If all this is is a matter of definitions, then no. Rules are standards for activities, in the most abstract sense. Not having rules would be a standard for an activity (life), which would be a rule.

What I said wasn't illogical - this is called arguing by contradiction. By supposing the opposite of what I want to show (that there are no rules), and seeing a contradiction follow, it shows that you always need at least one rule.
