I would probably panic and think cancer...

They panicked and told me that it looked like cancer. I thought it was normal, but when they actually saw what it had done to me inside the gastroenterologist said it was one of the worst cases he'd ever seen and asked how I could've ignored that for two years straight.

Watch the Eternal Moonwalk for five hours. That one's actually pretty fun.

Don't worry, Dom. I barely passed my senior year and I was barely stressed at all.

Well you're kind of a badass, Jerk.

You don't gain body mass from cancer itself. It's really the body poisoning itself and gradually wastes you away.

Their is no rule that says cancer has to form a tumor...it usually does, but it certainly doesn't have to.
  • #99409

You would weigh less, but the point is that the cancer isn't adding to your mass. It's converting it.

Right. So that would be 10 pounds that is no longer being used by your body. Your effective body weight would be less then your physical body wieght.

A 30 pound baby with a 20 pound tumor had only 10 pounds of working fleash.

I gave my back pain three weeks, but in my defense I couldn't actually walk without painkillers anymore toward the end. It was like a tumor or something and they just cut it out so now I'm good again.

@ Craft: But that's the thing. Tumors have weight and the cancer that causes them does, but the mass that they take up is compensated for by the consumption of resources by cancer cells.
  • #99412

Well, I like that idea of him making another personality to comfort him.
But I want him to look vulnerable, not mentally cracking...
I want to show that he's been through alot and that he's experienced more than any boy his age should ever have to deal with in their life, but I also want to show how strong he is by being able to deal with that stress.
You could almost say he's a hero not because he flies around saving lives, but because of the fact that he would so willingly put such an enormous strain on himself for the sake of the people around him... Weither or not they know it.

I want the reader to look at the superheros they see on their cartoons, their comic books, and from all of his or her stories in a new light. I want to take away the image of an unbreakable hero and add on the things that they learn in my story. I want them to see how hard it is for Peter Parker to be in love with Mary Jane and still save the citizens of New York. I want to show the battle wear in Supermans eyes as he once again jumps in the telephone booth to change into his costume. I want to break the image of a hero in my story, and show the realities that come with being one.

Jake, you painted the picture of a young boy with no one to help him, more stress then most people feal in a lifetime, and a powerful thirst for love that the poeple he suffers for simply can't fill.

He is meant to be just bairly compensating because the role of super hero that you are trying to be honest about IS mentaly debilitating.

As he is right now he is OK but if one thin happens to chainge his situation even slightly for the worce he will snap. You made him specificaly to be on the edge.

How he snapps or if something helps him hold on will be up to you. If something helps him beleive that the people like him even less, he will need a new sorce of comfort. If his glasses are stepped on by a kid he saves from a buring building, that childs kidnies will be at north and south sides of town. If someone finaly convinced him they love him, he will break down crying and compleatly control their live any way he can.

That's the thing jake, I don't wont to make your story. I want you to make your story and listen and choose to ignore me or not ignore me or make me think you are listening and then stick in a plot twist I didnt see coming or whatever YOU want to do.
  • #99431

@Craft
He is ment to be on the verge of breaking, but I don't know how he will act when he "Snaps".
I don't think he would lose it on somebody though. Right now I'm imagining him flying out into something like a valley or a desert, screaming his head off and sending spells flying in all directions.
As for somebody telling him that they loved him, I don't think he would try to control them. There would be a lot of crying yes, but not controlling.

Well jake, you made something on the edge. All people will want to see is you push him over. Really, any nuber of things would be doable but what I have been trying to get out of you, do you or don't you have an idea on how to continue this?
  • #99435

You could always bring him back after insanity.

Let him wreak havoc, have someone who truly loves him reveal the truth, then he realises and has to undo the damage the evil has done. and people hate him, so he has to remake a name for himself!

Crazy first season of anime there.

Hmmm...
I don't know about sending him over the edge yet. I want the reader to see more into his life before I do something that drastic.
If I do it right in the next chapter, it won't have that big of an impact.

over the edge could happen about halfway through the series. you'd have six to eight episodes doing other stuff.

when he is getting close to snapping you should have him just float on his back to class near the roof.

I think less is more here. I mean, if you can lagitamatly fill that stuff with events, that would be cool but no stalling at any point for the love of god.

So first couple episodes, you get his life, and introduces other characters (love interests, minor and major antagonists, traitors, etc...)
Second section, he starts losing it. Third section, he does lose it and goes crazy.
Big season finale two-parter cliffhanger, he realizes his mistakes, but now he is hated by the people he had originally strove to protect...

NO

Becasue Fuck the rules, I have power and you take me for granted. Plus, this is preaty sweet.
Also, you can show people reacting and even have a scean where he gets called to the princaples office and before walking in he lights his own head on fire or sticks a chunk of ice to his elbo and everyone just tries to ignore it. You know, silently fearing. Mostly, I just want that floating in the hall thing. I have been seeing it in my head and it would be Sooooo~ satisfying.

Because you keep using recycled stuff like having love bring you back from he brink for only the power of love is omnipotent and also you keep ignoring that jake wants to have no such indevidual connection. I do like the idea of a person trying to connect with him but instead he just treats him/her like more gum on his shoes.
  • #99444

@Craft
I don't know about him lighting his head on fire or anything like that. He tends to keep his magic to himself in school.
Like I said, you wouldn't know the difference between him and the other students if he wasn't flying over the streets or saying chants under his breath.
Although he will use his magic in situations like... He drops his pencil and it rolls across the floor. Instead of getting up to get it, he just sends it flying back into his hand through magic.

Well, do you want a hopeful ending? or a downer? Cuz I can write one hell of a downer.

In retrospect, it's not so like batman. The only connexions are batman being a superhero and him eventually being hated.

I like pointless endings. The type of ending that makes you feel as though it may as well have never happened.

And if you really hate downer endings you'd do very well to watch something like The Mist or The Skeleton Key.
