Akacatgirl's Art Thread

I like your style it looks very Disney like and it's nostalgic to look at your art. i'd animate that shit. the emotions page was good. you should totally make a comic.

Thanks! When I was looking for a newish style of eyes, I actually did look at some Disney eyes (how big they are, how to fit into the head, proportion to the other face features, etc etc.).
As for the comic, I tried that about 2 years ago(about the time of the start of this thread), and it didn't work out very well. If I do want to make a comic, I want to take my time and plan it out. I tend to rush on these type of the things. I also need to really perfect my skills and find a good style.

A lot of you probably have heard of a contest called "Doodle4Google". My out of school school art teacher made me do a entry (a week right before the due date), so here it is. I picked the easiest thing I could think of since this is my first time entering. By the way, it looked a LOT better before I added the background.
If you guys didn't know the theme this year for the contest is "If I could travel in time, I'd travel to..."

The "L" made me laugh. For future reference, to get a good effect on wings as on the "E", overlap loads of colours in one shape, so in this case oranges and browns: this'll give it the effect of layered feathers.

For that feathered effect on the wings, do you think I could still fix that? I could back over it with the oranges and browns. Glad you like it, Sammy! Thanks for the feedback!

Holy balls, I want to see this on Google

Also while I'm at it I'll just quickly let you know that in that earlier sketch the feet should be pointing right unless that girl has oddly bent legs.

I'll remember that; I don't really think I'll try to fix that sketch because I don't think I'm gonna ink it. Thanks for the feedback! (again)

Oh yeah, she does looks like Lisa Simpson! Daisy could totally play the saxophone. :smirk:

Now both feet are pointing to the side when the other should be sort of halfway forward if you get what I mean?

Maybe you should try drawing feet from all possible angles to figure out how they work? :3

Edit:
Otherwise I approve of this Daisy :D

Augghhhh not again! Since this is about the third time I've done this, I'll take your advice and try sketching some feet and legs out. I'll post them here so you/anybody can make sure they look right. I'll use those sketches as a reference later on.
Again, thank you so much for the advice! I'm glad you approve otherwise.

I've always felt like Lucy had a big forehead, but I do feel it's rather large in this. I'll remember not to make it so large next time. Thank you!

Very nice, although the foreheads are still a bit on the large side: just size up the eyes and nose slightly and move them up and it'll be fine.
  • #675

Maybe (on the green) we are seeing the fronts of the ears and that is causing it to look bigger than usual?

Would it be possible to see your next work with/without cat-ears?

Also, draw moar huu-mans. I like your humans.

I'll work on making the head more proportionate, however, for the brown cat, I'd like to keep his forehead large. I kind of think it makes him look cool. Thanks for the advice!

That's probably why. The ears are rather large.
I'll see what I can do. I can draw some moar huu-mans. Any particular humans you had in mind? ( hair, body shape, etc.)

Oh jeez, I missed you by a few minutes while I went off to make dinner. (and then got sidetracked)

Yeah, I see this 'extended' skull thing on BCB characters too. These three icons have it to an extent. >:( :smirk: It can look pretty bad if you're not careful a bout shading.

Oh oh, huu-mans eh, uhm, about 'yay'<---> tall, pretty hair color, and probably trapezoidal bodyshape. YEAH. 8-)

Just draw someone you can see out your window or something I really do not mind. I just want you to practice/practice/try something new/practice.

You guys can ask questions if you want to. Or not. The answers will probably not be as sloppy as the first one I did. I guess you can look forward to that.
I may also start a comic series ( would be posted on the tumblr) called "Lame As an Artist". I have a couple ideas for it, so I may do that. It could be cool.

One thing to note, you keep drawing the faces in a 3/4ths kind of perspective view, however the way you draw the eyes look to be exactly the same size. It's kind of freaky, but there would be enough curvature from the nose to obscure one of the eyes a bit and it should be smaller since it's more away from the camera. I think it looks most clear on the green guy, just something to consider!

You're right! They did seem a bit odd when I was drawing them, but I couldn't figure it out. It makes much sense now. I'll remember that for the next time I draw a 3/4ths view. Thank you so much for the help, Taeshi! I really appreciate it. #^_^#
I also realized that I never pointed out those characters were Paulo, Lucy, and Mike. I also forgot Mike's scarf. :/
Here's an updated version; I tried to fix their eyes and I added a scarf.

I posted both presents on my tumblr blog (http://lameasanartist.tumblr.com/).
It may be a bit hard to see on there, so I just put a spoiler on here too.
However, on the blog there's an explanation.
So there.

To also known as, you are drawing the face always in the same angle and direction. From now on until you get used to it, draw each character's head in a different direction.
