The Adventuring Guild of Fair-River (RP-Recruiting)

Hey, Bribri, can you help me out a little? For some reason, I can't connect to the Rizon chat, even though on Friday I got in with no problem, now it simply won't allow me. I have no idea why this is so, what do you think I should do?

What client do you use? You could try Mibbit.com's client for a moment, try and connect, and see what the tab that has 'Rizon <<' says. It relays system messages.

Or on mIRC, just click the tab with your nickname and see what the system messages say.

Of course, you could always be connecting with a nickname that's taken and not know it. It won't let you on the server if you're using a nick that's in use.
  • #252

Can't say I'm a computer expert Cicloposits and much of our more nerdy types aren't awake yet but I'll see what I can do.

What exactly is rizon -doing- when you try to connect? What sort of message do you get on MIRC or mibbit?

As a quick fix you could always try using a different program (that is using MIRC if it's mibbit given you troubles, or mibbit if MIRC is giving you troubles etc).
  • #253

Yes, well the message when I try to enter the chat is: The Internet Explorer cannot display this web page. Nothing else, really. But it doesn't really matter, I've already done what you suggested, Bri, and it seems to be working for now, so, no real harm done, eh.

Ehn it all looks okay Sushi.. but ehn... I just.. don't like the idea of sacrificing initiative for combat stats. I'm unsure of the balance and in the long run it wouldn't really deter your character a -ton-. Just take Scrutinize out and it'll be approved. I might consider it again down the line.

Awwwwww yeah, time for a new character, drawing from the good ol' times of Ogres. But yeah, he's silly and I guess the contention would be that Devourer quirk. I mean it's got a pretty neat negative an it's not like his defense is amazing to begin with.

=Player:Ace=
Character: Derstuan Almorte, The Iron Gut
Age: 27
=Combat Stats=
HP:27/27 FP:0
ATT:3 DEF:4 VIT:9

=RP-Attributes=
Bod:9
Agi:3
IQ:9
Per:6
Cha:3

=Special Moves=
BoneBreaker (Sacrifice) - Pulling out a bone, Derstuan takes a mighty crunch, the fragments tearing at his mouth and throat but empowering him to crush the bones of his enemies in turn.
Quickliver (Heal)- Rustling through his bag, Derstuan pulls out a liver, devouring it for its power of regeneration
Gurgle (Second Chance)- Even though he may be down for the count, such a powerfully hungry stomach does not go unanswered for long, pulling the rest of the body up Derstuan is ready to eat again.

=Quirks=
Healer

Butcher - Should Derstuan land the final blow on a living, animal, opponent he immediately sets to butchering up new ingredients for his spells, taking some time to sample his wares. So long as the body is within his reach, Derstuan loses his next turn, but gains +1 defense (to a maximum of 7) until the end of the battle as the fresh meat courses in his veins.

Apperance:
Derstaun is a tall, 6’9” dog clad in a large leather apron festooned with butcher’s equipment, all kept in pristine condition. Around his waist are bags which have a strange, distinctive smell to them that occasionally drip some red fluid.

I'll finish the backstory eventually. Eventually.

I'll admit Butcher concerned me some. But really. It isn't going to be that much of a problem when your ATT score is -3- and the only way you have to kill someone is bone-breaker. Though you can expect your character to be hanged in an instant if he includes -intelligent- creatures as things he 'butchers'. Even evil ones.

However Close combat requires you to at -least- have an ATT score of 5. Meaning I'm afraid you can't take it ^_^;;;

Sorry for the slow response time on this one. Kept meaning too and getting distracted. You know how it is.

Oh I fully understand on the distraction portion. Let's see, yes I didn't think there would be an issue, and it's mostly a fluff thing. He'll cannibalize and it'll be hilarious to see. But things are edited anyway.

Fair-River Role Playing

Alternate Reality

1929: Popping the Cork

As the title says, this will a quest, a one-shot that is set during the waning years of the prohibition era and the onset of the Great Depression. Set after the stock market crash in 1928, the city of New Orleans is in full swing with clubs jumping from big band, swing and jazz, speakeasies bustling underneath, and the police force a mess of straight and corrupted cops. You will take the place of federal agents on a simple stake out mission that, as always, goes horribly wrong.

Now, this is sort of an alternate reality to make things easier for the players. Stuff like twenties' lingo and slang (though nice when used) isn't required, and you would simply talk like normal people. But the same thing applies backwards; don't use modern terms you know probably wouldn't have existed back then. Please don't talk about video games and such.

Also, there is no segregation. After the US Civil War, things went the right way and blacks, along with all other races, are treated quite fairly. This isn't to say that racism has died out; again, it is the 1920's. So, for role play purposes, if you want a racist character that is perfectly acceptable. A table of races will follow soon, once I get this all out of the way. Don't forget about corrupt cops, either! You don't have to be a shining Paladin of the law. Does your character drink when not on duty? Or does he hate alcoholics because they break the law? Will he take bribes when he can? The level of corruption is up to you and is part of your character. Anything goes! Just because you're a federal agent doesn't make you infallible.

On the flip side, we also want to adhere somewhat, though loosely, to actual American history here. World War One did indeed happen, the president is Hoover, clothing, styles, automobiles, everything is as it would have been in the twenties. This means that most recent technology probably didn't exist. I know that should be obvious, but it never hurts to make sure. World history can be kept looser, but as stated before, World War One did indeed happen for the exact reasons it started. With the depression as well, the world isn't faring too well.

Now that the setting has been defined, we'll move on to the next subject, that of races. As it is today, the United States is a place filled with different people, different cultures, religions, all of that. This exists here in this quest as well. The cats normally used are what we would call white people; they are the standard American, the standard European, and it would be cute to keep the breed you are (say, Bombay,) to the country of it's origins. In a Bombay's case, it would be England. Or, they could have been born in the United States. It doesn't matter, it's all up to you! But yes, felines are white folk, canines are the equivalents of black people, birds are Asians, hedgehogs are the Hispanic, and the Yasho are from places in Middle East.

With that in mind, character creation is the same that it would be here. Eighteen combat stats, thirty role play points, all the same stats like body, agility, what have you. But I will be introducing a new feature for this quest, and that is the weight threshold stat. All characters have the ability to carry up to fifteen pounds of equipment (barring quirks). This is because weapons modify your base attack, and there are items that can increase your defense. To ensure you don't go around carrying three Thompsons and four Colts, this has been implemented. We'll cover weapons next.

Weapons

  • Thompson M1921 Submachine Gun: +6 at close to mid range. Six blocks.
  • Springfield M1903 Bolt-Action Rifle: +8 long distance, +4 mid-range, -3 close range. Eight blocks.
  • Colt M1911 Semi-Auto Pistol: +2 close to medium range. Two blocks.
  • Dual Colt Pistols: +4 close range. Four blocks.
  • Smith & Wesson Generic Brand .44 Magnum: +5 close to mid range. Five blocks.
  • M1897 Winchester Trenchgun: +7 close range, +4 mid range, +1 long range. Nine blocks.
  • Generic Sawed-Off Double-Barreled Shotgun: +9 close range, +6 mid range, -5 long range. Seven blocks.
  • M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle: +6 close range, +4 mid range, +3 long range. Eleven blocks plus a minimum body requirement of 7.

Equipment

  • Medkit: +2 to all healing rolls. Five blocks.
  • Body armor: +4 to defense, is ignored by Bypass. Seven blocks.
  • Lock Pick Kit: Can pick locks. One block.
  • Knife: Standard issue. Weightless. Bonus to sneak attacks. +3 and halves defense.
  • Hand Grenade: Recommended to have good body to lob. +8 to attack, can damage allies. Three blocks.
  • Bayonet (Rifle only). Eliminates -3 for rifle. Three blocks.
  • Bipod (B.A.R. only). Adds another +2 for long range and +1 for mid. Four blocks.

Custom Quirks

Close Combatant (Quirk): Gain a combat point, but you can only use shotguns and the regular pistol. You must have a base attack of six or higher to take.

Pack Mule (Quirk): Lose the ability to use anything but pistols, along with two combat points. However, as such, you can carry far more items (five extra weight blocks). Medkit cost is also reduced to four blocks. A maximum of +4 to healing, which means two medkits, can be carried. Also, all healing rolls are made at 2#dV

And there you have it. Everything your character can carry. It would be nice if you could, when creating your sheet, put this section beneath your stats:

Weapons and Equipment
-list of said stuff-

So, uh... yeah. In case I forgot anything, remind me. PM me your character sheets and what not when you've made them. So let's get you into the mood!

Quick Question:

Does this alternate reality mean we should make new characters, or just edit old ones?

Also, I'm a pretty light rper here, and as such I don't really have any "approved" characters. I hope I can simply have you as the creator approve of it.

In any case, I'd like to join this quest. When does it start?

...Uh... maybe this weekend, hopefully. Really, I run when I can gather everyone up. Aimwise, I would say this Saturday or Sunday, but as stated, I run when everyone is here.

Yeah, it's an alternate universe, you can use old or new, doesn't matter. And I would be the one approving the character, so don't worry about it. If you want to join, be my guest! Just PM me your sheet when you finish it.

Specials
Headfirst (Lead the charge)- Looks like the enemy done' gone and pissed Faxon off. You shouldn't do that. Allies gain +2 to attack if the attack connects.

Thick fur (Reflect)- Faxon has some pretty thick fur. Seems like it could absorb a blow or two, right?

Backup (Protect)- Sometimes, people just need a little help. Good karma is never a bad thing to rack up.

Quirks
Close Combatant- Faxon really can't attack at a distance. Giant hammers do not have much range.

@Panda
Looks fine over all. I will say you could fix up the formatting a bit (I see a Grass in there, and you don't need to have everything lumped together heh) but that's really just knit picking on my part. Similarly Charge attack or Sure strike would probably be a better choice over Perfect Strike for a balanced character but you're free to stick with it if you prefer.

Either way the character is approved.

@Hakulnaba

Also looks fine. I will say the name is a bit odd for a person from Fair River (Given we're in a Europe like area and that's rather Eastern sounding) but given the trading the country does with the east it isn't impossible by any means.

For any character with 8+ DEF I highly recommend either the Heavy armor, or Practiced Defender quirks (or both if you want them!)... but that's still just a recommendation so don't feel you -have- to take them.

Either way this character is approved as well.

(Archious gains +2 when attempting a body check for endurance, but -2 when attempting a perception check.)

Background:
Constant aiding and travel can certain take their toll on any normal dog, but Archious' determination had never been anything less than incredible. Being overcome by grief for those he lost during wars between neighboring countries, Archious had been overcome by an unending rage to avenge those that were mercilessly slaughtered. His thirst for blood was so strong that he couldn't even tell innocent from guilty.
During one of his many rampages, he eventually came across a feline girl who didn't seem to fear him. She had just stood there staring at the monstrous Husky, with a look that made him cringe at the very thought of killing. His rage wanted to strike down the girl, but his mind couldn't bring himself to do such a thing. He lowered his sword and kneeled down, while concentrating on his humanity. He finally calmed down to the point where his fur lay still once more and his breathing was brought back to normal. He just lay there on his knees, weeping, begging the girl for forgiveness. The feline then began hugging Archious as she spoke to him, "It's alright. You are forgiven." After opening his eyes again, the girl had vanished and there was no trace of her leaving. Ever since then Archious has been determined to protect all that are worthy of protection; to stay strong no matter how terrifying the situation is and to always meditate to control that horrible creature that rests within him.

Description:
Archious lives around his 30s but some people say he looks allot older than that. With all the fighting and travelling his build has gained plenty of muscles giving him plenty of strength. Although his body may seem fit for any normal dog, his face and eyes are always still and focused. As if trying to concentrate on himself and the situation. Due to his build he has an astonishing height of 6'6" making it rather difficult to go through doorways in order to help out others. His voice sounds rather deep and soft during normal chatting, but during battle his bark rages through the battlefield to alert his allies at all times. Archious is usually comfortable with wearing his armor during the whole day. Usually because he wants to be prepared for anything at all times. But on really casual times he will just wear a white shirt with a red vest.

@LaserKnight7
All posts on the forum can be edited Laserknight so you don't need to repost if edits are needed. But lets see here.

Your RP attributes are 1 point off again. They add up to 29. You get 30 points for them so feel free to toss in an extra point there. HP is equal to VITx3 which in your case is (7x3)=21. Make those two little fixes and he should be fine for approval.

I edited it,I hope my sheet is perfect now.

@RedJack
Lets see here. Flex doesn't quite work as (A) Your Agility is already 4 and quirks can't lower attributes lower then 3 (4-2=2 after all) and (B) strength and endurance is pretty much.. everything the body score does. You'll have to specify one or the other to gain the benefit. Make some edits to make it work or you can get rid of it if you prefer.

Second thing, while none of your SM's are against the -rules- I would strongly recommend Heal or second chance over Leech. Leech really isn't going to be very effective with only 4 ATT. But that's more of a suggestion then any sort of error.

@LaserKnight
Looks fine now. Approved~

Background: As a child, Alex was brought up in a bad part of the town, and he vowed to be smart enough, and successful enough to move him and his parents out of the slums and into somewhere better. As he was growing up, he began to learn some knowledge of the arcane... particularly being ice magic. He realized that there were two options, fight or flight. Alex wasn't a particularly muscular kid, but he was great at climbing, being agile and light on his feet, and quickly learned the art of hiding and sneaking, he also used this to his advantage whenever he needed something important, such as medicine and the like. But as Alex was returning home, he found out that his parents had been tried and sentenced to execution by a corrupt law official. When he tried to save his parents, he was never able to free them before they were taken to the gallows.While he was living alone he started to make jewelry as a means for money. Since that day he has been bottling up all of his anger and resentment. Nowadays he is cheerful and always tries to protect his friends at any cost, so he doesn't have to go through losing someone again.

Description: Alex is incredibly shy, but one he deems someone as his friend he will do whatever it takes to protect them. Alex is about 5'11, has a medium build, has ice blue eyes, his breath is always able to be seen in the form of icy water vapor due to the ice magic he has trained with, and is a very agile and stealthy cat. He has good looks, which he uses to his advantage when trying to get information, or something he wants out of someone, he also has been told that he has "a silver tongue" when it comes to persuasion. Alex usually wears a gray hooded cloak with green trim, he always wears a necklace with both of his parent's pictures in it, to remind him of why he needs to protect his friends. He only wears the hood whenever he's sneaking around however. Alex always has a cheerful, light smile on his face when he's not fighting. His voice is very soothing, and is almost always in an upbeat tone, as if trying to make the other person he is talking to feel more comfortable about talking with him. In dangerous situations he may come off as cold, and a jerk, but he is only trying to protect those that he cares about.

(Hopefully I didn't screw up something obvious...)

@Mike
You didn't Don't worry. Anything missing isn't actually a REQUIREMENT at all in fact.

First Leech.. kindof sucks on characters with lower then 7 ATT since you need to -hit- for it to be of any use. I'd consider other options. But you can keep it if you want. Similarly a Quick Ref similar to the ones in the Grand player/gm list would be appreciated but not required either.

For the most part though approved.
