lol, the premise of mushi-shi has intrigued me for a looong time. The reason I haven't watched it yet is the reason I have a lot of anime available to watch yet haven't. I simply don't have a whole lot of time at home to sit down and properly enjoy them. I work two jobs and am usually occupied with art and/or household chores to keep the place clean. :/

Another awesome manga is Rahxephon. I haven't watched the show, but the manga is one of my favorite short-series (only consisting of 3 volumes).

It has all the elements of anime it counts.

lol, I remember girlchan in paradise
  • #303

I posted this in the smile thread already, but I figure I should share it here, too.

There are a few anime that I absolutely recommend:
Black Lagoon
Fate/Stay Night
Kara no Kyoukai
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai
ToraDora!
Yu Yu Hakusho

Of all of these, I'd have to say that my favorite is definitely ToraDora! and anybody who is looking for a different series to start up should watch it.

I don't know if anybody mentioned this before, but...

Deadman Wonderland.
Go watch: http: //www.animeseason.com/deadman-wonderland/

Go read: Deadman Wonderland 1 - Read Deadman Wonderland 1 Online - Page 1

That is all.

alright, so I recently finished season one of Spice and Wolf. I loved it, and this seems an appropriate place to ask where I can find season two. (ie netflix, youtube, etc.)
Also, some series I've heard good things about but was wondering if they're worth watching:
-Full Metal Alchemist
-Gurren Lagann
-Naruto (I only remember this from when I was a kid. Does it hold up?)
  • #306

They are good anime except Naruto because of filler.
But if you think as filler of information then knock yourselves out.

I loved FMA, both the new and the old one.

I started watching Gurren Lagann but didn't really get into it too much, not bad though.

I have a lvoe hate relationship with Naruto. On the one hand it isn't that bad, the story is nice and what action there is is well done. On the other hand the filler slowly starts to get out of control. I would recommend a small amount of checking on Wikipedia to hunt down the filler arcs/episodes and not watching those, you won't loose anything really.

Naruto Shippuden, the series that comes after Naruto, is brilliant. It suffers from less filler overall, better plot and even more amazing action sequences. Honestly I love the fights in Shippuden.
  • #308

Fullmetal Alchemist is pretty good. The story is compelling enough to keep you watching episode after episode.

I haven't gotten to watch many episodes of Gurren Lagann, but I really enjoyed what I did get to see.

I tried watching Naruto, but it takes too long to progress very far in the story. The filler is killer. (I should coin that phrase...)
  • #309

Of course everyone associates naruto with it's almighty filler, but if you manage to shut off most of your brain while watching it it's surprisingly enjoyable.
  • #310

I have to say, XXXholic was not anywhere near as good as I thought, It was not bad just....It lacked something.

It felt like someone gave Lucy Star a story per ep that tried to be serous but feel short every time.

I hear FMA:Botherhood is the shit by comparison because it follows the manga better, but I haven't read the manga, so hurray for ignorance!

You really, REALLY need to watch more of Gurren Lagaan, that shit just gets crazier and crazier. Just when you think you've got the crazy gauged, it tops the crazy yet again.
  • #312

Watching Devil May Cry the Anime made me realize something....
DANTE is immortal or knows how to stay alive. Ether way it makes all of the ladies cry.
  • #313

I like far too many to choose favorites, but stuff that springs to mind. Anime: Black Lagoon (and Roberta's blood trail, though I liked the manga chapters for it better since the OVA decided to have Roberta get the crap beat out of her a lot more than in the manga), Haruhi, Hellsing Ultimate, The Tenchi stuff, Kenichi, Azumanga Daioh, Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, Kashimashi, Green Green, Bubblegum Crisis, Scientific Railgun and Magical Index, and pretty much all Gundam (what got me into anime). Manga: Gentleman's Alliance, Oresama Teacher, Rosario Vampire, K-on, Skip-Beat, Maid-sama, Beast Master, Jack Frost and the manga version of any anime listed.

I never got into FMA much. I saw probably the first half or so of the original series. A friend of mine at the time was pretty obsessed with it so I heard about it constantly and I think that eventually just got me to where I didn't care to see anymore due to info overload from her. I should prolly give brotherhood a chance though, I just never have picked it up.

I preferred the manga version of XxXHolic to the anime series. The anime ends before the manga does too by quite a bit, though there is a second series and I think 2 or 3 OVAs that finish it off that I haven't seen.
  • #314

Naruto's filler's got nothing on how out of control Bleach's is.

Following the rescue of Rukia, you get two filler arcs: The Bount Arc and the Bount Invasion arc. Then, one season of mostly canon episodes (not entirely!) concerning Ichigo getting a hang on his Visored powers. After a few minor episodes of filler, we go to Hueco Mundo, run around aimlessly for 13 episodes and then, without any explanation, we are back in Soul Society fighting a corrupt captain. This goes on for about 30 episodes before, quite suddenly, you're back in Hueco Mundo. About 25 episodes later, BAM. More 30 episodes of filler. Then 25 episodes of (mostly) canon. 30 episodes of filler. Then, we get a good 40 - 60 episodes of canon with a few episodes of filler interruptus patched in. Then, 30 episodes of filler. There are honestly more episodes of filler in Bleach than there are canon stories. It's a fucking mess.
  • #315

I agree Bleach is getting towards a ending with another Hollow arc. God it's getting more ridiculous now, someone is getting kidnapped, and I call this.
Actually they did explain it just not forward and detailed as much. Maybe if we had a flashback or two, it will help us with that.
Maybe the manga would be more interesting if the filler's were the manga or in the anime we can get a reference towards the filler.
MORE STUFF!
Lucky Star (just gotten finished)
Gundam G (nostalgia)
And Deadman WonderLand is amazing!
A truly good manga.

G Gundam had some pretty crazy and strange mobile suit designs (Hello windmill gundam). Lucky Star is another I need to pick up at some point. I've read a few volumes of the manga but haven't seen any of the anime. How was it?
  • #317

The anime for Lucky Star is crazy if you like voice actor Wendee Lee then you should watch it in dub.
And one more thing
Durarara!!!! read it and watch it.
Watch the anime first in dub or sub your choice.

I started watching Angel Beats! today. I'm only 3 episodes in and I'm really enjoying it. It has a nice mix of comedy and suspense with just a touch of tragedy.

Highly recommended!

Also, here's a .gif from the show with captions.

Been watching xxxHOLiC. I agree that it's lacking something, but I quickly found what that "something" is: half the story. The manga it's based on has a tendency to tie in heavily with Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle, to the point where reading Tsubasa is necessary during the later half of the series. They seem to be wanting xxxHOLiC's anime adaptation to be more standalone, but because the entire plot of the series is so dependent on Tsubasa it generally feels like the series is missing something. The other big problem I have is the art style, which I find is hideous, but the story is cleverly written and I have dedicated myself to watching one episode a day. However, this isn't a good series to binge on, because without the tie in that the manga got so much praise for, it gets dull quickly. Watching it at a slower pace makes it more enjoyable.
  • #321

I just skipped through a few post btw so if peopel already said something similiar I don't know.

I've been watching lot's of animes over the christmas holidays, like FMA Brotherhood (which is SO MUCH better than the first attempt at an anime.)
Or High school of the Dead (which I liked because it's the first real zombie anime series thing I watched so far but it has WAY to much ecci :V)
Or Toradora (which most probably have seen already but I didn't, I sure did enjoy it even though it had the typical "Don't like each other but en dup together anyway" thing, because it felt different with the characters.)
I also enjoyed Clanned, but only after watching Clannad Afterstory, because the first one seemed to happy to me.

The last one I watched was "Kimi ni Todoke" it was this typical school love drama stuff which ends how we all hate it :V

I also watched Code Gears back in summer(saw someone saw it as well), I really enjoyed it I liked the idea and everything, but during the end and the 2nd Season it got kind of ridiculous.

One of the best I just recently saw is Mirai Nikki, it’s still on going, but I already read the Manga of it, still going to watch the anime though because it’s really awesome x3 (attention, gore)

Just like Bakuman / BAkuman 2, I read the Manga like a year ago and now noticed there is an anime adaption to it. It's still on going as well.

I still love One Piece ever since I first watched it / read the Manga, I stopped reading the Manga though because I rather watch the anime to see what happens next. (Every single episode is a cliffhanger Dx)

I just recently noticed that Detektive Conan is back on german TV, that’s also a good series.

I’ll always love the first 2 Digimon seasons. lol

I'm also a huge fan of the The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Series, the movie was great especially since it was so long x3

Right now I'm looking for a new anime to watch. Best would be an already finished one.
  • #322

The art style of XxXHolic takes some getting used to. My friend didn't like it much either. I don't really have much problem with it myself, I've seen far stranger.
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya was really good. I picked it up at Anime Weekend Atlanta this past year and several of us watched it in the hotel room that night. Everyone agreed that alternate reality Yuki was in need of a hug.

And I think that gif killed part of my brain lol

So I'm just gonna post to say, the Persona 4 anime truly has gone beyond all my expectations. Everything is so well done, from animation and voice acting to sticking as close to the game as posible.

You all should try and watch it, even if you haven't played the game (Which you should if you haven't)
  • #324

I was thinking of watching Persona 4, but I haven't played any of the games (and I don't have the right platforms to play them either) Is it ok to watch the anime without having any knowledge of the series? @jackkuro
  • #325

I marathon'd Angel Beats last night. I liked it a lot, but the only critique I have of it is that I think it could have lasted longer than 13 episodes to cover more of the characters' backstories. You really only get to know a few of the characters before the series ends. Aside from that minor gripe, it was a very enjoyable show. There are at least a few good tear-jerkers, both happy and sad, towards the end.

Next up on my list of anime to watch is Dance in the Vampire Bund.
  • #326

@Lisa While you'll obviously get more out of the series if you play Persona 4 beforehand, watching the characters from the game interact freely and the beautiful animation for some stuffs, you may get some stuff out of it having NOT played the games. I mean, I already know what will happen, and am watching to see how they adapt the game into an anime and characterise the MC, but if you don't know the plot, that may actually make the series more enjoyable.

So yeah, I think it's ok.

So I guess this thread replaced the one in Social Studies?

Stuff I've read recently:
-"I am here!" by Ema Toyama. Really cute, really short romantic comedy slice-of-life kind of thing. Two (massive) volumes, pretty adorable.

Stuff I've watched recently or am watching:
-Mirai Nikki. Still watching this. Will probably read the manga at some point as well, but I have a friend who read the manga and is watching the anime and they said the anime is following the manga really closely (like FMA:B did).
-Hanasaku Iroha. Forgot why I started watching this, tbh, but I like it. Might've had something to do with the animation studio being the same people as Angel Beats..?
-Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko. Subbers for Mirai Nikki were taking a break for a week, so I looked around their site and found this anime. The animation style is insanely similar to Haganai ("Boku ha Tomodachi ga Sukunai" or something like that) but for some reason it's not the same studio.
-Grave of the Fireflies. Amazingly sad Studio Ghibli movie about WWII era Japan, co-released with My Neighbor Totoro (ironically). Made me cry near the end.
-Katanagatari. Binged episodes 2-12 with a couple friends just to see if we could survive it. We had all seen the first episode twice and had some technical difficulties that through us off-schedule a bit so we decided to skip it. We learned two things that day: Chouchou is the best Maniwa Ninja, and binging Katanagatari all in one day is a terrible idea.
  • #331

Okay, I lied, I didn't start Dance in the Vampire Bund. I watched the first episode of Clannad and I'll get around to watching the rest of the series some other time. But right now, I want to put a different short series in the lime light. It's called Carnival Phantasm.

Posted Image

Anyone familiar with Type-Moon will recognize the characters. This series was created to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Type-Moon. It's essentially a huge cross-over parody with characters from Fate/Stay Night, Lunar Legend Tsukihime, and Kara no Kyoukai.

It was released in Japan less than a year ago, so I wouldn't hope for an official U.S. release any time soon.

I watched Highschool of the Dead, it was very interesting for being a horror anime. People don't like it because of how sexual it is even though it has a very interesting storyline. I think that anyone who hates it for being too sexual is just as immature as the people who only like it for how sexual it is, because that's all they're focusing on, the sexuality. :x
