North Korea

They keeping doing things, like shelling South Korean islands, having a very 1984ish dictatorial regime, building nukes, being very, VERY stubborn, and having a leader with the intelligence and demeanor or a small child. Feel free to add other things and discuss.

Vancouver will not save you if the South Koreans are given any real power.

north South Koreans? What?

Canada would be less likely to sign a draft in a war against North Korea.

danm, I made a mistake.
I'll edit it out.

Uhhh...South Korea is on our side. Where've you been? Who do you think markets Hyundai and Kia? Ain't North Korea that's for sure. So why should we fear our allies gaining power as opposed to our enemies? Also this is definetly not NSFW, if anything it's Politics.

Did I take out the wrong word?
at this point I'm just going ot let you people go on with the thread
but you do have to admit that a tiny nation that has caused that much troble needs to stay tiny.
  • #9

Why won't it change back to politics? :(

Sometimes, no, often when an arbitrairy mistake is made like a spelling error or a wrong word or something irrelevant that is said durring an argument happens to be wrong the whole argument gets dissregarded. It is truely a terrable thing.

We're going to get dragged into a war with China because you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can't pick your friend's nose for shelling an island during peacetime.

If your shelling an island you've already ended peacetime.
You just did it while no one was looking.

So lil Kims at it again huh? yes he will try and drag his hulking freind China into it, china will try to drag Russia into it, pakistan will join in because they Hate India and India is the wests buddy, fuck this could get complicated, unless china steps in and tries to calm N.K down for trade sakes with the west

"Ronery", as in "lonely". See Team America. ^_^

That said, North Korea is being frightfully and unnecessarily provocative. They are at fault for this conflict, and not South Korea. I realise I am not saying anything profound and new by this; still, Kim Jong-Il's conduct is not acceptable. I do hope for a peaceful solution to the crisis, but I fear that is not at all possible.

What is this? 1981? Russia doesn't give a shit about China anymore, their on our side again. and they have been for a while.
  • #21

They are on our side as much as long as it isconvient for them to be, The somewhat agressive nature of russia in recent years puts them more in China's camp than the wests. more than likely in the event of a large scale conflict they will side with China
  • #22

K, your not hearing me. RussiaxChina is no more.

Russia and China were never the best of friends at all, really. Mao disliked Stalin, unless memory serves me wrong. ^_^
  • #24

Well they /were/ aligned with each other a long time ago. That's about as far as it goes. and it's not even like that anymore.
  • #25

War is, I think, inevitable. N.Korea does whatever Glorious Leader says, and, as he also has the attention span of a small child, he will soon get bored.
  • #26

And he will lose. China has already said they won't support him in a war unless South Korea attacks first. Chain may be lying but I don't think so, they will probably just throw out another message to the Koreans to 'show restraint'. Still if Kimmy felt the urge to drop a nuke or two before he lost...

I really hope he is wise enough to understand the pointlessness of such an action.

Seoul has 10 million people living in or around it. Tokyo has 30 million living in or around it...the U.S. has a decent enough missle defense system, and North Korea has crappy missles, but both of those cities are really close...
  • #29

Japan does not have a standing army only the JSDF so they do make a tempting target, the U.S. bases are the main defense against Forieng powersit seems
  • #30

Also Taipei...North Korea has a lot large cities in a lot of friendly nations they could damage in their death throes without the need to reach the U.S. or Europe. We have military bases and economic interests in all of these places.

Man, what happened to the good old days when civil war was fun and self-contained? I think it's quite likely that a dynasty as crazy as the Kims will rise to power in South Korea. There's an indomitable superiority complex among Asian countries. I doubt that the U.S. will be able to take any useful action before they've obliterated eachother.

Why?
I like the idea of civle wars staing the fuck in their own country.

North Korea is boned. This is my opinion.
They hopefully don't have the capacity to cause serious damage with Nukes, I'm not sure but I believe their previous missile tests failed miserably.

^^^^^this
leads back to what I said earlyer about it being bad if such a tiny country that had caused such big problems gets any more power(land).
  • #36

Even if they get South Korea how long do you think that'll last for? North Korea is just...no. >:(

Hmmm, perhaps they'll hit China with a faulty missile? That would solve several problems...or possibly create more problems...
  • #38

Nah, China owns us. We'd be boned too in that scenario.

In hindsight it might solve the national debt problem.

Apparently the same concept was used to stir fear in Americans.

Somebody using something to scare Americans for political reasons? *Gasp*

Well fancy that, more conflict in the world. Has this blown into full scale war yet, or just artillery bombardments on eachother/one-sided? Sorry for the ignorance, but I haven't heard much other than the North being a douche to the South again with artillery.

I'll admit it's a little scary, though I would be a little more paranoid if I lived closer. If this does escalate, and it probably will, I'm not worried about getting pulled into service because I don't really think Canada has a draft.

Who do you guys think will answer the call for defense? UN Peacekeepers and the like?
  • #44

I wouldn't worry too much about this leading to war. North Korea recently announced that it had been cheat on its agreement to end it's nuke weaponds program. In response South Korea stopped send humaitarian food aid to North Korea and the USA could possible stop sending energy and finacial assistence to NK that was part of the original agreement. NK is 'rattleing swords' to try and blackmail other countries into continueing or expanding programs to send food, energy, and money to NK.
  • #45

Im not from the EE.UU.. so i can say it.. Stop Helping South korea.. stop.. messing with all the countries in the world.. because war is inavitable there... let them solve their problems alone..
  • #46

South Korea is an important trade partner and ally, there is little chance that we would leave them on their own
  • #47

North Korea is about to get what they deserve! We can own anybody in the world you name it and if they can be them then we have a secret weapon. The Navy SEALs. Rating number one special forces in the world for thier amazing training, weapon training, and hand to hand combat training. They train for three tears and the drop out rate is around 80%. So North Korea? Bring it on!! DX

North Korea just scares me with how such a crazy leader has such powerful weapons. If anything they are a likely candidate for what's gonna causes the next great war.
  • #49

Ok. Since it seems most people are confused. Ill make a list of whos on South Korea's side and whos on North Korea that I know about.

North Korea
China
Cuba
South Korea
USA
Canada
Australia
Mostly all of Europe
Russia
Japan

Countries in Africa, South America or other parts of asia Im not so sure cause I havent heard much from them.
