I don't know. The cut out a lot of the gay love stuff in the english dub - I think that mellow, near and matt were some kind of love triangle in the original japanese. Kira had Misa, so I doubt that he was gay.

Actually he is kind of like Light Yagami. I think Augustus would be a good L :3

One thing about death note though is I kind of lost respect for Kira half way through the series (some significant happens which made me sad but I wont be the spoiler :3)
