2012 films

It's Hollywood. You expect originality?
  • #151

nope. queue remakes of remakes
  • #152

Saw Fast Five last night, it was very disappointing and underwhelming.
  • #153

overwhelmed, underwhelmed, why can't people just stay whelmed?
  • #154

I'll whelm your face.
  • #155

Saw Horrible Bosses last week. It was actually the funniest movie I've seen all year!

Saw Harry Potter tonight... Not gonna lie, I, uh, cried... A lot... Like a little bitch....
  • #156

I had the same reaction to Just Go With It, Mikaro. I hope Horrible Bosses will be the same.
  • #157

K, I know this is technically a little off topic, since neither of them are being released in 2011, but still.

Tobey Maguire is the only Peter Parker there will ever be.

That Smurfs movie... Papa Smurf sounds like Bill from Left 4 Dead.

One movie I'm actually looking forward to is 30 Minutes or Less:

  • #164

oh, another Chipmunks movie. you think they'll actually sing something original, or just more squeaky covers? :/
  • #165

Of course not :/
  • #166

saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes on Saturday. I really enjoyed it, it was very well written and it kept my attention throughout the whole thing. :)
  • #167

Not coming out until January 20th, but it looks really exciting.

I love war movies, especially ones that feature air combat.

Oh Hell yes, the Tuskegee Airmen. I am going to watch the fuck out of that movie.

But since it's by Lucasfilms, I fear they'll add Jar Jar Binks / anachronistic racial stereotypes.

As someone who prides himself on being a WWII buff, I am ashamed that I never heard of them until now.

Look on the bright side because it could be a hell of a lot worse, if it were done by Michael Bay there would be watermelons or grape juice painted on the planes ;)

It actually looks like it has a lot of the positive aspects from Star Wars IV but with computer graphics that don't detract from the aesthetic charms of the original (since this is the original).

Also, you probably haven't heard of them because you are a racist and the history of African Americans does not interest you. :D
  • #171

but you know people will be arguing who shot first, the black man or the german, for years from now :P

lol I can actually empathize with them because no one south of the border has ever heard of Canadians in the war either :D

I agree, Chewy, Rise was pretty great. The only issue I had with it was the fact that it had two major time skips within the first half hour of the film. That's just poor movie etiquette!
  • #173

So after seeing the trailer for Sucker Punch, the girlfriend wanted to it because of the whole "in an asylum" setting because she's into those kinda of flicks. I begrudgingly rented from Zune on a 360 and we watched it. Never saw it before and I did not care for it. I found it be to be really "meh" throughout the whole thing.

You got that right. I could normally overlook something like that near the end, not the damn beginning!

Sucker Punch is nothing more than Snyder's wet dream in viewable form. There plot is all over the place and so is the editing. There is no real reason to care about any of the characters, who are nothing more than strippers with guns. The only saving grace of the movie was the special effects and composition of each frame, which is pretty much the only thing Snyder really knows how to do when it comes to directing. As a writer, Snyder falls way short and his concept is a tired one which has been done much better by several other directors before him. Those who defend the film usually liken it to a female-driven version of Inception meant to empower the gender. Those people are idiots.

I like 30 Minutes or Less..
I saw it last week.

It's like every alien Movie has used the same CGI on the aliens?

Cowboys and Aliens, Captain America and True Grit. I like movies that mix the past with sci-fi shit.

Spoiler

correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't war horses in WW1 one of the most obsolete forms of combat for trench warfare? would they not get stuck in the mud worse than infantry and present a bigger target for German gunners? I can see this being more about a man's throbbing hard-on for a horse than about some silly war going on in the background. It'll be like Paschendale, only there will be a horse instead of a half-assed love interest :smirk:
  • #187

Huh. I didn't know Spielberg was making a movie adaptation of the play.

Horses were an essential part of combat in WW1 for the fast movement of men, guns and information. A horse can make it through very difficult terrain faster then a man ever could and keep going through it for longer.

Just saw the new Muppets Movie. I quite enjoyed it and the movie had a nice flow to it (at 2 hours, it felt short because time just flew by. gotta love a movie that doesn't have any lulls or dead spots). The humour was good without being overly corny. There were also a lot of celebrity cameos, either as themselves or as actual characters, halfway through the movie I found myself playing "spot the celebrity".

I loved the Muppets. My sister was too young to have grown up with them outside of Seasame Street, but she fell in love with these "new muppets". I agree that the humor was good without being overly corny. And it was great seeing more obscure Muppets in bigger roles, such as Uncle Deadly as the bad guy's sidekick, or Lew Zealand actually having speaking lines and being incredibly important to the finding of a "celebrity host"

I went with a couple of my friends on Christmas to watch Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. I thought it was pretty interesting. Too many explosions for my liking, but it was still a neat story with likable characters. I want to check out the first film now.
  • #194

My sister got me Super for Christmas, though I didn't know it had already come out in 2010. I quite enjoyed it, but my feelings are a little mixed about it.

My friends invited me to see The Adventures of Tintin on the 23rd, but I just couldn't bring myself to go see it, I just had a really bad feeling about it... I mean, from what I'd seen they seemed to have gotten Tintin and the Thompsons right, but Captain Haddock was what I was worried about; he was the shit in the cartoon show. Fucking up his character would have ruined the whole thing for me, so I pussed out. Anyone seen it? Is it good? Bad? Is it true enough to the source material? Did they fuck up Captain Haddock!? I don't see David Fox reprising his role as him!
  • #195

I heard it was great, and that he was done well.
  • #196

Anything new in the movie world? There's gotta be something that caught your interest recently.

I recently came across one that was kinda hard for me to describe. Called the FP, it's an odd B-movie-ish satire that has an old 80s vibe. "Gangs" duke out out in the form of DDR matches to gain dominance over the local area. What I liked is that the movie treats a lot of silly subjects so seriously, and...well, if it comes out on DVD, it's best to see it with a group of friends who have nothing else to watch on a Friday night.

  • #197

Transformers 3 was meh. :/
Haven't seen Cars 2 yet.
I have seen the Original "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and loved it.
I have also watched that Rubber movie Kaxbe...it was so confusing and stupid it made a part of my brain die.
I've also seen "In Time" and "Immortal" both were pretty decent. I can't remember what other movies I've seen recently. :O
  • #198

I saw Redtails when it came out earlier this year. It was crappy. This video review by Red Letter Media sums it up nicely.
