Well that is just it. At the moment he would never do something like that but that is the point. It would subconciously be his own little rebelion but when you are having the diolog he could be thinking more about just how nice it would be to not have to walk today and how the onlything stoping him form doing it is the expectiations of these humans. These danm judgmental humans. "I- I think I want to." and then he starts to lift and his relaxed legs swing jsut a little bit as the tips of his toes leave the ground.
It seem nice but the implied part would be that he wanted to
and it didn't matter at all what people wanted him to do anymore.
While wrigting the scean he should sut give off the air of bliss but everyone else should seem weirded out and just a bit scared of this new chainge.

Also: aljfksdjf The ending of the Mist, the novella was a 100 times better cause at least there was hope. But I still enjoy the movie.

Ok, butt you have to remember, he is happy. The reader needs to somehow know and feal that he is happy.

The underlieing hidden parts of this would be that he is abandoning their rule and no longer will he obey them. He now will do what he feels like for the first time in his life and if feals GREAT.
If you are willing to do the multipul personality thing then this would be the moring after he gets the comforing voise when he first loses some of his need for people.

Exactly. Don't get me wrong. I love a downer ending when it's properly nuanced. Such as my other example, The Skeleton Key. There they coupled a downer with a perfectly executed twist and it just makes you say "no. Aww, What!? No way! damn. nice."

Sure. He can have the hots for someone. He could even get laid at some point. In fact, you could have a carfully laid out conversation with that person where the Sorcereer is convinced she only likes him becase he has powers.
