BCBcon International 2011: Boston, 7–10 July?

I like the idea of museums, whatever, sounds neat. Are these dates good, then? The only thing that might change them is if I discover it's massively useful to someone for it to be a few days earlier or later, or if hotel prices are significantly different depending on the days.

There was some person who would prefer it to be Thur-Sun or something and I told them to post in this thread, but they didn't.

Edit: Oh, that was closetlucy. Well, sounds like he might not be coming. But if we were to change the dates, what do you think? The point of picking Fri-Mon means that those of you with school or work can be there 3 out of the 4 days, if you're able to get one off, and getting a longer weekend is probably easier than arbitrary other days??


Really the only difference as far as I'm concerned is whether it is cheaper to fly out on a sunday or a monday. It'd be nice to get the dates confirmed so I can make the appropriate reservations.

Well, we booked our tickets to the US today. Leave on the 24th of June, return on the 17th of July.

I've missed a bit in my absence. Anyway..muahahaah I can get that much saved up in a few days....my only problem is getting there, which really seems possible, since I have about three other friends who live freaking down the street and read the comic and shit. So all I gotta do is tell 'em hey wanna go to Boston? And they'll be like Sure!!

Edit: If Boston is the pick of course, any other place would suit me fine as well, I would like to see NYC as well.

Has anyone booked tickets or made permanent commitments? Is there any interest in changing the dates to 24-27 June, or shifting it back a day from 7-10 July based on Spacemouse's new commitment?

How many of you are completely free, and how many of you are limited to either the date in the topic title or one of the dates I just mentioned?

I like the dates in term of the weekend (thursday - sunday) because i can plan my days off better. Irregardless of the week before or after is fine for me.

If it all ends on a Monday, i'll be cutting it close on getting back in time for work, but if it ends on Sunday, i should have plenty of time to make it back

Easier to take a friday and a monday off then a thursday friday (potentially monday) off work.

But i digress, If i have to do it then I will.

With everything this far in advance, work can easily be managed to swing the required days off. Thursday to Sunday would be preferable, though, although that's just a personal stand.

As a general question; what of people who can not attend all four days? I may not be able to and want to know what might the situation be for those people. I'm more than willing to pay my way for four days though, even if I can't make all of them.

I would assume some people will stay longer on a sunday then they would on a monday. Could be just my hopefullness though.

So we've got the date set in stone it seems, for the most part anyway. Now where exactly in Boston do we meet, because a city is a big place.

Also June or July, which was the decision?

I am actually fine with either date. June would work better since there is a con I wanted to go to on July 8-10. But if I have to choose between the two I choose BCBcon. But we need to set a date soon. The closer we get to the actual date the more expensive plane tickets will get.

It's pretty early to book domestic flights. Most of the budget carriers don't even let you book that far in advance.

from a logistics standpoint:
would people be arriving early or late in the day thursday? what about sunday?

what kind of hotels are we looking at? where in boston? how many cars will we have? (i have one, sits 4 other people legally)

Unless you're talking about transportation into or out of the city, cars shouldn't really be a consideration.

Boston traffic sucks and looking for parking at the sort of venues the group would likely be visiting will be tedious, expensive, or impossible. As long as people are willing to pony up the $2.00 per trip for public transportation, that's your best bet by far.
