And to address the issue with the voices; Look, I don't want Uber to have to PAY someone to voice characters for this, it seems like a waste so I volunteered to do all of them. If you don't like it, to bad. Try out or don't complain. Thank you

I have nothing against you or your voice acting; in fact, I like it! I just thought that it would be better if the characters sounded different, but I am fine with you taking over for the female parts. I have nothing against you voice acting if it means saving money for the main developer. It was a very kind thing to do. o:

Does he sound robotic? shit...maybe i should redo the vocals. I didnt hear him when i tried it so i didnt know

Sammy - I'll have a quick run through the code later - there's a chance I just misplaced a line or two, I'll look into it.
Gameking - Awesome, thanks! We hadn't actually tested on a Mac before now, so it's great no know it works!
Wolf - Thanks for the feedback! Avoiding meeting David in the park is unintentional, but not a big issue - the story unfolds in a way that ensures every character is introduced in a meaningful sense, one way or the other Abbey, Carter and Amaya are'nt in the game yet - they show up eventually, which is why the art is there; to give me something to work with until the actual art is done and I'm testing. As for the arrant space... I'll look into it, thanks for the heads up!
Renaethecat - Thanks for the feedback On the subject of voices, I tried to pick the best actor depending on what they auditioned for - for example, if someone auditioned for say, Mike, but they would be perfect as Carter, I owuldn't ask them to do Carter, purely because I didn't want people voicing characters they didn't want to do. However, I'll modt likely edit the voices for the final release, just to do some minor pitch shifting to make the voices distinct/slightly more fitting. On the subject of the art - The initial plan was to ask Taeshi to do the art, however, since Tae is no doubt busy with other things (and I don't have the money to commission the art), I decided against it. Thanks for the feedback though
Toffee - Glad you like it On the subject of voices - I've had one or two people say about the voices being quiet, but for the majority of people it seems fine. I'm guessing there's perhaps a hardware issue and the engine is trying to use channels that some sound processors don't/can't use - I'll have a fiddle around and see if I can find out what's casuing it. Failing that, I'll re-edit the dialogue and make it a tad louder next time. Thanks for letting me know!
Quaddy - The game itself doesn't touch the registry at all
Commie - Do you mean they're too quiet, or they don't play at all? If it's the latter, that's strange considering the engine handles the rendering itself... I'll look into it, thanks for the heads up
Rubicon - There's a chance you might be getting confused - McCain doesn't actually have any dialogue ingame yet You might mean Mike or Paulo - I'll have a listen later and see who you mean, and fiddle around in my audio editor for a bit
Again, thanks to everyone who's left feedback - and if you've played it and want to say something or suggest additions, don't be shy! We're taking /everything/ on board, we want you guys to enjoy this when it's done!

Here's my suggestions:
1. You should make the transitions between the music pieces a bit more smoother.
2. You should try to make it a bit more challenging to pick the 'good' choices.

I'll DL it later today when I get home, and looking forward to it!!
- 25 December 2010 - 06:32 PM
Also, will the backgrounds show when the scene changes / when one conversation ends and another begins? That would make it easier to understand.

-The dialogue it's too simple. With McCain there are only 2 options: Good or Bad. That's rather too simple. I think that maybe you have though on it, and it will change in the future .
-I'm sorry to say that I don't think that Paulo's voice fits with the character :S. But we can consider this a matter of personal taste.
-I really love Michael, SAndy and David's voices.
-In some points of the game, it was a little confusing about what was happenning. That is, withouth any warning you changed from place or conversation.
And I wanted to ask 2 questions:
-Can I be part of the private beta testers?
-And... WHO THE HECK IS THE AUTHOR OF THE MENU SONG? Damn, I love it.
- 26 December 2010 - 07:45 AM
I just realised where I'd heard one of the music tracks before, that was the night time theme in Digimon World.
Or at least, it was very similar. That took me 15 minutes of sitting there wondering where I had heard the song before >_>
Also: I don't know, but I always assumed that sandy had an accent, it just seemed that way when she mispronounced things.
EDIT: I don't know, I don't think Paulo's voice really matches his character a whole lot I would've thought he'd be more "BOOM IN YOUR FACE" kind of thing, not so quiet.
EDIT2: On to the actual game, it's well done as a system, however, as Volgrand said, it seems a bit simple, you can either be a huge asshole, or a really nice guy.
Once the game's filled out with more dialogue and such, it should be spectacular
Good work so far, and if you need any more voices for (almost) anything, just ask.

Commie - /me rolls eyes
Volgrand - The dialogue is simple for the first section of the game, just to give players a reminder that "Oh yeah, your choices affect the game. And oh yeah, you can't reverse them." More complex options get added eventually, don't worry On Paulo's voice - you are'nt the only one, I can see it being a little like Marmite - you either love it or you hate it. When the game is done I might release a pack to alter his voice, but that's waaaay down the line if it happens. On the sudden change of place thing, that's a side effect of the game being alpha - I havn't coded in the day markers or backgrounds yet, so it does get a little confusing. There'll be transitions in the final build to make things easier, don't worry. To answer your questions - Beta is at least a month or two off, I'll open applications and decide who gets to beta closer to the time And as to the menu music... I'll release music credits when it's all finalised
Jimmy - Indeed, the nighttime park music is from Digimon World, but remixed I was kinda hoping there'd be more remixes since so much of the music from that game was amazing, but oh well. On the subject of Sandy's voice - Commie did two sets of lines, one normal, which you see here, and one with an accent. Since she's already doing a ton of work, I chose to go with the non-accented version because I personally liked it better. If there's enough people wanting the accented version as an optional extra, I'll ask Commie to do it - but at the end of the day, it's her doing all of the work, so it's her decision whether or not she does. On the subject of Paulo and dialogue, same as my response to Volgrand
Thanks for all the feedback everyone! The alpha will remain online, but I'm taking a short break from development for a little while (and by break I mean I'll be doing half an hour less on it each day) due to exams in January. Rest assured, this won't disrupt our schedule in the slightest, and we still hope for a release in the first half of next year.

Taeshi never hints that she would have one or anything, she's a normal American like everyone else so I really don't like giving her one. Same thing with Tess, I try to make her sound a little deeper from the rest of the girls, without making her full on Southern (cause in Tennessee everyone has a slight one.
On a related note, you guys have to remember that Cloud is from the UK, so his accent is always going to be there. It takes years of training to work around that. So yes, some of the girl's voices will sound similar, but give me some slack. So far, only Sandy and Jasmine's lines are in there and I haven't even PICKED a voice for Jasmine yet, I just kinda read the line and went on. I promise the rest of the girls sound different and after we play with the pitches a bit it shouldn't be a problem of them sounding too alike. But yes, they will sound similar but all I can say is if you don't like it turn them off.
Also, all the boy's voices are great in my opinion! Good job guys, sorry my crap voice is parred with all of yours.

The only thing I ever heard "officially" was when someone commented that...
ah, read here, Taeshi's is the third comment in this page:
But she obviously didn't think like that before that comment.
And she could have been only joking, I dunno...

Yes but many people would put her with a French or Britsh accent sooner than Asian and I can't do an Asian accent anyways,
- 26 December 2010 - 10:50 PM
Alalix - The music transitions are gonna be added as part of the beta - that's when all the polishing starts. As for the good choices being more difficult - the extra "neutral" options will make sure that it's a little harder to see whether it's good or not
Commie - Decide on which one you want to do first, I'd rather you not get confused doing two voices for the same character at the same time

Would you please point some of those out?
I wanted an official source to really be sure, and pass that info on
And why would being asian make her a good model

In addition, if that were the case, everyone would likely complain because the "character didn't feel right", so we decided to have multiple campaigns, using existing characters only. This way, everyone is able to play a character they like, we have an established background for the characters, and I don't need to worry about "fancharacters". If someone wants to mod the game when the SDK comes out to add something like this, feel free.

DEAL WITH IT

And Ubertoast, I have saw that the menu list covers lucy on the right side of the menu screen. Is that normal in all games, or maybe a problem of the resolution of my screen? Because maybe the menu list would be better in the left side of the screen.

Still working on altering the particle count (that's how many snowflakes are onscreen at a time) without needed to copypaste the whole code and changing it there, but still - weather!

Will the weather alter the background, as well?
For instance, if it's snowing in the park, should there be lots of snow on the ground, and if it's raining, puddles?
Just curious about that, because it wouldn't make much sense if it snowed all day and there was no snow anywhere...

This is coming along awesomely
- 29 December 2010 - 03:25 AM
1. I am loving the game so far, keep it up.
2. David's voice sounds to high to me, but his speed and additude are perfect. If you can digitally drop his voice an octive it would be perfect.
3. Paulo's voice sounds to low to me.
4. Other then the sound quality issues that you mentiond you were rerecording, I think Sandy's and Jasmine Voices are perfect.
5. I also think Mike's voice is very good.
6. I love the side boob(s) on the girls. It makes me laugh.
I am definatly looking forward to more of the game.
I forgot to mention that I am basing my opinion of the voices on what I think the charactures would sound like. But in the end my opinion doesn't really matter.
