Mike's favorite memory of Lucy is an affirmation of friendship, but in the recent "hate speech" he claims they've never been friends. Is he knowingly lying or just conveniently forgetful? (If this is spoilers, sorry, but if not...) | Formspring

A: sigh
I don't even understand how I have to explain this
here's an example from my own experience
i had a friend who i thought was my best friend, we are not talking anymore and I hate him now, and in retrospect despite all the feelings I had towards him in the past, I realised he treated me like shit and belittled me and was an absolutely scumbag to me. So in reality he wasn't really my friend at all, no matter how much I loved him back then.
but like.. since when have humans said things absolutely completely factual? Fact-checked, researched, all that sort of thing? I cannot understand why people assume Mike is like in freaken court getting checked with "OH YOU SAY THIS BUT BACK THEN YOU SAID THIS SO YOU ARE LYING RIGHT????"
i can't believe i have to spoonfeed this much. His feelings are genuine, no matter how hard people want to twist it and make it seem like OH HE'S LYING HE STILL LIKES LUCY or OH HE'S JUST FORGETTING ABOUT IT. jesus christ. He hates her. STOP ASKING.
I'm sorry I have to be such a jerk about this, but I honestly get people asking me this too much and being really semantic as if there's some underlying feeling that Mike has that MAYBE MEANS HE STILL LIKES LUCY, but he DOESN'T. Do I have to make it CLEARER. It's like they want to find a reason to make their shipping work and I just am getting really sick of it, and really sick of how you keep coming back continually trying to get some sort of form of falsehood to Mike's feelings even though I made it pretty damn clear he DOESN'T LIKE HER. And he MEANS WHAT HE SAYS.
He DOESN'T like her because she TREATS HIM LIKE SHIT and he HATES HER realising in retrospect SHE IS NOT A NICE PERSON TO HIM, yeah she has done nice things and her actions in Confrontation are pretty noble, but I bet you there are housewives who get beaten every freaken day and their husband then comes home with a bouquet of roses telling them they're their soulmate and all that stuff, DOES THAT MEAN IT SUDDENLY GETS RID OF THE FACT THE HUSBAND BEATS THE SHIT OUT OF HER EVERY DAY? NO! God!
Stop asking!
I mean god there's a reason your questions are continually being flagged on formspring, I really should just obey that. Because you continually keep trying to find a way to destroy Mike's intentions and I have said it before that he MEANS WHAT HE SAYS.
So I suppose what I'd like to discuss is, does Taeshi's official statement conflict with how you see it being portrayed? Does it change how you view the story as is, or is your immediate reaction to invoke Death of the Author on this and any/all official words outside the story?
