Actually, I've read the manga. It's one of my favorites.
  • #52

Well, seeing it all happen frame-by-frame is one thing, but..
Oh, and if you're a purist, then be shocked, because *gasp* they changed Nana and Mariko's hair colours. And a whole shitload of other stuff.

So how is this a horrible thing? ^_^

It was gentle irony.

That is one way to put it. ^_^
  • #56

Has anyone seen Chaos;Head?
  • #57

Code Geas. That's really all I'm gonna say.

Also that Studio Ghibli has some of the best movies I've ever seen, regardless of genre.
  • #58

Code Geass is gay.
No really. It genuinely is. :>

Comment, yeah, but I still preferred it over Eureka 7, which seemed... cheap, to me. Not sure how to explain it, just didn't prefer it.

Studio Ghibli is bloody good, Nausicaa is probably my favourite from them (piss off if I spelt it wrong I care not)

I need to get round to watching GIT:SAC though...

Oh, and if you want to emotionally scar yourself, go watch Beserk! ^^

Greatest villain of all time:

You don't WATCH Berserk. It's like if the New Testament ended with Christ being turned to Swiss Cheese. You never see the Skull Knight, you never see Guts declare war on the Godhand and ANY of the EPIC fights that take place afterward. Up until the Eclipse, the anime could be the better experience because it follows the manga pretty closely but the manga goes above and beyond incredible.

Just trust me on this: read the manga. It is potentially one of the greatest pieces of literature, art ever conceived.

Well now. I rather disagree with that. No really, I genuinely do. That one's my personal favorite. :P

That said, I tried getting into Eureka 7. It seemed perfectly decent, in fact aside from being only slightly lost, I kind of enjoyed it. Which made it all the more disapointing when out of freaking nowhere they went to some alternate universe where all the aliens were coming from and they were stuck on an island, sitting around for long, overdrawn episodes just talking about their feelings, and oh hey, she turned into a butterfly why not.
  • #61

Exactly, even more random than EVA.
But come now, a mecha anime with "fabulous" in it? HMMM.

http://img3.lln.crun...5ab030_full.jpg

(My opinion may or may not be massively biased by this amusing image)

As for the Beserk manga, fair play. But I've never been one to read manga, I'm not sure why but I have an aversion to it.
What I don't like though is when people pass off the anime of something as "not worth it compared to the manga". It's not MEANT to copy the Manga, it omits stuff for a reason! :P
  • #62

I don't know what happened at the end of Eureka 7, on a show that kinda played by Rule-of-Cool anyways, it guess they tried to go a more serious route or some shit? I don't know but I can tell you that the movie more than made up with it. It was like watching all your favorite characters again and I just got so much fan girl happiness.

BUT then they pulled some more crazy bull shit at the end and I just threw my hands in the air. It's an odd one to say the least but I still like it.
  • #63

I would have to say I'm also a Gurren Laggen fan.
  • #64

I think DBZ is okay.

But its fans. OH DEAR LORD ITS FANS.

It's a microcosm of every single stereotype associated with anime fans in general. All I hear is whine whine moan moan about every tiny minute detail that's changed in dubs. "baw it's Tenshinhan not Tienshinhan, baw it's Makkansappo not Special Beam Cannon." ITS A FREAKING ENERGY BEAM ITS NOT IMPORTANT NO ONE GIVES A SHIT AAAGH. ITS LIKE THE SONIC FANS. BUT WITH ANIME.

Aside from the other umpteen anime i'm trying to catch up on, I also need to bring up Fruits Basket. That show and manga was a BIG personal deal for me, dealing with a whole bunch of real-life mushy-mush i won't get into. But yeah. Plus its dub is actually superior. Yuki doesn't sound like a woman anymore!

I find myself being slightly embarrassed to admit that I am a K-On!! fanboy. I just love the characters 8-D

Gurren Laggen has to be the single best thing I ever stumbled upon while flipping channels. Not to mention every single person I have introduced to it LOVES it.
  • #67

I watched a Noein marathon the other day, must say its an excellent show

have yet to see Gurren Laggen yet

It's the only anime you will ever see that has people throwing galaxies at each other.

i watched a lot of anima... most of it is bad...

my 3 fav's are:

1.cowboy bebop
2.azumanga dahio
3.serial experiment lain.

and i didn't like laggen.
at all.
  • #70

I didn't like Laggan either, really. :/

You know, I think the hero of The World God Only Knows might be autistic.

I'd put Berserk at the top of my list, easily, and probably Cowboy Bebop a distant second. I don't know. Gantz has a lot of really good parts but some of the fighting arcs are so God damned tedious... I'm just hoping that Kurono and Tae survive and not be raped or something. I mean, I love how he went from complete dickwad to, well, shit. Look at the latest update and you'll see what I mean. He's a demure kid as long as he has his girlfriend, but fuck with her and your ass is grass.

Have you seen the second season of Higurashi no Nako Koro ni yet? Higurashi no Nako Koro ni kai.

That season explains everything and is pure awsomeness. I really wish they would bring the season over to the US and the OAV's.
  • #73

To throw my own two cents into the mix, I'm kind of new to anime but pretty much have the same standards for it that I have for American animation cartoons. I like comedys best (Love Hina, Azumanga Daioh, Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu) and love any point where the watcher/reader is reminded that it's a cartoon (breaking fourth wall, abnormally long stretches, physically impossible actions, etc). Now, having said that, I actually got into anime through Parinoia Agent, Code Geass, and Ghost in the Shell. All of these are serious, thought provoking animes that proved to me that anime could be good (I was stuck with the shisse that is 4Kids translations before).

As for form, I kind of prefer the manga over the anime, but that is mostly because I like reading.

Final Thought: It does not matter where the work is from or what form it takes; if it's good, it will be good. If it's bad, then it will be bad.

Yeah, I think I kinda skipped through the Answer Arc and then realised that it explained everything, so I decided to rewatch the first series and then watch the second series properly.

In High school I watched anime and read manga allll the time and went to every possible con I could. Before I went on my anime hiatus, I think my favorites (not in any particular order) were:

-Trigun
-Cowboy Bebop
-Rurouni Kenshin
-Ayashi no Ceres
-Black Heaven
-D N Angel
- DBZ cell saga (only the japanese version BEFORE the US butchered it to all hell)..even though all they do is stare at each other half the time
- Fruits Basket

Manga:

- Fruits Basket...they go MUCH further than the anime
- Ragnarok
- Peach Girl (super girly but I liked it)
- Mars
- Soul Hunters

After about...4 or 5 years of barely watching or reading it, my friend suggested Death Note. I put it off, but then found some time to watch it then got HOOKED. I love that fricken series! I kind of agree with oddguy there are a lot of shitty animes out there, but I find if I take suggestions from people who like the same kinda as I do, I find the better ones. Right now I am watching one called Kuroshitsuji and it's pretty good :)

What I love about anime is that when you recognize a seiyuu's (voice actor/actress) voice, you are sometimes able to recognize their voice in some other animes. For example, just then I looked at the Panty & Stocking and noticed how the one with black hair sounded familiar, I looked on wikipedia and turns out she also played as a character called Yoshikawa from GA Geijutsu Art Design Class.
That's one thing unique about anime and how seiyuus evolve around it.

I personally like STEINS;GATE, Kampfer, GA Geijutsuka Art Design Class, Macross Frontier and Katekyo Hitman Reborn. On the 7th July I can't wait for THE iDOLM@STER Anime to come out!!!!!!! 8-D

Anime genre music is good too as all the music in anime is sort of like a big mix of all other Japanese musci genres.

I sometimes watch animes for the seiyuus, in Kampfer, many of the seiyuus are the ones that I like lol

I started watching CHAOS;HEAD, I've finished episode 1 and my reaction is like O_O
It's interesting and is a phsyco suspense anime. It's very disturbing and thrilling.

It fizzles out at episode 4-5. They completely ruin the plot (and basically change genres).

My dad has a box set of Basilisk, I remember seeing not many scenes of it too.
The OP and ED songs are sung by Mizuki Nana though!! And she plays as the main woman in the anime!!! 8-D
  • #94

really? i never would have guessed that she did. what a fun fact.

my father says that anime is garbage, he thinks it's complete crap, but THEN he also loves the X-men origins; wolverine movie, so that's not saying much for his taste (that movie was absolutely painful)

lolololol the anime is called Keroro Gunsou in Japan, I think they call it SGT. Frog in the USA and maybe UK. But I'm not 100% sure though. :/
My dad has the first, second season of it in Chinese dubs lol. The people who got the videos clipped it from a Chinese childrens afterschool show which made me laugh.

I'd like to point out to Tabris that I made my comment on Elfen Lied in January December. ;)

Sylvia pulled one hell of a necro off here.

Seriously, though, why hasn't anyone mentioned Slayers? You can watch all 5 seasons on Funimation/Youtube. Sgt. Frog doesn't hold a candle to this off the wall series.
