Scanning colored pencil art is a terrible idea. It removes a lot of the quality. And that's Eridan Ampora. Now go read Homestuck if you want to know more.

Bwuh bwuh. Mousecat your art is so goddamn adorableeeeeeeeeee #^_^#

He kind of looks like some weird JRPG Cowboy.

Thanks, Susan. It's nice to know that people like what I draw.

This one's not done yet, and I might have made the arms too large.

I have my last final exam today, so my Summer vacation starts around the afternoon. I'll have a lot of time to draw and play video games for a while.

Well I do like the varying body sizes.

The RiGBY comic will retain the more cartoony proportions if I ever get to continue it. But Felix in that RPG style is still pretty much Anorexic.

Right. I need to work on hands and feet.

I think of Panty and Stockings when I see your style. It's fabulous. :3 I must say, though, your simpler things are more dynamic, I admit I prefer them. But your new stuff is still a pleasure to my eyes. c: Keep it up!~
  • #214

Yeah, the feet could use more curves inward the closer they are to the base/heel. His right foot in particular, the left one is.. passable. XD

There's just no heel, that's the main problem. It looks like his feet are mainly just toes, which makes me question how he can retain his balance in the first place.

Ohh, thank you. Simpler stuff huh? It depends I guess, I usually just draw what I feel like drawing. Aside from some practice stuff. But my best work always come out when I just do it to enjoy.

I think I fixed it. Though the hand didn't match when I changed the feet so I had to change it as well. Hix's legs are pretty much tubes. So the detailed feet will look off if he ever does take off those pants. Which he won't. But then I guess I'll have to make the characters less simplified now.

Hmm, I think Hix's feet are rather too long now. In the original drawing, it seemed that the feet were positioned somewhat too far back, so that each leg dropped down into the middle of a foot.

Overall though, I enjoy your drawing style, and the way you portray anthropomorphs. Though when I searched for the RiGBY comic online, I found a very different comic with a rather similar title: "RiGBY the Barbarian". Yes, even with the same lower-case 'i', which is quite a weird coincidence.

Too long now? Uh, I'm not going to redo it anymore though. There are other things I want to try working on. Yeah, I've heard about RiGBY the Barbarian. But they're different genres so I thought it wouldn't matter. On my webcomic, I'm not sure what to do with that. I've been working on it last year by making scripts and stuff but it got lost when my hard drive died. It's Summer vacation over here now so I think I can work on it again. Only I don't feel like stopping the hiatus just yet.

Yeah. My avatar is also a clue. The 'i' means nothing. I needed to add it to make RiGBY readable as one word.

I made two more. The costumes are getting ridiculous so I think I'll stop sketching new ones. A good thing that came from this is that my sketches seem to be getting cleaner than before.

This was for a group, but then it got declined since Joltik is not in the list of accepted pokemon. Still, it's adorable.

So my cousin's hard drive broke and after some discussion we decided to return the one he gave me back to him. Now my laptop's without one again so I can't Photoshop properly. I do have access to lots of desktops but they don't offer any privacy, and it's hard to do anything when there's people breathing down my neck. I did try to run Linux systems with my laptop through USB drives. Started with Parted Magic since that's the distro I know the most, but it's not really meant for casual programs and txz files are confusing. Tried Ubuntu, and while it reminded me of a Mac it easily got full since I only have a 2GB drive. Next I'm going to try Puppy Linux. Hopefully I can test out and see if GIMP and InkScape works for me.

There's hardly enough space but I can manage. I can use another usb drive to store files. And I should probably stop posting in this thread.

All done with a mouse, and made everything except for the texture. But I guess it'd be cool if I start making my own textures.

A preview for the next RiGBY page. Sure there's some errors, but I'm learning at least.

RiGBY is inked traditionally, while Canvas Point will be done digitally. That way I'll improve on two inking styles while still learning how to make comics.

You seem to have a tendency to not draw anything below the hips or the knees. Is that a stylistic choice, or do you just not like drawing legs and feet? :P For example, on page one of RiGBY, I'd say it works in the first two panels, because there's a panel cut-off anyway, but the third guy (Hash Brown?) just looks odd without any legs sticking out of his shorts.

In the last drawing you posted just above, there seems to be something strange going on with the torso of the guy in the first panel. The way it's drawn and shaded, it's almost as if the upper part of him is leaning back while his crotch is sticking out. Now I'm no artist, but I'm kind of thinking you drew him in two different perspectives at once (with the upper part of his body turned more to his left than the lower part).
  • #232

It's a style choice, since drawing the legs can block perfectly good panel space. On the first page of RiGBY I already did it twice so I figured I should do it a third time. I was trying to apply the rule of three. But it wasn't effective I guess.

On the latest page I didn't notice that. And nobody pointed it out until now. Not much thinking was done on the shading actually, I just wanted to use my pens. And it felt really good using pens to make something that turned out like that.

drew some uh... monsters?
Posted Image
Strangely after that I couldn't draw my usual characters' faces properly. They would turn out distorted and not look like what they're supposed to look like. But then they were distorted to begin with so I should try to fix that more.

Hello. Sorry for bumping so much but I worked on the site design for RiGBY.

I just modified the default template but I think it turned out well. RiGBY has its own domain but it's too early to fully use that site.

If I may make some more comments?

Nine pages into the comic may be too early to make this criticism, but at this point, we're really only properly introduced to one of the four main characters (Hix). New readers probably wouldn't even realize Dessy is meant to be the girl on page 2. And you don't have a cast page to help identify the characters.

On page 8, it seems a bit strange to hear a character say "Why are you walking away?" when nothing is actually shown of Hix walking away. Also, what's up with the apparent human on page 9?

Now for the things you're doing right: I like that the characters are easily distinguishable. You've got a variety of heights, colours, body sizes (pudgy Miso is especially well done), and hair styles. That differentiation will be important, especially if this comic is going to have a large supporting cast. Though I'm guessing the focus would be on the four main characters?
  • #235

I don't think I should redo the earlier pages but continue on with the story. Or I'll be stuck in the first chapter forever.

The human is just another face in the crowd. So far every character shown is from a different species, except Hix and Miso since they're the same kind. What they do have in common is that they're all mammals. I'm trying to not let people think that all anthropomorphic characters are the same. Species is going to be a big part of the plot actually. If the comic ever gets that far.

I am working on cast pages. The index for the cast page will be graphical. Basically, there will be 'pictures Dessy took of people' strewn about in a messy manner. And clicking on the respective character's face/body will send you to their respective page. As the story progresses, more pictures will be added. The character pages will have their school ID, plus more pictures, a bio, and some small snippets. Characters that don't have school IDs will show passports instead. I had some things typed out in OneNote last year that would help me flesh some of the bio but they got... lost. I moved to Evernote after that. So that just means more drawings, coding, and typing. But no rush, RiGBY is completely unknown. I can take all the time I need to work and improve. And drawing should just be a hobby to be honest.

Thanks, I suck at body type so I didn't think people would notice. There really is going to be a large cast. It would be weird if the main characters always hang out together. Their families have their own plans for the Summer, and they have their own friends outside school. But things will still somehow focus on the four.

Coulda fooled me. :P They don't look anything alike, except for the shape of their ears.

I think the yellow guy with the blue eyes and green jacket is the most intriguing person so far. I don't know, maybe I'm just attracted to the eyes. They're strangely alluring. :D

Is there discrimination between species in this universe?
  • #237

There is, but it won't be the focus for a long time. I'm just going to try and get people attached to the characters.

RiGBY updates Saturdays. Precisely at 0:00, GMT+8. Which is technically Friday evening at other parts of the world. I'm going to try maintaining this style.

The guy facing up in the last panel looked more correct when everything was still a sketch.
  • #243

So I removed the pages from last year. Since it was getting draggy and all those characters won't even show up for a long time, plus some other reasons.

This was supposed to be the next page after the long hiatus. I was thinking of making it look like stickers. A stylization. But it didn't go as planned.

I wanted to get grays, so I used colored ink in some parts and just made it grayscale.
  • #246

I think my sketches could be cleaner. Inking too.

So I'm opening sketch requests. I'm not picky, and I want to see just how much I suck at drawing things that I don't usually draw. As long as it fits within the rules of the forums and common decency, then I can take most requests.
