that work so hard on it) would be viewed as a bad thing. Sorry for my ignorance :(.

Edit: Jerk thanks for clearing that up before I actually had the meeting. Not sure how the other would have acted to my sudden decision. I can't believe I accidentally quoted somebody I don't even know. I feel silly now 8-D.

Nice breakdown there, except for the small fact that it was actually Sandra and Woo who had 942 votes to BCB's 807 before the paid votes were tallied. You can see that for yourself if you hover over the bars in the poll on this page. So perhaps a mistake was made in the tally, and the final results should actually be 2103 to 1153 in favour of BCB? Either way, BCB still wins handily, even if only through paid votes. Then again, I'm not sure there's really a good and fair way of doing an internet poll of this kind; each method has its drawbacks.

Anyway, congratulations to BCB for taking top spot in the 2013 edition of Mix March Madness, beating out 127 other comics (and 311 in the initial seeding round). And even more so, congratulations to all the BCB fans who rallied to support the comic, and donated a lot of money for charity as well. It is noteworthy that altogether, BCB raised twice as much money as the next leading comic (Ava's Demon). And probably a good chunk of the credit should go to Supertails and his BCB cult, who raised a total of $320 as well as contributing at least 35 votes to the final round.
  • #92

Congrats everybody! I am also a S&W reader, and it is pretty and cool, but I'd definitely choose BCB over S&W a thousand times if I had to! So if you ask me, the best one won, fair and square. But considering that this contest was mostly a chance for every participant to get some more visibility, and to raise a little something for charity, I guess in the end everybody won.
Kudos to whoever supported BCB with donations, if that wasn't a proof of love for Taeshi's work I don't know what is.
