Adventures in the Philippines or "Hey Guys, I'm Still Effin' Alive"

I've been gone on vacation and some pretty cool things have been happening, I guess. Anyways, I'll be telling you guys about my adventures! Each post will have what I did that day along with my progress in drawing comics and in vidya games.

Day One: Arrival -or- Jetlag is a Bizzatch

I arrived in the Philippines on Sunday with my sister and father at around one in the morning. Mother had to take a different flight since she had to exchange her round-trip ticket. We were greeted by a man holding a sign reading "Dr and Mrs Silva and Family", which my father found quite humorous since whoever was told to pick us up was told to put emphasis on the fact that he was a doctor. Anyways, after gathering our luggage, we were greeted by Bald Uncle, who, by the way, is awesome. He drove us to Baguio City.

The drive was about six hours and I spent most of it asleep. When we got to the vacation house, I slept some more. Eventually, mom told us to wake up. Apparently it was my grandma's 90th birthday and we had to get nicely dressed. Well, when we arrived, I thought I'd be fine. I got tons of rest and I should be able to handle staying up longer.

Well, let's just say I was wrong. We weren't even thirty minutes into the party service when I started to doze off. Usually, jetlag dosen't bother me. I usually adjust quickly. I don't know what it was, though, but I was suddenly using my soup as a pillow. I was drifting in and out for most of the party. However, I was awake for a few moments. Like watching a bunch of kids dance to Justin Beiber's "Baby", and watching Gay Uncle and my dad dance around in loincloths as part of a traditional Igorot dance.

I hate jetlag.

Day Two: Let's Go to the Mall -or- This Bookstore Ain't Got Nuthin'

We didn't have much planned this day other than a luncheon with Grandma and a bunch of my dad's siblings. We had to get a big table at the restaurant. Those poor servers... They didn't have a table big enough for fourteen people, so they had to put several tables together. Also, sweet tea at this place was awesome. Cinnamon sugar. I would have never thought to use that. Ever. Anyways, I ended up eating enough for five Americans. I was stuffed.

Then we went to the mall. My dad wanted to by Grandma a new television. While he was doing that, my sister wanted to go to the bookstore. However, they didn't have much at all. In fact, my sister started pouting. I was afraid she'd tantrum right there and then.

Other than that, not much happened that day.

Day Three: Up in The Studio-o -or- "Jay-Jay, you can't rap"

Probably the most eventful part of this day was when I went to visit my nephew, Jay-jay. For the longest time because of family drama, he was raised as my cousin. However, two trips ago he started treating me like an uncle and I learned the truth. It's awkward being blessed and greeted as an old person by someone two years younger than you.

Anyways, apparently he's in a small Filipino rap group. He has his own studio and has a few videos and tracks circulating aroud town. It's kinda nice, but it's all in tagalog, which is kinda cheap considering how easy it is to rhyme words when a vast majority of them end in a vowel sound. I asked him why he doesn't just try rapping in English. His reply, "It's too hard".

I told him to try it and I started beatboxing. He jumped in and tried a mix between the two languages.

Haha, day three was good. I'm guessing he attends those "Fliptop" (rap battles) shows people are crazy about here.

Enjoy your stay and don't forget to get those new peso bills before you leave. ;)
