Yep yep yep. This was stated previously in the old forum, but I see no problem with bringing it up again. From what I gather, this was definitely done earlier, but Taeshi had no idea of this movie's existence when the comic was made.
On a similar note, I'm learning the ukulele song at the end credits.

I guess it could've been a complete coincidence. I don't know enough about the circumstances to tell either way.

The pink bow is what really sells it for me. Also, look at the white cat's face - you see the fur that droops off to the sides slightly? That's exactly like current BCB lucy.

First of all, I LOVE the movie. It's great, and I don't mind watching it multiple times.
As for the similarities - I believe it's a coincidence. I vaguely remember this movie and BCB being brought up before. Let's face it - do Lucy and Mike look that original? Of course not. There are tons of white cats and tons of grey cats, and I'm sure many cat characters with the occasional bows or scarves or what have you. But that doesn't matter because it's not their looks, but personality that gives Lucy and Mike their character. At the same time, it makes it easier to relate and totally feel for them in some ways since the way they look or their personalities aren't over the top. ANYWAY, my point is that it's hard to say that anything, especially art/character wise, is truly original these days anyway. Hell my characters aren't original. I'm actually pretty glad though that Taeshi doesn't bother with sparkledogs/cats/etc in her comics.

I fail to see how the Prince carries any resemblance to Michael at all. I mean, Michael is grey (although he has a blue scarf), while the Prince is blue, and his eyes are heterochromatic. The only similarity I see, is that he is portrayed as genuinely kind, and also that he is in love with a white cat. ^_^
