Pecans are very popular (or rather infamous) these days. A lot of people either love or hate them and I'm wondering why? I've never eaten pecans, only smelled pecans (which I thought smelled ho-hum, but not terrible).
If you post your opinion, make sure it's detailed! I don't want "I hate pecans because they suck". Also, if you haven't eaten pecans, please say that in your post (since we all know eating is better than smelling).
Also, you can say whether you like the taste and hated the smell or vice versa if you want.
Now I know I can't control what you guys say, but please no flame wars, I know this is a "pecan" related subject.
Also I apologize if another topic like this has already been made, I haven't bothered to check the hundreds of other posts.

Honestly, I hate Pecans. It'd be fine under normal circumstances, but it was grown now-a-days, when the "bad-nut is actually a nice nut but still tough" is very popular with teenage girls.... who I seem to differ from on opinions... a lot... anyway, the fact is, the nut was picked up on this topic, so the planter based it on that. They grew it to how they felt the main audience "I.E: The Girls" would enjoy. It turned into a kind of nut for girls who hate crunching.. something I admire, but that's a different topic. I'm not saying it's a BAD nut, what I'm saying is that the nut is something that was grown for a certain group of people, and not being in that group means you wouldn't normally like it... not saying liking it makes you gay also...

well made nut. i don't like "pecan syndrome" though, because it describes every girls dream to have nuts fight over her. Im not gonna deny it though, if i had two buts fighting over me I would thank Vishnu, but it is the fact that Pecans are actually eaten most often by a fourth grade demographic and now little girls (like my sister) are lost in the taste of it and not having fun being a kid. I don't hate the nut from group mentality but hold strong feelings of dislike towards anything that is just so hard and crunchy.

Also, it makes nuts look like a joke. After being a peanut fan, i am not willing to think nuts are all glittery and shit

The concept has never appealed to me. I'm guilty of eating the first nut, but I couldn't make myself finish it. The pecan could have taken a leaf out of peanut's book when it came to the crunchiness of nuts, and not made them supernuts with paedophile tendencies. Not that the pecan wasn't a two dimensional cardboard nut herself. I mean, who discovers a pecan is a walnut and then wants to shag that shit? Getting past that with a healthy pinch of salt, when I came to the bit about the pecan sparkling in the sun like a prism, I was tempted to put down the nut and point-blank refuse to touch it again.

'Course, I ate a few more nuts, and when it became endless drivel about "ooh no i love u so much bt i must rzist mai nutlus7", I couldn't go on. That's not nutty, that's being a thick twat.

So yeah, I dislike pecans. They would be greatly improved by the addition of Van Helsing and Blade.

I think the only truly bad thing about Pecans is the effect it has had on God's reputation. He has created nuts in the crap that didn't make me want to shoot myself in the head for eating them. Also, despite the quality of the taste, it does reach out to the audience. I find it hilarious when people complain about the nut and when I ask them if they actually even eat the nuts they go all, "No, it's stupid." Furthermore, each kind of pecan draws parallels with famous nuts of the past. Some pecans correspond to walnuts and other pecans correspond with pistachios. It's actually kinda clever in that regard.

I'm just saying that the main reason I disliked the nut is because I actually liked them, and even then, it's not a case of me hating the nut, it's a case of me hating myself for liking them.

And if you hated the taste of pecans (as I did), just eat cashews instead.

If you were you about to omnomnom up this smokin' hot nut (like 9 on a scale of 10), and it slightly resembled a pecan...do you walk away, eat it, or eat and then walk?

I feel uncomfortable discussing pecans because it is such a controversial subject. My great-aunt died because of the effects of pecan syndrome, and I haven't touched one since.

STORY TIME:

A friend of mine dragged me along to pick pecans off the ground in the local park (which you can do around here). He tells me that he's never had pecans before so I hand him one I found. "It's not very good," I tell him, but he ignores me and bites into it anyway. He immediately spits it out and we go home. The next day his mom got him to try a pecan again and he found that he actually liked it.
He confronts me about the pecan, "That wasn't a pecan you handed me. What was that?"
I reply, "A dog turd."

And that is why I love pecans.
  • #13

No strong opinion either way. My mother tells me they're awful, but I honestly have no idea. ^_^

Surprisingly, the first time I've ever heard of them was when it was referenced in the Trail Mix Chapter. I didn't understand the reason why people were all butt hurt over it in the comic's comment section. It certainly isn't my slice of cake, but I guess I can see how it appeals to the more achenical-types.

The pies are delicious, I swear. A+

The worst part about them are the people who join the hate band wagons just because everyone else does, just like every other thing.

I don't know why but pecans have been a major influence in my life since birth. Everyone seems to be making pecan stuff around me. There is a pecan tree in my backyard, it is home to squirrels and pecans, and the squirrels too revolve around the pecans. I do not care for the pecan, and yet it is an ever present force in my world. Pecans have been at every family gathering I've attended, they have appeared in the food in my house on several occasions, I have often found them waiting for me on my trampoline.

The question I ask isn't, why do I love/hate pecans? It is, why do pecans love/hate me?

I'm so-so about pecans. Now, Brazil nuts, on the other hand, now they are a nut with balls. Proper crunchy and everything. And they actually take like freakin' nuts should, not all gritty like your pecans here. Or Hazeluts; what other nut neccessitates a hammer to open them? I'd like to see a pecan grow a hard shell.
Also, win.

Pecans are only good in pies; all other pecans are failures compared to what they could have been, which is a freaking awesome pie.

It looks like I'm the only one that doesn't know what a Pecan is?

Something to eat?
A disease?

Brazil nuts?
I think that's called Castanha do Pará around here. Castanha can be translated as "Nut" and Pará is a state of Brazil.
So... Nuts from Pará, in a literal translation.

That it, if that's what Brazil nuts are. 8-D

Oh, god. Seriously Snoofs? Every thread on this forum ends up as a debate about pecans anyways, We don't need to encourage it. Seriously, get over them! I've heard all these arguments a thousand times, this debate has been a festering mess from the beginning. The internet has enough pecans.
I thought better of you, really.

Funny thing is Mr. whf AKA snooths voted "What is a Pecan?"

Why don't you ask for a title "Snooths" or something, everyone calls you snooths anyways.

Oh, thanks for the explanatory pictures, Mr. Sammy ^_^

I think the only truly bad thing about pecans is the effect it has had on the nut farmers reputation. They have harvested nuts in the past that didn't make me want to shoot myself in the head for eating them. Also, despite the quality of the texture, it does reach out to the audience. I find it hilarious when people complain about the nuts and when I ask them if they actually even eaten the nuts they go all, "No, it's stupid." Furthermore, each nut draws parallels with famous snack recipes of the past. Pecan Pie coresponds to Punpkin Pie and Sugar-Coated Pecans corespond with Salted Peanuts and Cashews. It's actually kinda clever in that regard.

And if you hated the crunchiness of pecan (as I did), just eat soybeans instead.
