Siren oh hey look, i wrote another story today.
________
Siren
It was lunch time and everyone was at the table talking and laughing. Everyone was there, Mike, Paulo, David, Abbey, Daisy, Lucy, Tess, and even Sandy was there. Mike looked around, everyone else around them were just faceless shadows. Looking back he noticed especially that Lucy was also faceless, Just a cynical smile where her face would be. An explosion went off, blowing up the table and launching everyone away. As the dust settled most everyone had gotten up shaken but not harmed. Mike looked around. Lucy was gone, nowhere to be seen.
“Lucy!” mike cried out. No response. Mike ran up to Sandy, grabbing her by the shoulders and spinning her around.
“Sandy, are you ok?”
It wasn’t her. It was a mannequin. It fell apart in his arms. In horror he ran over to Daisy.
“Daisy!” she too was a mannequin. But as he looked at her face blood started flowing from her eyes. Taking a step back he stepped in liquid. It too was blood. And there he was, alone, in a sea of red. Boney arms reached up out from the ground below him, grabbing onto his ankle and waist. He tried to release himself but to no avail. The arms started pulling him down. He was sinking into the floor, more arms coming up and grabbing him at each inch he sank. Mike screamed as blood started covering his face, flowing into his lungs. Then everything went black.
Mike woke up in a cold sweat. He was in his cave. Reaching out and feeling against the wall his hand bumped into a gas lamp. Twisting the knob, it turned on as he got up off the soggy stained mattress. It was his birthday. Walking over to the table in the middle of the cave he sat down on the chair beside it. A bottle of wine and a glass lay on the table, a note saying “Happy Birthday” lay in front of him. He remembered that the night earlier he had set all this up. Grabbing just the bottle of wine he got up and walked over to the door of the cave. Light was showing through it, meaning it was daytime. He opened the door looking around. Gunfire and explosions could be heard off in the distance. Taking a swig from the wine he noticed a package lay before him on the ground. It was a rather big package and a note was on top of it. Grabbing it, he headed back inside. Placing the package on the table and sitting back down in the chair, Mike took another swig from the wine bottle. He sat there drinking for the next hour just staring at the package. He reached out for the note and grabbed it. “To Mike” was written on the old stained envelope. Tearing it open a letter was inside
“Dear Mike.
Has it really been 15 years since anyone has last said happy birthday to you? Ha ha, well Happy birthday dude!”
Mike skimmed the rest of the letter, still drinking from the wine. Skipping to the last sentence he continued reading.
“Anyways, everyone is doing fine at our end. Hope you enjoy the birthday present. Took forever to pool the cash to get it for you! Stay safe dude, we don’t want to find your body out there. Paulo”
Tossing the note aside, he grabbed the package. Opening it up, he leaned back in his chair. Tears rolled down his face as he laughed. In his lap laid a shiny new Mk 14 sniper rifle, alongside it a sack which he assumed was ammo. A note was tapped to the scope of the rifle. “It’s loaded, test out a few shots!” placing the rifle and bag on the table he got up and went over to the cabinet across the room. He had wasted too much time as it is, he was running low on supplies and that meant two things. Scavenging or heading off to “Rose”. Opening the cabinet he grabbed the jacket and backpack that hung inside. Getting all dressed up he finished grabbing the rest of his supplies, including his new rifle. He headed out.
(chapter 2)
It was the year 2039. The world had turned into a desert wasteland. Back in 2009 dispute between multiple world leader lead to a world war. Every country attacked each other with bombs and gun fire. Though the war ended five years ago many soldiers remained, fighting. Society broke down the same year that the war started. Many people grouping up to form a local militia, but some becoming loners and scavengers. Recently a new faction showed up. The Raiders, a group a thugs and criminals. Absolute scum of the earth.
Mike was 32 today. A life of pain and sorrow made him strong and ruthless. He had a reputation in Rose. He was a drunkard, getting g himself tossed out many bars. He wasn’t a citizen, but he would spend a lot of time there. And a lot of people could barely tolerate him, but they would allow him to stay. They knew his past, all that he went through. And they respected him for all that he had done.
Mike wasn’t heading to Rose today. He owed a debt at the moment, and fled before the debtor’s thugs could track him down. No, today he would scavenge in foreign territory. Roseville was split up into three major territories in the year 2021. Everyone knew what belonged to whom. The Rose territory, a haven in hell. A safe zone to all that would obey the strict laws. This belonged to Abbey. When the world broke down he took advantage of the situation and became a leader. He was ruthless and merciless when it came to prosecution. All of Mike’s friends lived in Rose. He was happy that they were there under the watchful eye of a great leader.
There was also Raider territory. This bordered Roses wall for 5 years until a scourge on them forced them back a couple miles. This was a death zone to all that wasn’t a part of them. Most could travel through this territory unscathed, but in the recent year it was best not to.
Finally there was The Siren’s Nest. A large portion of the town, which belonged only to one person, The Siren. No one ever went into The Sirens Nest. The rumors about this figure were extreme, but all true.
Mike would be heading into The Sirens Nest, today. It was mostly untouched by anyone. So that meant there was plenty still to be found. It was a stupid course of action, but it would be well worth the effort if he could pull it off.
(chapter 3)
It was noon when Mike showed up on the border of The Sirens Nest. Looking around to make sure no one was around he walked down the street. About an hour into the territory mike saw a figure off in the distance. Dashing behind a destroyed car mike set up his sniper rifle and looked at the figure. It was her. It was The Siren. He ducked behind the car holding the rifle close to his chest.
“Why today?” He groaned.
Slowly poking his head back up, he continued watching her.
The Siren was a mysterious figure. No one knew who she was; they only knew what she looked like. She was small thin person, who at any moment was always wearing a snow white cloak. The siren was un-killable. Many have tried and all have failed. She is known to carry an assortment of weapons, hidden under her cloak. Her shots never missed. She would fire once, and someone would be on the ground, dead or dying. After everyone was on the ground she would walk over to the dying, kneeling down over them and she would sing. She would sing a lullaby quietly into their ear as she plunged a blade deep into their throat. She would do this to everyone who didn’t die initially.
Then there was her pet. She had a falcon. It would fly high above her watching for anybody. All that was known about it was that it was blood red, and when it would swoop down to attack someone, it would leave them cut up, if not, their limbs severed. It didn’t have a name but was always the marker for where the Siren was.
The Siren stood there. Not moving. The falcon stood on her shoulder leaning over into her face. Mike placed his finger over the trigger. The falcon stood up, looking over in mikes direction.
“SHIT!” he yelled as he dashed for cover in the nearby house.
Looking through the curtains he looked back at the siren. She didn’t move. The falcon had stayed on her shoulder but was watching Mike. This confused him. Why had the siren done nothing? He looked on. The strangest thing happened now. She was walking off, in the opposite direction of Mike. After waiting for her to disappear Mike headed out again. He walked up to a convenience store and headed inside. Heading to the back he looked through the assortment of bagged food, grabbing all that he could carry.
Ding. The door bell rang. Mike panicked, squatting down he sneaked across the store. “Had the Siren returned?” He thought, preparing his rifle. He looked down the aisle carefully. It was two other scavengers, one carrying a shot gun, the other, a sub machine gun. They looked around cautiously.
“Do you see him?” says the man with the shot gun.
“no.” says the other man.
“Damn it! And I was so fucking sure he had some decent stuff for us.” He yelled slamming his fist onto the counter top.
Mike lined up his shot, aiming for the first man’s heart.
“wait.” Says the second man, who was out of view.
He fired four rounds off in Mike’s direction, three of them hitting him in the leg. He fell over as he held his hip. He gun fired off. It was loud and startled the first man, who in turn fired his shot gun once, pellets landing in mike's chest. The two walked slowly up to him guns aimed at him. Mike groaned as he held his wounds.
“HA, Got you, you little fucker!” yells the first man with a laugh.
He grabbed mikes new rifle lifting it up to inspect it.
“Nice gun you got here! I’ll be taking it now.”
Mike growled at him, coughing up blood a second later. A crash of the door's glass window startled the two men. They spun around to see the falcon sitting on the shelf, watching them.
“oh shit! Shoot i-“, the words barely escaped the man’s mouth when two gunshots went off. The two men fell to the ground. The second man howled with pain, holding his chest. The other man lay dead. A figure appeared in the door way. It was the Siren. A single smoking revolver in her hand aiming at Mike.
He spit out some more blood staring at her. He was bleeding out looking down at his hand covering his chest. She walked up to the howling man and kneeled down over him. He struggled to get away, screaming at her to leave. She placed a hand over his mouth bent over to his ear and whispered. Her other hand then drew a blade from her cloak. The man’s muffled screams turning into cries for help. She plunged it deep into his throat and stood there for a second. Removing the blade and wiping it off, she turned to Mike.
He was lying in a pool of blood, struggling to breathe. She walked over to him and kneeled before him. She placed a hand on his cheek and looked into his eyes. Even indoors you couldn’t see her face. But he could see her eyes. His vision blurred as life started to fade from him. She moved her lips to his ear.
“It’s ok, sleep.” She whispers into his ear. He closed his eyes waiting for the blade, slowly losing consciousness. He felt a prick in the side of his neck.
“… Blue…” he muttered, drifting off
(Chapter 4)
it was dark outside. Mike laid in his bed looking out the window. A television could be heard off in the other room.
“Growing tensions leave the world on edge; the clock has been set to 2 minutes before midnight.”
Mike sighed as he flipped over. He got out of bed and walked across his room. He stopped at the door, looking at a picture of him and Sandy that was placed on his dresser. Smiling he walked into the living room. He reached out to turn off the tv when a loud siren went off. It was the emergency siren. Mike panicked as he rushed off back upstairs to grab some things he needed. Grabbing the picture of Sandy, a coat, and his cell phone, he rushed back down the stairs. On the final step of the stairs a bomb went off. The roof of the house collapsed and the entire second floor was engulfed in flames. A support beam from the roof landed in front of mike blocking off his path. He turned around and ran out the back door.
Daisy and Abbey were in his front yard looking at the destruction. Daisy was crying into Abbeys chest as he gazed on. Mike ran up to them from around the house.
“Mikie!” Daisy screamed as she jumped at Mike, latching onto him.
“I thought you had died.” She says, hugging onto him tightly.
“C’mon, we don’t have time for this.” Yelled Abbey, signaling them over.
They ran down the street, joining the horde of people trying to get to safety.
“Wait! What about everyone else?” Mike yells.
Bombs went off in the distance. Abbey slows down for Mike.
“I’m sure everyone is fine. We need to get out of here first.” He says reassuringly.
They continued running. After a while Mike realized that this was the street where Lucy’s house was. He looked down the street hoping to see her, looking for her bow. Instead he saw something much more horrifying. Her home was destroyed. A burning husk of what used to be a building. The group ran up and stopped before it. They stood there in shock. Not uttering a word. Inside mike saw something that caused him to cry.
Lucy’s charred ribbon, hanging onto some debris, flapping in the wind.
(chapter 5)
Mike woke up. He was staring at the ceiling of a grey room. He moved to sit up but instead collapsed backwards in pain. He looked at his chest. He lay half naked, his wounds had been dressed and his bandages were bloody. He propped himself on his arm wincing as he made himself sit up. He looked around. The rest of the room was grey and abnormally sanitary. At the other end of the room were locked cabinets. Next to his bed was a large metal table. On it was his things, everything taken out of the pockets and separated, and a paper, cataloging all of his items.
He was alone in the room. After looking around for a while he got up. Walking over to the table he starts packing everything away. Glancing at an item that was separated far away from the collection of items, he stops and stares at it. It was Lucy’s ribbon. He quickly grabbed it and placed it in the pocket of his coat.
“Where the hell am I?” he muttered walking around the room.
He stopped at the door and shook the handle. It was locked. He walked away turning around and walking over to the sink. Around it lay bloodied tools and miscellaneous medications. In the sink was a tub, filled with small bloody metal fragments and three bullets.
“What the hell?” he muttered, poking at the contents.
A noise came from the door. The handle jiggled for a second, and then the entire door flew open. It was her. She looked about the room for a second, and then ran to the cabinets. Struggling with the lock she eventually gave up and smashed the glass of the cabinet doors. Reaching inside she grabs several bottles of medication. Taking a second to read them all she tosses all but one onto the counter top. Her hands shaky, she opens the bottle and removes a couple pills, quickly tossing them in her mouth. She stood there for a second propping herself up against the counter. Her body was shaking but after a few seconds it stopped. She breathed heavily for a minute longer finally turning her head to the bed. Taking a few paces closer she looked around the area confused. Eventually she turned around realizing Mike had gotten up.
“What are you doing out of bed?” she asked in a tone of frustration.
She walked over to him and grabbed him by the arm. Her grip was strong as she pulled him over and tossed him to the bed. His injuries not entirely healed up he falls to the ground. Pulling himself up with the aid of the bed he growls.
“What the hell was that for?”
But she was gone. The door slammed shut. Mike got up and walked to the door. It was unlocked. He opened it and looked around outside. It was a dark empty corridor. Looking down the hall he sees the end of the white cloak turn a corner. He walks after her. Turning the corner he looks down the next hallway. Its filled with rooms. A couple doors down he hears a slam. He walks over to it, peering through the small glass window.
Inside there was an open trunk. An assortment of weapons laying inside. The room was colored white. Mike adjusts his vision to get a better look at the rest of the room. There was a bed in the far corner and the white cloak laid on it. He heard shouts as papers and other objects flew across the room hitting the wall. A second later, seeing a small woman with white fur grabbing the cloak on the bed, Mike moves out of sight of the door. The door flew open as she rushed off down the hall.
“WHERE THE HELL IS HE NOW?!” He heard, assuming she had been looking for him. He quickly went into the room and shut the door. He turned around. He looked at a desk that was out of view. On it lay a random assortment of items mostly consisting of straps and blades. In the middle of the desktop laid an open notebook. He walked over and inspected it.
“Journal entry… I don’t even know anymore. I don’t really even care anymore actually.
It’s him. I swear it’s him this time. He was attacked by some other scavengers and was close to death. I’m glad I didn’t shoot him earlier. PS, need to get more food next time I’m out. Dang bird is eating me out of house and home.”
Mike was confused. Looking up trying to figure out what he just read.
“Journal entry… let’s just go with two for now.”
“I know for a fact it’s him. He was looking in pretty bad shape so I had to perform some minor surgery on him. He’s stable now but when I was emptying his pockets, cataloging all he had I came across something that was more than proof. That old pink ribbon! He must have grabbed it all those years ago.”
“journal entry three.”
“He hasn’t woken up yet, freaking asshole. Such a pain to feed him his medication. Hopefully he wakes up later.”
“journal four”
“I think Chirpy is enjoying herself nowadays. Kinda creepy actually. He has yet to wake up, could swear I had something that could wake him up but I haven’t been able to find it yet. Must be in another room…”
The journal went on for 7 more entries. Mike took a few steps backwards.
“What the hell did I just read?” he asked himself.
Hearing a sudden flapping he turns around. The falcon was standing on the edge of the bed watching him.
“Hello there, boy kitty. I see that you’re awake now.” It says.
“chir-chirpy?”
“The one and only.” She laughs, flying over and landing on his shoulder.
“What have you been up to all these years?” she asks.
The door flew open. The siren stood in the doorway.
“So this is where you were.” She mutters.
“Oh, you’re in trooouuble.” Chirpy giggles as she flies over and lands on the Siren’s shoulder.
“What the hell are you doing in here? I told you to stay in bed.” She demands walking up to him.
“Relax Lucy, I’m fine.’ He says.
Shocked, the Siren took a few steps back. She removed her hood to show her face.
“How did you know?” she asks.
“he read your book!” Chirpy interrupts.
“your eyes…” he mutters.
It went silent for a while.
“So after all these years you still had that stupid ribbon?” Lucy asks breaking the tension.
“YES! It was the only thing I had left of you. I couldn’t just get rid of it.” Mike shouts
“What the hell Lucy? Why did you never bother to talk to anyone? We thought you were dead. The past fifteen years I’ve been tormented with horrible nightmares, I couldn’t even remember your face.”
“You think I didn’t want to talk to you guys?” Lucy shouts back.
“Do you not remember? THERE WAS A WAR GOING ON! Jeez, your such a freaking idiot sometimes” she announces, folding her arms and looking away.
“You have no idea how good it is to see you again.” Mike smiles, walking up to Lucy and giving her a big hug.
“It’s good to see you too.” She says hugging him back.
(Chapter 6)
The high school’s gymnasium was packed with people. There was a small panic as people cried out for family members or broke down because o what had happened. Over all this commotion gunfire could be heard in the background as well as the occasional bomb that shook the walls.
“Alright, Everyone! I want you all to calm down and start forming single file lines at the exits to the left and right.” Yells an army official through the microphone. No one heard him. He repeated himself and got the same result. Abbey, grew aggravated about the chaos.
“Screw it, I’m going to go do something about this.” He yelled at the other two disappearing off into the crowd. A moment later there was a bunch of commotion up where the army official was talking. A second later Abbey was onstage wielding a rifle he took from a soldier. He fired off a few rounds. After a few screams everything went quiet. Abbey walked up and took the microphone away from the army official.
“Alright Everyone SHUT UP. The army is handling things as best they can and your chaos is not helping anything.” He yells. Everyone watched him including the soldiers.
“This man here has been trying to help you all out for the past five minutes. Now you are all going to listen. I want all Men to head to the right side of the gymnasium and create an orderly single file line. Women and children, to the left. NOW!”
A few moments later everything was going smoothly. The gymnasium was slowly emptying. The Army official had taken Abbey aside for a talk and Mike and Daisy watched from afar. A moment later Abbey headed over to them.
“What happened?” Daisy asked.
“Nothing, he just wanted talk to me. Come on he wants us to join him for a little bit.” Says Abbey, grabbing their arms and walking back over to the army official.
“Greetings again, Abbey. These are your friends I take it?”
“Hello Sir, yes these are my friends.”
“Excellent. Hello there, I am Staff Sergeant Alex Stevens, pleased to meet the both of you.” He says shaking the both of their hands.
“Your friend here has managed to get a very important opportunity that I would like to offer you two as well.”
“Okay.” The two respond.
“His actions, though rather extreme, greatly helped our efforts to remove the citizens from danger. We have offered him, as well as you, military admission. Should you choose to accept it you will receive military compensation in exchange for your efforts to aid in our operations.”
The two agreed.
“Great! Come with me” he announced.
(Chapter 7)
A week had passed and Mike had healed up rather well with the steady supply of medication. After a couple days of story telling the two had gotten reacquainted. Over the past couple days Mike had been extremely secretive with Lucy. Lucy decided to find out what was going on.
“What are you up to?” Lucy questions Mike, barging in on him.
“Oh hey Lucy, just packing.” Mike says, turning around to focus on her.
“Where do you plan to go?” she asks.
“We’re going to Rose.” He says tossing her a small bag.” Go get your cloak. We’re heading out in five.”
Lucy headed off to her room looking through the bag Mike had given to her. Walking into her room she grabs her cloak and heads over to her desk. Opening it she grabs three bottles of pills and tosses them in the bag. Chirpy, greets her, flying in through the open door.
“What’s going on?” she asks.
“We’re going on a trip, C’mon.” Lucy answers, putting her hood up.
“Lucy! Time to go.” Mike shouts from the other room.
Grabbing the rest of her things she hurries out of the room with Chirpy on her shoulder. An hour later they were on the surface. Walking down the street mike hears voices in the distance. Putting his finger to his lips he tells Lucy and chirpy to be silent as they sneaked over to an overturned car. Looking over, he sees a group of five people making their way in Mike and Lucy’s direction.
“Don’t worry, I got this.” Chirpy whispers, preparing for takeoff. “Now I can show you my cool new trick!”
She flew off, faster than Mike had ever seen. Soaring high into the air and then nose diving at the group. The group noticed her coming.
“Shoot it!!!” yells one of the members, firing off his gun at Chirpy. The others joined in. Chirpy suddenly changed direction and flew into the ground, slamming into it pretty hard, and then she went still.
“We got it!!!” the man shouted, walking over to their kill with the others. They all gathered around Chirpy’s body. In a flash Chirpy flapped her wing and got up. The men around her fell to the ground, dead with thin blades strewn about all their bodies. Dusting herself off, Chirpy flew back over to Lucy and Mike.
“See! Cool trick huh?
Mike was laying against the car his hand over his heart.
“Please don’t do that again. You scared me to death.” He chuckled. “how did you do that whole blade thing anyways?”
“Well I did that for her.” Lucy announced. “You see, I made this little strap thing for her. It holds really thin blades in between her feathers so she can either; fly by things and brush her wing on something to cut it or, like she just performed for us, throw the blades.” Says Lucy grabbing Chirpy’s wing and showing Mike.
After congratulating the two of them for their incredible feat, Mike led them to the Rose wall, a large barrier built around the city of Rose to keep people out. Walking along it they make their way to the front gate.
Fifty meters from the entrance a guard spots the group. Quickly turning around he presses a red button and shouts at the other guards. “IT’S THE SIREN!” A moment later twenty more guards showed up, In front of them, a large burly man. “Open fire!” shouts one person. A hail of bullets flew at Mike and Lucy. Mike takes cover behind a nearby pile of rubble with Chirpy. Lucy, who had received more concentration of the fire, dashes off ahead. Barely dodging the bullets Lucy raced straight to the group of guards. Swinging her arms 5 small blades land themselves in the gaps between the armor plating of some of the guard’s armor. As the guards that were injured fell to the ground Lucy placed herself in the middle of the group, pulling out a sub machine gun in each hand. She opened fire spraying thirty or more bullets into as many people as possible. Flicking her wrists, the empty magazines flew out of the guns and she grabbed two more from inside her cloak reloading in less than a second. Lowering her guns assuming that the fight was over, the large man comes up from behind and puts her in a death hug, lifting her off her feet.
“Got’cha” he laughs. Lucy struggles to break free but instead the man squeezes tighter forcing her to drop her guns.
Taking a large breath the man announces “Good to see you again Lucy! What’s it been? Ten years.”
“What?” she says as she stops moving.”H-How did you know?” she asks.
“You smell to clean to be some average waster.” placing her back on the ground and releasing her.
“Hey David.” Mike says, walking up to them. “I see you figured things out rather fast.”
“Mike! Long time no see. You enjoy your birthday present?”
“Very much, thanks. Mind if we continue this conversation inside?”
David waved his arm in the air and the large gates opened.
“Welcome to Rose!” David laughs.

This "the two agreed" was much too simple for a so important thing.
Also, Lucy killed, like, a lot of people and David doesn't care?? What the?
And... why again Lucy didn't go meet Mike and the others...?
