Shooting in Tuscon, Arizona

Just wondering what you all (especially the American readers) think about the recent shooting of Arizona representative Gabrielle Giffords and 20+ others...
http://www.salon.com...bio_background/
I'm hearing all kinds of crazy theories regarding what provoked the gunman Jared Loughner, such as the "targets" used to demonstrate threats to gun rights by Palin. I'm no fan of her, but I highly doubt it was to provoke that kind of response.

Bloggers blame Palin and Tea Party: http://www.weeklysta...P/TWSFPView.asp
What do you guys think?

Throw a dart and pick the representative closest to the dart?

Obviously it's some ridiculous plot involving obscure mathematical theorems.

Why would you ever read the weekly standard?

Not Helping | BLURBOMAT this seems more useful.

I don't. It's just a pull from a google search--felt like I needed another source.

Attributing the actions of an individual to any number of sources, whatever their potential influence, is absurd in the extreme. The act does not seem to have been rational; why should the explanation for it be?

People were killed. Either you sympathize with the general human condition and feel sorrow, or you don't. To try and cage this event, the factors that may have contributed to it, and its effects inside the political sphere is inane and monstrous.

Because people have to have something to blame. It's pretty much how society works, especially when they themselves are to blame, then they have to find something else to pin the blame on.

I'm not religious but i hope the Rep. Giffords and the other 14 injured people are able to recover. Rep. will be permanently handicapped and incapable of speech. for the six that died it's heartbreaking. It hit close to home because of how he could have killed a 9 year old girl, name a child of hope after being born on 9/11. the agony of human interaction.

The question was rhetorical.

Rationale that prescribes to the idea that the normal, popular response has validity is a slippery slope and, coincidentally, tends to function as pretty lame excuse. Of course people want to placate themselves. That doesn't mean no one should point out how absurd and grotesque their methodology is; you have to tell people that they are being idiotic. How else are they going to know?

Who woulda thought most people who post in political topics on webcomic forums are teenage know-nothings with lame philosophical points to prove

I guess it takes more than one politically-themed bcb chapter to promote more politically savvy and competent fans.

My condolences to the victims of this tragedy.

Arrest all politicians for rabble rousing.

Vote Kav to take affirmative action against the menace of bloodthirsty, rabble rousing politicians.

Great, they are already starting to blame this shooting on video games. GOD DAMN YOU AMERICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM, TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO UNDERSTAND CAUSALITY.

I liked it better when they were blaming themselves...

A stunning revelation, I know. However, even the teenage know-nothing is preferable to the aloof individuals who claim some that special intelligence or arrogance inspired indifference entitles them to be derisive and mocking instead of contributing to what could have been a conversation.

ANGRY WORDS MAKE PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE. OH GOD, WE ARE ALL FUCKED.

I suppose no one is going to ask how a gun got into the hand of a shrimp-dicked psychopath again?

Second amendment: a chicken in every pot and a cap in every ass.

Ah, so guns should be a privilege and not a right?

Repeal the Second Amendment. ^_^

Criminals can still get guns when it's against the law to own them. I'm not saying gun control can't ever work, it's just that in America right now it wouldn't be very effective. We don't have the infrastructure to enforce those laws, and at the moment those laws would prevent honest people from owning guns for recreation or self defense.
