How long ago did the first lot of BCI letter ship? More than two weeks yet?
  • #203

Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to get "gold and shiny" on the forum after you've paid? :3
  • #204

Soon as you get your letter. Took about a week and a half to get mine.

Ah, so there's some kind of code or so you have to fill in?
Thanks :)

Out of curiosity, what country was that? I suspect I might have a looooong wait ahead of me XD.
  • #206

I live in England, i only had to wait about 3 days, and then 1 day after typing all the stuff in to go all gold and shiny

Mine finally arrived. All is well.

Sushi, I'd give it a month before declaring it a lost cause. (we shipped the first batch around the 25th) Two months if you live in a shit country. Spacemouse was in the first batch to go out and only just received his, so...

Hopefully it'll be back by the time I get back from Berlin, or I'll give Royal Mail a ring and ask 'em what's wrong.
  • #212

WEll, yesterday I was talking to a friend of mine about the BCI. And she said: "Man, you have read about 100 pages of comic or more, and you are not willing to become member and help the author?".

....I hate when someone proves me that I was wrong :( . So yeah, Im going to become member of BCI.

Still, I will buy the comic book when it is ready ;).

Royal mail isn't the most trustworthy... Which is annoying >:(

Yeah, I know. Of course, this is assuming it was sent via the Royal Mail once it arrived in England. I don't really know. I'm just gonna with what Suit said, and give it until the end of Feb, then start making a paper trail.

There's no reason you shouldn't have it Sushi, I've had mine for what, about 2 weeks now? And I'm in the middle of no-where. Are you sure it hasn't been chucked by accident, thinking it's junk mail?

(And I'd imagine it comes through Royal Mail, mine did.)

Nope, it hasn't been chucked. I'm always first home, so I always see the mail. And on the only time that I haven't the past month, I've asked the folks if they've tossed any odd-looking letters. Odd to them, anyway. So far, zilch out of the ordinary.

If that's a possibility, you'd better tell her there's a letter coming to you. If you haven't done that already, of course. :)

Well nothing like a business letter has arrived, but maybe it's come while I've been away. I'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

I want it here.

Not meaning to necro (nor nag) but I was wondering. About how long after you purchase your BCI membership do you get to use it? I mean, do you have to wait for the card to arrive, or will an email be sent out? I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, I didn't see it but I'm practically blind when it comes to finding things.

Yeah, I refreshed the page and saw that you have to wait for the letter. At least now I'm glad I ordered the year membership vs the monthly. Thanks Sush.

SEE, I WIN IN ALL OF THIS.

To be honest, I think I've put myself into risk. Because people will be getting content they can spread.. so it's a case of trusting people and really hoping that they don't send future content around oh god

also souppy has given me work THANKS A LOT SOUPPY

so to be kind of honest i'm not really gonna be sitting around eating all the money :-[

I tried looking, but couldn't find an answer. Are yearly memberships renewed automatically, or does that have to be done manually once the subscription ends?

EDIT: I think I just answered my own question. I take it yearly memberships are done with a single one-time payment through the Paypal system. -.-;

Yes. We have no authorisation to bill you again, and will email to ask you to make another purchase when the time comes.

I can’t help but feel that the whole BCI member club thing with it’s yearly fee is creating a wide disparity among readers.
I’ve seen a couple of times where someone asked the source or context of a joke, and the response were basically “lol BCI members only”.
It’s indirectly creating a almost circlejerk-like behavior, and thus creating unneeded hostility and bad atmosphere.

Also Suitcase should REALLY get some sensitivity training, since his general attitude at times can be compared to brushing your hair with a glowing red-hot cheese grater.
And as one can guess, that further fosters the negative emotions that’s been increasing ESPECIALLY as of lately.
Seems almost like he’s stuck up on a high horse and incapable of “sensing” other people’s stance on things and subjects.

Things are honestly about to get out of hand, and banning doesn’t solve the problem apparently.
Instead it adds fuel to the next flame-storm, so a alternative approach seems to be needed.

I wish I had something positive to say, but those things seems to cause so much unneeded trouble I can’t help but feel profoundly irritated by it, and it’s only getting worse and worse.

Re: BCI

I've found that the chapter that people most like making jokes about are Disaster Dominoes, which has been visible at http://e621.net/post...saster_dominoes for a long time. The only three comics that have ever been exclusive to BCI members are "Dinner Time", "Accidents Will Happen" and "Mostly Harmless". Everything else was previously publicly posted as a vote incentive, and for those who downloaded them at a time we've never had a problem with them being shared on sites external to our own. And it seems people do?

Even if you don't accept that most people don't type the chapter names into Google and find them, I think it's a reach to say that a few people going "lol remember when LUCY killed HERSELF??" creates a "wide disparity among readers". When designing BCI (and revising it earlier this year) I was very careful to create something that appealed to superfans without making the site worse for regular readers. There are no chapters posted in advance, there is no secret forum where discussion of anything other than exclusive comic content takes place, and the sparkly name is so innocuous a benefit that the only thing I see people occasionally saying is "Oh, that looks cool, I wish I had BCI".

Re: me and wider negative attitudes

I do have trouble empathising with other people when I feel differently to them. But I am not sure what you mean when you talk about things "about to get out of hand". Are you referring to the ban-dodging guy who keeps posting links to the Bad Webcomics Wiki article? Because I'm pretty sure that's one guy. Beyond this, I haven't seen any real negativity except for specific unrelated issues like "I hate Thanatos!" and "I hate that you are posting a prologue chapter!" Neither relate to Veronica or myself, as far as I'm aware.

Can you expand on what you think is becoming a problem? Do you still think BCI is a terrible programme given my assessment\explanation above?

I was clueless about some of the pictures and stuff but I dident let it bother me. suitcase just keep doing what your doing. You know the saying you can please some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time.

The BCI was created mainly for a way for Tae and Suit to earn money, and in return, they create BCI only content in exchange.
BCI content do not affect the main story, and you can enjoy the comic without the BCI content. It is designed for fans of the comic who are willing to offer more to get more.

Really? Anil Dash wrote about the site I run?!

Oh. How disappointing.

Please respond. Don't just google up random articles you half-read and couldn't be bothered to synthesise. You claimed that BCI was "creating unneeded hostility and bad atmosphere", and I solidly rebut it.
  • #236

People are still going on about this...?

Paying for a members only section of a forum isn't anything new. Hell, if I want to join my professional society officially I need to cough up three hundred bucks. Not bloody likely. And if you think these rules are harsh, you should take a peek at the Elitist Jerks (For World of Warcraft) forum. You can be banned for making too many spelling mistakes.

I actually signed up because I read all the comic in about a week and wanted to read the bonus comics. See, I was all angsty about Mike and Lucy, and was looking for something extra to help pull me through. Turns out Dinner Time was it. I'm a 32 year old man so getting hit by high school drama was a refreshing blast from the past. Everything else was just a lucky bonus ^__^

I signed up for BCI last year. For the current moment i have not renewed. I have not been hasseled by a single person in the entire community, nor do i feel left out because ive declined to renew it.

BCI should be seen as an incentive to donate to an artists you like. Its no different then ordering a comission.

I plan on renewing my membership sooner rather then later. But its my choice and thats that.

As for suitcase...yes and no. I wont defend every action he takes because I dont agree with everything. But he is a fair and good person, and i would not consider him to be a ditraction to the community. He has spent countless hours upgrading the website, and has helped many of the community members with personal issues well beyond what the normal call of duty. If you actually spend some time and actually speak to someone instead of hearsay or reading logs, you will be surpised to what you find.

You dont have to be his best friend, and he might think your an idiot. It is what is it, and you have so many other people in the community beyond suitcase to interact with. Some days i think hes an ass, some days he makes me laugh. It works for me, and i think he is content with himself as well.
