2012 films

Mark Ruffalo was awesome. I love the contrast between his extremely mild-mannered Bruce and the Hulk, as well as how uncomfortable Bruce is discussing his Hulk powers. It's awesome.

I have to see this movie...

I don't really plan on seeing many movies, but there's one that I personally think looks so bizarre that I don't care what people say, I'm going to see it, if only to find out it sucks and laugh at it, or to find out it's decent and enjoy is somewhat.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

It's pretty much just blood, blood and more blood to my knowledge so far. Although I really, REALLY despise copious amounts of violence and gore, I'm intrigued *Shrugs*

I have no idea why though. I usually just not bother with these kinds of movies at all :/
  • #253

I saw The Avengers yesterday. It was as awesome as people kept telling me it was :) Every scene with the Hulk was my favourite scene :D

what the fuck? I don't even... fuck, I'd watch it.

Movie I desperately wanted to see was Iron Sky. But surprisingly a film about Sara Palin vs Nazis from the dark side of the moon is not playing anywhere in the US. ._.

Just watch Men in Black 3 on Saturday and to be honest, it was actually better than the sequel (which, in my opinion, was a complete downer).

I'm impress with the pacing of the movie and it had some touching moments, especially near the end. ._.

Overall, the best of the MiB series yet. :D

i actually prefer the second one over the new one. I felt like they downplayed the laughs from the first and second ones.
  • #259

If they make one more teary-eyed Nine Eleven movie my diseased intestines are going to prolapse out of my mouth and anus, drag me to Hollywood and strangle that raging pussy Tom Hanks. There will be no evidence of his murder because the feces they find him covered in won't be distinguishable from the feces he produces every time he stands in front of a camera.

I rented The Grey and Goon yesterday.

I enjoyed The Grey well enough, I love survival movies and the wolves were surprisingly unpredictable. There was a lot of tension between some of the characters that I liked and there was a lot of excitement to be had as they were constantly being preyed upon by wolves. Here's the movie in a nutshell:
Spoiler

I really liked Goon, it was fun to watch a low-IQ Seann William Scott beat the living crap out of people. The low intelligence thing bugged me a little because I'm used to his character from American Pie, seeing him a little quicker on the uptake in general and for hurling insults. His character felt a little like Forrest Gump at times, but whatever, I really enjoyed it. :)

Just saw Snow White and the Huntsman, and over all I thought it was really good. Character interactions felt real, the look and feel of it was amazing and it was able to work in bits from the original story and the Disney classic while still feeling like it's own movie and being great in it's own right. That being said, the only part where it has it's downfall is some of the acting but tnat could just be personal taste. There was some under-acting (Kristen Stewart but no one expected great things from her) and some of the most hammy acting I have ever seen out of Theron that was pretty fantastic, I mean it wasn't terrible or too distracting but at some points it kinda took you out of the movie.

Story wise I think where this movie is strongest is what it does with the story elements. While turning fairy tales on their head is a popular thing to do now this movie does it in a subtle way where it isn't throwing what they are doing in your face and saying "ha ha look at us making a subversion", but you notice it. Mostly this is seen in
Spoiler

Overall I say give the movie a watch, i've heard complaints that the action scenes feel disjointed but I didn't notice anything or that it's over long and yeah afterwards you've realized that you've been there for over 2 hours but you don't during the movie.

Men in Black 3 wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Boris the Animal was cool.
  • #263

The mere fact that MIB3 exists is like a symptom of a malignant cancer - just knowing about it makes every moment of my life have a bitter, nauseating aftertaste. >:(
  • #264

I just saw the muppets last night. Was not disappointed. So many celebrity appearances. My favorite was when Dave Grohl appeared in the background as a shoddy knock-off of Animal.

Actually from what I heard MIB 3 is, while not as good as the first, a far cry better than the second.

fuk u, i loved the second one/
  • #267

Cause the second one had Michael Jackson

It looks interesting, especially since they have actual video game characters in it. I think I'd see it just for Jane Lynch one-liners and to play "spot-the-game".

It looks like it could be quite funny, but personally I don't think it would be as fun if it played on game/gamer cliches/stereotypes too much. And yes, I know I'm talking about seeing a kid's movie.

I really hope that movie does not suck.
  • #270

This is quite different for Disney, since most of the time, they loosely adapt certain fairy tale stories.

Still, this looks quite good and I like the nods to most of the video game references out there. 8-D
  • #271

Wow, I like how that movie seems. Hope it doesn't suck either.
  • #272

The more obscure the reference the harder my penis will become.

I will fuck the Hope Diamond.
  • #273

Avenger in 3d was worth it.. I think that it's the best marvel movie this year.
  • #274

just saw "Brave". it's okay for what it is, a fairy tale. i prefer PIXAR's other movies. like, i really enjoyed "Ratatouille". this wasn't your usual PIXAR film. this was a fucking Disney fluff.

I've been hearing that, while Brave isn't as good as most Pixar films, it's a large step over Cars 2. At least Pixar didn't dig themselves deeper into that ditch.
  • #278

I've seen the Brave trailers and got a feeling that they were showing more than they should, like how some movie trailers ruin what should be a surprise for the audience. Was there anything like that, like with her befriending a black bear? I think I'll check it out when it gets to the cheap theatre.
  • #279

nah, Chewey, i didn't think that they showed more than they should've in the trailers.

  • #281

At first, I thought "that looks pretty cool", but then... that voice, that face *gasp* CHRISTOPH WALTZ 8-D Loved him in Inglourious Basterds. Definitely seeing this when it comes out :)
  • #282

I've seen The Avengers twice now, I absolutely love it
as many of you said, I really liked every scene with Bruce, but my favourites will always be Agent Coulson (Son of Coul, if you've seen Thor) and Tony.
Anyway, it was pretty much my favourite movie of all time!

Just got from watching Ted and it was actually quite funny (even though the humor can be quite vulgar at times). Overall, it wasn't bad to begin with.

that movie actually looks kinda interesting. can't wait to watch it.
  • #286

Brave isn't very good. The problem is that it is soulless - they basically were like "Okay, we need to make a fairy tale movie, and it needs to be starring a female protagonist." And then they failed to actually make it a story worth telling or listening to or watching. Its doubly ironic because they talk about how legends contain truths, but the movie contains nothing of the sort. Its just a mess.

It looks very pretty though.

Looks like Pixar will be headed for three consecutive years of mediocre to bad films (Cars 2, Brave, Monsters University).
  • #287

Brave's story has been told a thousand times before, and PIXAR didn't really do much to make their telling of it stand out. it's really stupid that they put Newt on hold to make this movie, because now they don't have the full team to work on it.
  • #288

It also didn't help they ditched the original director.
I am not sure why exactly, but that is never a good thing.

This isn't necessarily true. Usually directors are replaced for a good reason, as it isn't something to be done casually. Apparently Bolt's original director got canned because the movie as envisioned by them completely sucked.

The truth is that the movie didn't suck because of the director. It sucked because the story itself was a bad one.

i just got back from watching The Amazing Spider-man. i like it way more than the Toby Maguire movie. i really like how they handled the origin and i liked Andrew Garfield's portrayal of Peter.

What a coincidence, I just got back from it too and have the same opinion about the casting for the protagonist, I even prefer this Uncle Ben and Aunt May. The origin part was a lot more interesting and better explained. Even as Spider-man he was a lot more personable and was spouting less annoying quips than I expected. However there were quite a few plot-holes and it was about as corny as one would expect, and I just could not stand the love interest because she was the least realistic of the bunch
Spoiler

The action sequences were fast and pretty cool. Stan Lee's cameo was funny, as opposed to feeling shoe-horned in there in previous movies.
Personally, I thought it was a good movie, just not all that impressive. The CGI wasn't much to get excited about either.

yeah, i feel they could've done a better job with the villain overall, maybe chosen a villain that's better known than Lizard, but i guess that's hard to do when your main competition isn't other recent superhero movies, but rather a different version of the same story from ten years ago.

and i'll agree that Emma Stone does look a tad too mature for her role, considering this is a superhero movie and not a coming-of-age high school clique movie like she's usually in.

I got an email from Amazon saying that Brave was coming out on DVD/Bluray on July 20th, that seemed pretty early so I looked up the movie premiere date and the first showing was on the June 10th. Is this a new thing a missed that movies come out on DVD/Bluray sooner, or was it really just that bad? I read the comments you guys made about it, but I don't really ever remember a Pixar movie that flopped that hard. Sure, there was Cars 2, but that seemed to last a lot longer than Brave.

I watched The Adventures of Tintin only a matter of days ago. While it was unlike the comic books in several ways, it really stood out in its own right. It surprised me and elated me, entertained me and hooked me. And then, at the climax, came the chase scene through a North African city.

I am happy and content with this film, despite the occasional weak spot (such as happened with the Nightingale of Milano's appearance), and I would most certainly watch it again and again. ^_^

it wasn't extremely bad or anything. just mediocre considering what we've come to expect from PIXAR. i feel PIXAR could've done a better job with it, honestly.

and from what i'm seeing, the movie is getting a September/October DVD release.

The trailer should put in a little more time for the "The Robot is My Friend" angle. It's nice.

Curiosity got the best of us, my girlfriend and I went to the cheapy theatres to see That's My Boy. People were right, there weren't a hell of a lot of jokes in this movie, sure there were moments where I chuckled or giggled, but not once did I laugh out of legitimate amusement. Most of the "humour" was along the lines of "oh I hope the audience notices this and laughs". It was disappointing because I liked the plot. Oh well.
