I've been trapped in my in-laws house since Christmas Eve. i can not escape because my wife needs the car for work. I have the awful feeling that the people around me are barely tolerating me. I'm trying to be nice but i know that some of them just don't like me.
any survival tips?
Help! I'm trapped in my inlaws house and can not escape. how do you deal with people your forced to be social with?

that will get you through the first few days. but there is only so much BS i can handle. I have very little to nothing in common with these people.

Get just a little drunk, discreetly, and carry on an enthusiastic conversation with them. Never allude to religion, politics or otherwise and make sure not to give off any antisocial vibes. If they're prejudiced to you, let it run off you like water and carry yourself with confidence always.

Have some sexy children. In-laws won't concentrate on you when their sexy grandkids are around. They may even be slightly proud of you for serving as a proxy for their genetics.

mostly just that i married their daughter (Or sister depending on the individuals in the room)

I suggest that you get them all a bit drunk, they'll be a lot more friendly then.
On a more serious note, befriend your younger in-laws before the parents, if they see that they like you, they'll be more likely to be friendly.

the younger inlaws are actualy more of a problem. all girl family. (Lots of sibling rivalry and and vailed hatred.)

I doubt your ability to do that. If you were any good at manipulating her, you would already have boatloads of kids.

Iain, the best I can tell you is to be polite and kind. Not hesitant or afraid to speak out; do talk your mind if you have to, but be sure to keep it friendly.
Or perhaps the best advice to give is "do not think of it as a prison or a trap". It works wonders to think of your in-laws as those who gave you your wife. ^_^
