Redwoods are all around, but I have to drive a bit to really get to the heavy redwood forests, I was hiking on mostly bare and grassly hills, it's just been really, really foggy the past week.

The pool is owned by the city. It's probably been booked for an aquatic meet of some kind. I don't know exactly, I just checked online and all it said was that leisure swimming was cancelled today. They do provide monthly schedules at the pool, I should pick one up next time I go.
I've only ever been to the southern portion of California. Needless to say, I've done some desert hiking.

There are other public pools, but none with the deep-water swimming I crave. I'm quite at home in chlorinated water between 2½ and 4 metres deep.
I've also done a bit of hiking on Mount San Jacinto. It's awesome to be looking down at the desert 9,000+ feet below you.

San Jacinto? Familiar with it, but I've never been....I usually stay local, I'd recommend Mt. Diablo, or Mt. Hamilton if you ever the chance, not nearly as large but on an ideal day you have a view of 100+ miles in every direction.

I like California very much. Been there twice and had some very good times there. I intend to go back sometime at least to hike through Muir Woods one more time.
