MMG 11 - Turning the Tide. Willkommen, Soldaten, Offiziere und Zivilisten!

"Careful what you touch, Janine."

Therese stepped into the bathroom, her arms crossed. "Looks like we're in danger after all. Didn't I say we should pair off? See what happens when we don't listen, everybody?" She smirked grimly, briefly.

"So, is our spy our murderer? Or is someone among us taking this opportunity to make the American a scapegoat?"

"My word! This guy really did a number on her!" Janina exclaimed in shock as she shows everyone else what she discovered.

"Did they do this so she wouldn't make a sound? And that wound, it's a bullet wound alright. I can smell the gunpowder, and I am taking note that her skin is warm. Which means she was probably killed within the last hour or two." she said.

"And it's Janin-A!" Janina said in reply to Therese.

"Check the bathwater. If it's warm that might not be the case. However, wouldn't we have heard the gunshot?"

Therese stared at the symbol on the corpse's forehead. "Is it possible the ... poor dear was murdered somewhere else? And then dragged back here for us to find?"

Therese Kappel still told you so
  • #103

"No! Look, her skin is warm. Body temperature cools down at a slower pace than blood would. Blood is a liquid and therefore skin is much thicker than blood. That means skin can stay warmer longer than blood can. If her skin was cold, than that would means she'd been killed much later. She couldn't have been killed outside because there is blood in the bathtub. She's also naked which implies that she must have been taking a bath. As for hearing the gunshot...haven't you ever heard of a silencer? Fat American spies use them to go unnoticed." Janina stopped, than giggled "Look at me telling you all this. I deserve to be enlisted if I have to explain basic science to higher officers!" she teased.

Achin shrugged from the doorway, standing up straight to peer past the two women.

"Perhaps not. We cannot tell how much she bled into the bath to stain the water so." Achin stepped forward, leaning close to the girl's forehead, examining the mark and the gunpowder-esque residue. "The killer may have been standing directly in front of her. I have seen many such deposits on the wounds of those executed." Achin shrugged again, straightening up and putting his leather gloves on.

"Basic science? Hah, I wouldn't doubt you understand less of what you just said than we do." Therese stepped back to give Achin some room. "Achin will certainly have a more.. Intelligent hypothesis."

Dietrich wakes up to find himself still in the chair he was in last night. He yawns as he exits the room and steps outside. As he strolls around the chateau in the morning sun, he sees 3 troops huddled by the mailbox talking. He walks to them and motions for a cigarette. " So boys," he says lighting the cigarette and taking a puff. "Did you sleep well?" They reply by shaking there heads no. "Oh come now, you still can't be scared of yesterdays accident?" The troops then tell him about the murder. "WHAT! Why doesn't anyone ever wake me for this!?!" [at this rate, I'll be found dead in my sleep] Dietrich takes one last puff and thanks the soldiers. [ If I'm going to survive this, me and Poldi will need to stick together] he continues toward the chateau to see the mornings misfortune. - Dietrich von Hammersmark

Poldi stands next to Janina staring into the eyes of Matilda. Under his hardened exterior, he did still have a heart. He didn't like seeing children killed, this war was caused by adults and should be fought with adults. He saw the star of David engraved on her forehead and immediately thought that something didn't add up. He would wait until a later time to bring it up though. He knew he couldn't show any respect for the jews while Janina was around.

He remains silent as he examines the floor for any traces of blood.

If there was blood on the floor, the killer did a good job making sure it was all cleaned up. It's spic and span to the human eye, but you can't be really sure there wasn't blood on it at one point in time.

"Huh," said Lena dispassionately as she saw the limp corpse lying in the bathtub. She did not appear to be the least bit interested in what had happened; it had not happened to her, nor to... him. So why should she care? The nurse turned on her heel and crossed her arms, facing the wall, while her back was directly against the bloodied scene of crime.

You find nothing more that can be permissible as evidence. All you've got is the body and the wounds on it. But have you really checked the whole body?

Achin shrugged at Therese's words, looking self-superior as he straightened up. He would keep his cards close to his chest, until they found the spy and the killer, even if both were the same person.

"I would not be so sure. Unlike Herr Bauer, I do not associate myself too closely with the intricate workings of the body." Achin turned away from the bathroom, considering the burned-in afterimage of the dead body in the tub. The star obviously meant that a sympathizer out for revenge was among them.

But it could always be a red herring. Scheisse...if only the Fuhrer had not called away the other guards. Achin cursed in his mind, clenching his gloved hands into fists.

as Alois looks at the star, he begins to question if the killer is even a spy at all, but really just a very sneaky, lucky jew. he then abandons such thoughts and re-asures himself its a spy, considering the book with all the hidden letters.

atleast it was a quick death.

he then leaves the room to get into a more suitable clothes, rather than pajamas.

"My word! I was asked that if anything happened I be... Mathilde?"

Ambros had walked into the bathroom normally, but his average rage and intolerance was silenced as he was shocked by his sister. His own sister, such a good child, slaughtered like an average Jew! The small black heart in his chest seemed to beat once more futilely before finally giving out all together, what little humanity he had seemingly snuffed out. He appeared absolutely enraged as he looked over the corpse, but asked emotionless,
"What evidence have you gathered? Was it the Allied spy?"

"well weve confirmed she has a star in her head, and it seems like she was killed quickly in the bathtub with a bullet to the head. theres also the fact shes missing a tounge, but that wasnt to keep her quite i can asure you that. it is probably a form of clue, we cant decypher yet." Alois said as he came back into the bathroom wearing his usual clothing. "but we havent confirmed it was the spy yet, it may of been someone else." he continued, acting as if the events hasnt shaken him.

After changing, Dietrich went downstairs to find that Ambros had join the others in the bathroom. [All hells about to break lose] he thought to himself. Even though he doesn't want to be near Ambros since he just lost someone dear to him, Dietrich sucked it up enter the tight room. In fear of saying anything that would make him feel Ambros' wrath, he would need to chose his words wisely. "If I may," he said getting close as he put on his old war gloves. He then examines the wound. Since he has been on the battlefront before he thought he could at least try to figure out what bullet was used and what type of gun. -Dietrich von Hammersmark

Achin gestured to Alois contemptuously, his eyebrows drawing together in a frown as he spoke up.

"What makes you think her tounge was not cut out to keep her quiet? If the killer did kill her in the bathtub, then he would have done so quietly. Perhaps that wretched star and the bullet hole were added after her...Mathilde's death." Achin glanced at Ambros, hearing his question. If his temper was as short as reputed, then he would most likely be very difficult to deal with.

"We do not know, yet. It could be that the spy and the killer are working together, or on their own agendas. Either way, it is quite clear that someone here very strongly sympathizes with the Jews." Achin reminded the group imperiously, folding his arms as he spoke. "For now, I suggest we bury Mathilde." Achin looked to Ambros for confirmation.

He could be either a powerful ally or a most dangerous enemy. Mentally, he must be fragile and on the edge. Achin frowned again, stepping out of the bathroom.

Matthäus stared. The scene was gruesome, yes, but he had to think clearly.
Someone in here killed this person. Someone murdered them. I could be next, this is obviously a trap of some kind, keep your wits about you Matthäus he though to himself.
He stepped out of the bathroom, moving to one side of the door, if it was a trap, he didn't want to be caught in it. Retribution, Bauer he thought whoever this is, they're definitely against the nazi party.
He grimaced, and peered at the people inside the small bathroom.
One of them
"I agree with Achin, let us bury the body"
He also turned to face Ambros

"because, general achin, anyone can make a noise without there tounges, just not words." Alois proceeds to hold his tounge and attempts to make a noise, it wasnt eligable as any language, but it was a noise. "you see? so therefore removing a tounge would of just kept her from speaking in a form thats understandable for the rest of her life, which apparently wasnt long. that is, if they removed the tounge before killing her." he then exited the bathroom to go to the window and see if anyone had taken up a post on the abandoned mg42, hoping the soldiers werent as dumb as they all looked.

Ambros continued to stare at the body, not directly regarding the others in the room as he spoke with a cold flat tone.
"Her body will be buried immediately."
His face was still contorted in a deep rage and determination, the only emotion he expressed in his actions as he considered everything. He turned to the Generals in the room, looking over them formally before standing up straight.

(Sorry I kinda fell asleep.)

Jutte had stayed in bed while they examined the body. After a few grueling minutes, Mathilde's body was carried out much to Jutte's dismay. Blood leaked out all over her floor and Renate immediately moved to clean up the mess before it stained the woodwork. After that, Jutte -- with Renate's help -- attended the small makeshift funeral for Mathilde in her backyard. Due to the absence of a pastor, Dietrich filled the spot and she was covered with a spare Nazi flag and buried in the chateau's garden. After they had paid their respects, the group gathered in the drawing room to discuss a plan of action.

Poldi turns to Janina and recounts his thoughts from earlier.

"I believe we may have multiple killers my love, I doubt an American spy would kill that young girl, she had no important place in the war. Even if the star on her forehead meant she was a jewish sympathizer, the spy wouldn't have killed her for that reason. There must be 2 or more killers, or maybe..."

He holds his glance while in deep concentration

"Maybe she was just a trick, to throw us off track. Either way, we need to closely watch these people. I don't intend to die here, I still have much loving and drinking to do."

He chuckles a bit

After hearing Dietrich's statement, Poldi holds on to the strap around his shoulder, keeping the Kar98 on his safe on his back.

"Dietrich, my friend, we need to keep these weapons to keep ourselves safe. With all due respect, I'll be keeping mine"

Poldi
  • #128

"Ohhhh Poldi you are so smart~!" Janina said lovingly. "Perhaps there really ARE two killers. A spy and a jew or jew sympathizer. Dirty rats probably used the whole spy scare as a way to try and hide their crime. That way we would think the spy did it and we would be thrown off." she explained. "Oh Poldi, what would I do without you!" she blushed, and held his arm.

"But..." she let go of Poldi and stood looking at everyone "Who should we try to find first? Both want to kill all of us, but who would be easier to find? And is it possible that this spy is aware of who the jew is?" Janina questioned.

"I understand that we need our weapons to defend ourselves, but hear me out." He then begins to remove the clip and remove the bullets. He then holds the empty clip." I propose that the killer might have used their weapon to kill Mathilde," He looks at Amberos who returns the look with a dark stare. Seeing as he was treading of fragile ground, he continued, "Since I wasnt able to figure out what bullet killed Mathilde, I believe that they would have a bullet missing from thier clip. He then begins to reload the clip. " As you can see, my clip is full. I recommend that everyone do the same. One at a time though." - Dietrich Von Hammersmark

Ambros nodded at Dietrich, still acting distant, his facial expression having remained constant. His last connection with his former life was gone; killed by his new one, like everything else had been. He was no longer Ammy, the excited boy who tugged at his father's sleeve as they left for a Sunday drive through the beautiful German countryside. He was head of the Secret State Police Ambros Bauer. With an official air he turned to face Dietrich as he spoke, taking a step forward so as to command greater attention from the crowd that had been trading ideas.

"Sergent von Hammersmark, I will acquiesce, for the sake of progress, as it is worth investigating our armaments, even if futile. The sooner we find this vile swine, the sooner I can personally attest to their punishment." He pulled his own Mauser C-96 from his breast pocket, placing it on the table.
"And trust me; they will wish I used my gun."

Alois proceeds to take the clip out of his sidearm and throws it on the table, then shows a full one that he had extra on hand, and puts it in his pistol. "I'm not going to leave myself defenseless, but i don't need 2 clips." he then puts his sidearm away again. "sergeant Dietrich, you say there was a soldier station here? did you ever happen to ask them why no one was on the mg42 when we arrived?" he said, with a slightly curious, yet frustrated tone.

Janina's heart started beating faster. "You misguided idiot!" she said, turning to Ambros. "He's better than me? Really? I say again, ANYONE! can take a gun, with extra clips, and reload it. Maybe they didn't reload a clip? Let's say they tried to frame someone else. I think this method is ridiculous. You guys are going absolutely NO WHERE with this idea. As I said before, there is a high possibility of there being TWO killers. We need to discuss more important matters like how we should split up. Matthäus is right, if we all move together, we all die. We need to form groups of three or four. should an entire group be killed but one survives, we record who was in that group and the survivor shall be interrogated. Should a group be missing a member and then a murder occurs after, and the victim in question was NOT the missing member, than they too shall be a suspect. Do you understand now? We all have to work together. Your positions are absolutely USELESS now. Open up your minds and start taking in methods and idea's from EVERYONE for a more faster and effective investigation." Janina stood, arms crossed. She was beyond furious now, pushed to the point of neutrality. "Otherwise you can all piss off." she added bitterly.

"...are you done?"
Ambros put his arms behind his back, making sure to stand in as authoritative a stance he could summon with his years of training and work.
"We are going to break into effective groups and we are going to search for clues while keeping track of all of our locations. After we check the weapons, because it is helpful to analyze all possible clues. But, by all means, scream again and waste time. And our ranks are important, because we are men with years of training and service; you are not. Now refrain from speaking unless you suddenly stop being useless in the time between now and then."
He turned away, still not wishing to expand the energy to get actively angry, glancing at the weapons on the table at the moment before looking to everyone with a sweeping glance.
"Now, can we please? If not for a solution, then as an act of trust?"

The firearm search yields no clues. All weapons are fully loaded and none of them appear to have been fired. Frustrated, Janina again raises hell and Ambros slaps her to quiet her. The group bickers long into the evening and eventually the higher ranking officers escape from the squabbling among civilians. At that point in time, the generator for the chateau kicks off mysteriously and the house goes pitch black. With the aid of candle light, Jutte enters the basement and toys with the generator. The once pitch-black home is bathed in bright light as another scream reverberates throughout the household. Janina has fallen over faint at the sight of the woman in the chair beside her, now dead and bleeding.

The Third Murder

Katrin von Levi is sitting in one of the drawing room's chairs, her throat slit and blood still oozing out. Her eyes are glossed over and in her jacket pocket there appears to be a rather small piece of paper sticking out. Blood coats the front of her jacket, pants, and is pooled around the bottom of her chair. Her jacket is open and her shirt appears to be ripped, the star of David having been etched into the flesh on her chest.
