Jasmine: A discussion We will discuss Jasmine
Why does she fascinate us? She has been around for a short time, has little character development, and often has the same facial expression! So why?
For me, I think it's when I first saw her I said, "Wow, that character has an interesting and cute design, I hope Paulo chooses her." And he did. I was enamored by this character and when we saw her on the date and her actions back in school, I was instantly hooked to these glimpses in her personality. What delight! This character who has been on only a few pages at this point enthralled my heart! As we move into Halloween we see her in a different light, as Paulo's helper in the scaring arts, looking so good doing it. What will we see from her in the future?
So to sum up, my love of Jasmine was not based on great and demanding logic, in fact alot is based on shallow perceptions! But I feel she is an excellent character that has much potential in the future, and I would encourage others to post why, or why not, they enjoy this fiesty feline

It makes me think that the REAL reason for dislike of the charactures is how conviniantly they lead the main cast to happyness

It's different because instead of going all "OMG JASMINE <3 <3 <3 <3", we're actually discussing why or why not she is so popular.
For me, I believe that it was her character design. Take a look at her first appearance in the comic. Just the first panel alone will suffice.

The eye is automatically drawn to her, not just because she's the center focus of the panel, but because of her design. A character with hair that is kept up in a style unlike any character before. A character wearing clothing that can be described as Asian in origin. Those two things already make her stand out from her two friends, one of which has annoying ears and the other who is just blah.
But it was not just character design alone that attracted people to her. Let's take a look at the second time she appears, when Paulo picks her up for their date.

She displays here innocence that hasn't been displayed by other characters, at least, not in the same way she shows it. She was waiting eagerly by the door for Paulo. That adds a ton of points to her adorableness factor.
However, I think she became most awesome in the eyes of many fans at the end of "Back and Forth" when she "saves" Paulo.

Paulo's line in Panel 8 sums up almost everyone's reaction to Jazz.
Her amazing insight to Paulo's situation gave a whole new level to her personality and character. The sweet, innocent, and possibly naive Jasmine saves Paulo. Paulo, the "token womanizer" has become the damsel in distress, with Jasmine as the prince.
Also, it didn't hurt that she dressed up as a kimono zombie for Halloween.

Mhm. I understand that; however, you were the first one to actually do that. ^_^
I feel her portrayal has been good; however, I do not like her (as a character) as much as I have enjoyed Lucy or Paulo and their personalities. Or, for that matter, the rest of the main cast.

Anyway, Kaxbe sums it up pretty nicely, and even includes pictures.
(nameless) Hopefully Paulo's reaction to that makes him realise the error of his ways.

Good observation, but by the time the newest chapter is over, Sandy will have no hope in being more interesting. Jazz got more flushing out in those parts Kaxbe brought up than Sandy in the entire chapter dedicated to her. Though that was JUST to show Sandy.

I'll admit that I wasn't too fond of her when I first saw her; at the time, I was a crazed PauloxLucy fan (and though I still support the pairing, I am content with PauloxJasmine).. XP But still, I like her. She's just.. amazing. The points that Kaxbe made pretty much sum how I feel, though I might as well add a bit anyways..
Well, for one, she has an amazing design, as a lot of people have pointed out. Her hair color, her fur pattern.. They just go really well together! Personally, I adored the clothing that she had, and it'll take a while for me to get used to her without clothes, but eh. I just love how cheerful she looks most of the time! She seems to be serious when she needs to, but she's still a happy soul. She makes a great match for Paulo. A good way to keep him in line. X3

Then that third strip happened.
In only a few moments, Jaz learnt most of Paulo's romantic history, made the decision to stand by the muppet, plotted an escape route of McCain-level brilliance, managed to brief her friends and delivered her own lines to free Paulo. Wow. She even offers a pass on the girlfriend issue.
I was reshipped.

Thus far, there's not a whole weight of canon behind Jazz, the way there is with the big six, who have had chapters and chapters of "This is why Lucy is tsundere, this is why Mike is an butt." Ye can come up with yer own theories about who Jasmine, or Augustus, are as a result of this vacuum. They're kind of like inkblots, and what you see in them isn't so much in the character as it is in your head.
I also like the two of them because they're offering a pressure release for the six-man group. Daisy, you don't actually have to date Michael. Paulo, you don't have to date Lucy. You can all still be friends.
I also think Jazz as a character is super-cute and fun-loving and her hi-jinx provide a neat counterbalance to the Angstylosaurus MikexLucius.
If Taeshi has her hit with a cement truck or something, I will be sad probably
Edit: Whoa why didn't anyone tell me we had these emoticons goodness gracious

Jasmine's cool and collected, she doesn't show her true self unless necessary, and even then she's got more than you bargained for: she fought back when Paulo took her to a horror film and didn't get frightened. Jasmine's more independent person than any other person in the BCB and for that you should be grateful that she doesn't get more time in the comic ("ice time" for all Canadian Bissonnette fans around there). She's like the little sister you're all afraid of who will surpass your achiements.
And the one who will not tolerate it is Paulo. And given the current custom of things, it will be interesting to see how Paulo adjust to new situation, because it's Jasmine who makes the statements from now on.

I'd like to highlight these two sentences. Firstly, she's not independent at all. She's entirely reliant on occupying her time with activities because on her own, she is a singularly boring person who hasn't spent enough time reading books to know what compromise or deceny mean.
Secondly, he's tolerated it pretty well for the past month or so, being shunted to the side in favour of mundane activities that, if I were Paulo, would make me realise she values no one so highly as herself, and would drop that selfish bitch like a sack of five-foot spiders. She's hardly "got it all" when she doesn't really understand a thing about empathy.

I think you all are over thinking this (with Sushi being on the right track, but a little extreme). She's just a freshman in high school. You guys seem to give her too many qualities of grandeur.

Anyways, this isn't going to be a TL;DR post. (Maybe) I like Jasmine because she is cute and seems a little different from the others? I don't know.
Also, I don't know why but I want to call her poppet now. I have problems guys.

I know where its from. Thats the very reason why your a fucking fat pedo, you fat pedo.
Also Jasmine is quite the character in this webcomic. She seems to be allot like Daisy in a way that she is constantly considerate of other people, but somehow not very much about Paulo. Thats a flaw she needs to work on.

Perhaps, in time, you will see that your whinings about her not making time or being terrible are false. Perhaps you will see beyond your pitiful short sighted views and then embrace that which is Jasmine.
We can only hope
