BCBcon International 2011: Boston, 7–10 July?

You could make sarcastic remarks, or you could come up with a better idea for something to do while we're there. BITCHES

But I have to agree, went to a see the Braves once, not my thing. I wouldn't go.
  • #101

I'm a little hesitant here. I feel like I should enforce people doing interesting cultural things like this, especially when you're all philistine morons who would actually rather sit in the hotel room and trade Pokemon.

I don't like baseball. I don't know how it works. But I know of Fenway Park, and I know of the Red Sox, and it seems like a good "Boston" thing to do.

Of course, if time is limited and people like mouse have ten other things that are better to do, let's do that. But if the alternative to going to a Red Sox game together is "i dunno go to mcdonalds maybe check out the gamestop" then fuck that, you're all going.
  • #102

But I don't waaaaaaannnaaaaaaaa.

I see your point though. I guess if it comes to either sitting in the hotel room or actually doing something vacationy.

But we should all go drunk.

Just a suggestion.

SuitCase is right: you should at least experience Boston, instead of just sitting around doing something generic. Now you don't have to go to a Red Sox game, but, you know, at least take in some of the history of Boston, or go for a walk in the Commons, or something.
  • #108

I don't care for baseball (been to a few games when I was a kid), but when it comes to these things I find it's more about the interaction between people at the events, not just the event itself. Normally when me and my family go on vacation we don't do much or go to many places around the town, so for once I think it would be nice to get the feel of a city.

And who better to do it with than a bunch of furries and people I've never met before. A closer knit family, I've never heard of.

having been to fenway park and watched a baseball game it is a sport i believe only out-boring'd by golf

i wouldn't say there's a problem with the group splitting up - i was planning on having the older people 21+ going all together to a bar to drink at some point. i don't think we should force anyone to do any activity - if people want to do something else instead (like go to fanuel hall or something), then they should be able to.

Man, it's going to be wierd not being able to drink at this thing, I've been legal here in Quebec over a year now, but down there I'm not going to be for another 2 years.
  • #112

I'm going to need a detailed list of activities and who is going with what groups so that I can plan out my schedule that is based around spending some amount of time with every attendee and spread the love to everyone.

If I don't get a list I will submit a formal complaint to the BCB Con Planning Committee and it will have very strong language.

Also: Should I get a Fake ID even though I don't plan on drinking?

  • #113

Hmmm, I'm not legal to drink yet, but I will be by July...
  • #114

Sorry it took me so long to respond. I have alot going on around that time and wanted to make sure that I would be free.

If the dates of July 8-11 hold then you can put me down as going. Do you know when you will confirm the dates so that I can buy the plane tickets?

One of the drawbacks to it being in Boston is that I will have to fly there so I won't be able to help out on the rooms like I had wanted to.
  • #115

We can go to the Museum of Science, the MIT Museum, the Boston Islands, or we could visit one of the several brewery's they have in Boston.

Found a bar/restaurant called The Black Rose that looks interesting.

I personally to want visit Bunker Hill though. That would be cool.

I'm all in for The Black Rose. 8-)
  • #118

I also approve of the Irish pub and The Islands.

We need to go to Georges Island. There's a ghost there.
And I want to catch her.
  • #119

im going
  • #120

I knew the promise of ghosts would lure the elusive Snooths into joining the gathering. Everything is going according to plan.
  • #121

I don't know if I believe you Snooths.

It is easy to visit the Boston Harbor Islands. Thousands of individuals, families, and groups from the Boston area and around the world visit the islands every season—now it’s your turn. Explore historic sites, watch wildlife, hike, kayak, picnic, fish, swim, camp, and much more.
what the fuck is this who wants to do that
  • #125

Gawd dammit I wanna go to Georges Island, learn about a Civil War Fort Thing and capture that gawd damm ghost on my camera.

We can all tame deers, sneak them back to Boston, then ride them about the city. Also on the boat rides we could all sing a 40-Part Harmony of "I'm On a Boat", oh the possibilities.
  • #126

Barrier islands are always awesome.

at some point soon i'll start taking requests of where people want to go so i can help plan events. i'd really like to go to the MoS cause i haven't been in a year (and it's awesome)
  • #128

Hmmm, Boston oh Boston. Man you have no idea how much I want to go on this trip, but it farther away than I though it would be, not to mention the thought of asking my parents if I can go half way up the East coast to visit a bunch of people from the internet scares the Bejezzus out of me.

BUT there is hope, I might be able to talk my bro into coming with me. This will help me out on transportation and "protection" as my parents will insist on. It would probably be better to change me to the possibly probable list with everyone. I'll see what kind of magic I can work.

did you know Andrew Hussie lives in boston
we should meet him
  • #134

I think I'm back to possibly probable. My mom is being kind of paranoid about "internet people" because Oh my god you can't see there face that changes everything! she want's me to bring my cousin which I don't feel comfortable doing. That'd just be kinda awkward. My dad will agree with my mom on everything she say's since he's about as much of a newfag to the internet than an old woman. I don't know, she'll probably be completely opposed to this once she reads the first post.

So mom! Since your reading this and I know you are because I know you googled "BCBcon" after I told you the name, consider the fact that I'm fucking 18 and that holding me back this year will not prevent me from going to any future one's. Seriously I'll be fine.
  • #135

Closet Lucy: Every single post on this forum might actually be written by Taeshi, who is a guy, and did all of this so he could lure you to boston to rape you. You mom's concerns are totally valid. Even this post is just an effort to throw you off, because I know you won't believe it ;)
  • #136

No she just thinks there will be ONE person in the group who will rape me. I don't know, I guess her theory is: "Now matter how large the group you meet with is, at least one will be a rapist." So I guess if there were like...2 people I met up with, the other guy would be a rapist? That's her logic even though she'd deny it.
  • #137

My issue is that I might not have my license when the con starts and leaving my mom cause she is a very caring parent though like u closet she doesn't like the idea of me going to a place far away to meet people from the Internet. All I know is if I do go and we have to share rooms, Dibs on the floor with 2 pillows Ha!

Steady Closet... your mom obviously loves you and cares about you (I know you know this). I'd guess she's looking out for you.

I bet it's a pain in the ass to convince her that you can handle yourself... but please do appreciate the fact that she cares. God knows, I've got a parent who just fucked off and forgot about me. (fortunately my mother does care).

No offence at all - you're a cool guy and I like talking with you. Just please remember that a parent's love is one of the best things ever. #^_^#

(I should really not post here because you all know I can't go)
  • #139

Now, WHO'S THE RAPIST?

Haha I told my dad about this when it was still iffy and he was instantly cool with it, especially since I'll be bringing the boyfriend along. Weeks go by and....
I finally get around to telling my mom who goes into mom mode of WHAT IF THEY RAPE YOU?! Haha, but after talking more and explaining stuff she's pretty okay with it as well.
  • #140

I asked this earlier but didn't seem too get an answer, Will their be BCBcons in future years?

Nothing would be stopping them Mikanda, but many people can only do this once in a while (Tae lives in Australia for example).
  • #142

So are those plans solid?
  • #143

SuitCase did any of those ideas sound good?
  • #144

They're sounding like they are, nameless.

I like the idea of museums, whatever, sounds neat. Are these dates good, then? The only thing that might change them is if I discover it's massively useful to someone for it to be a few days earlier or later, or if hotel prices are significantly different depending on the days.

There was some person who would prefer it to be Thur-Sun or something and I told them to post in this thread, but they didn't.

Edit: Oh, that was closetlucy. Well, sounds like he might not be coming. But if we were to change the dates, what do you think? The point of picking Fri-Mon means that those of you with school or work can be there 3 out of the 4 days, if you're able to get one off, and getting a longer weekend is probably easier than arbitrary other days??
  • #145

Suit I did post that in this thread....Twice ._.

  • #148

Every summer from July 1st-July 5th/6th I'm on vacation to visit family I only ever see then so if we could avoid those days as much as possible that'd be awesome  . Any days other than that I'm set for.
  • #149
