i tend to use it for situations i.e

"the shopping center was mad"

i don't tend to use it for sanity (but i do sometimes)
i tend to use:
insane for insanity
  • #2

this is by far the most pointless thread ever opened on the forum.
no disrespect.

No offense taken. I just thought at the moment it'd fit under "Social Studies", 'cuz it was about day-to-day vocabulary. :)
I mean, how am I supposed to know what the mods find to be an interesting thread. ':-/
  • #5

I tend to use it for all three meanings although, the last one (ie: "dude, that was mad coolio") a lot less often than the other two.

I use it as either synonymous with anger ("He's really mad with me") or as synonymous with crazy or insane. In the latter case, I often find myself saying about non-clinical insanity as well, such as in the phrase "I'm going slightly mad".

Oh, and mad libs. Those are fun. ^_^

I only use it to express anger.

I prefer crazy, or insane for insanity.

And, I see threads much more pointless every now and then...
  • #8

Like most citizens of the Internet I only use it for 2 phrases. This is madness!!! And you mad bro? So I'd have to say both.

Is there no reason

That you couldn't answer this

With a God damned dictionary?

mad is the same as insane

NOT THE SAME AS ANGRY!
stupid American pervertion of meaning

  • #15

Once again, let's have a debate about how words carry different connotations in different contexts.
  • #16

Oh, yes, dictionaries chronicle the popular usage of words. ^_^

It's pretty hard to look up peoples' preferences in a dictionary.
  • #24

Not really. I mean, if people didn't prefer to use those versions in the dictionary, they wouldn't be in the dictionary.

You forgot the bag. :P
  • #26

Technically, any bag in which I place the douche becomes a "douche bag."

Unless that's what they mean by the little filler bulb at the end, in which case I've already posted it.

SO THERE, SMARTYPANTS

I'm kind of convinced the word hipster doesn't mean anything anymore. It's used too much, if you're between the ages of 16-24 and you wear clothes you are a hipster.

And I know, I used to use the word 'hipster' to define people who just wore retarded trendy shit, and are asshole elitists when it comes to people's taste in music. But it seems that no matter what your characteristics are you are going to judged as a hipster by somebody.

I'm a big fan of the magazine. And I've lost faith in all of you for not mentioning it yet.
