One complaint :(

They also plot. Nasty, dastardly plots. With much sneering, laughing, secret plans, and evidently a huge grudge.

I suspect it all ends with Daisy and Tess tied to railroad tracks, making the summer arc foreshadowing Paulo's decision! Sadly, Abbey beats him up and saves Daisy, while Tess... returns to her home planet.

I have a complaint.

This Augustus/Alejandro business. This is a high school, not a criminal organization and if Augustus is working with someone for some stupid criminal plot, then that is just completely and utterly retarded.

They are teenagers, not criminal masterminds.

AMEN!!! Tae just needs to write him off(I got a few ideas cough overdose cough raped/murdered cough) and let the high school shenanigans continue.

See here's what's funny: everyone assumes Alejandro is a criminal mastermind.

I love theories that are completely wrong~

What I don't like is trying not to word of god because when incorrect theories are muttered multiple times I feel like wanting to set things straight, but part of the fun is seeing people question intentions of characters and what's going to happen.. so when the revelation comes they're surprised!

(though I agree if I ever remade BCB into a shorter more succinct story Augustus would stay and his unexplained reasons would be different. Alejandro would be absolutely rewritten, and if I could, removed entirely. I'm kind of at a point where I have no choice but to work at that, even though I already have plans that aren't as melodramatic and mafia-ridden as people think. )

But on the other hand comedy would mostly disappear in favour of telling the story. So only the small nice bits of humour would remain. SO SO MUCH FOR HUMARS

Basically, "Meet the Boss" is BCB Canon.
  • #62

Exactly. With some silly French independent film type high school drama as a filler for a few years.
  • #63

I never saw Meet the Boss, but then I still haven't seen Fullmetal Jacket.

Uh, if you didn't want drama why are you reading something that's full of it? XD

It is hilarious yes, but it's supposed to follow a dramatic and semi comedic story. There's bound to be bad snu snu. I mean ju ju. Well, the both of them.

Well, he lives in a bad part of the city, he wears gang clothes, he has a big ugly guy who beats people up for him, plus Augustus. They hang out in a bar, he beats up a bunch of younger kids because they owe him 20 bucks, and he nearly rapes Lucy.

He is essentially an ordinary street gang leader.

I don't agree. He is a simple raper. Nothing more :D

On the other hand, in my fanfict I made him as a gang leader... because it was more interesting for what I wanted to write :D

That's just how he introduces himself.

"Hello, I'm Alejandro, and I'll be raping you today."

I really want to see them take revenge and how they will do it. Because I will shit brix if its awesome. But he isn't a a evil mastermind or anything, he just a thug with a few followers.
  • #69

Revenge is for people with nothing more important to focus on. The BCB cast has WAY more important stuff than tracking down Alejandro. The only one they'd go after is Augustus becuase he follows them around.

I went back into the archives the other day and read the first few chapters again, and ya know what I did? I laugfed my ass off. But that made me think, what has this comic come to? It's not funny anymore! These chapters recently, have been nothing but bad crap happening! I've herd the advice "torture the protagonist" by this is rediculous! It's really gone from a sclice of life, to a slice of the dark side. I don't know how you plan to fix this, or if you plan to fix it at all, but I know you can think of something.

Drama is the bitter that offers stark contrast the sweet comedic releif of Bittersweet Candy Bowl

maybe, but now there isn't even that. there's hardly comic relief, and when there it is it's not natural. Like that sudden change to a one-paged chapter of Mike and Paulo playing Video Games together? what was that? it's why characters like David, Carter, getting fucked in the ass, and those retards are so lovable. because they feel like that. They come off naturally like these really happy and meaning characters. For David he's just a ditzy friend to everyone, Carter was likable because he was supposed to be that insane, from upbringing and even to serious moments (and you know what one serious moment I'm talking about) it never seems like he changes. unlike Mike, and Lucy, and everyone the reason we like these characters is because they do have some other emotions. they can be serious, they can be sad, they can be lonely, but it doesn't take away who they are. you can still say that this is our lovable joking David, and that's just Carter being Carter. They were funny because they tried to be, while at the same time staying their character. Paulo drastically changed from this dorky playboy, to some dramatic nut. I understand that they go through changes and there are times when they grow up but for Paulo he just became a lot less playful jerk that would casually try to get with girls. As for Mike and Lucy I loved their characters. You understood who they were. you could tell that Lucy was stubborn, she was hard-headed, but she needed a push, a reality check to bring her to her senses. Mike was a relatable character. I understood his motivation, I could say that if I were in his shoes I'd probably do the same thing. But then it just dropped. Mike started becoming more broody, and aggressive. I understand he was tired of her shit, but he should've understood. It's been shown that they were friends for most of their lives so he would understand the difference between her trying to use him, and her actually being sincere. Sure he gets a girlfriend but so what? He lost relatability because if I got a fucking girlfriend I wouldn't ignore my life-long friend. And don't tell me he didn't think of her as a friend and more like a chore. Because Mike should know this, he talked about how Lucy needed him, and wanted to be there for her. A life-time with someone would give you ample time to understand, and he understood! He knew the effect it had when he ignored Lucy and played with Sandy, he learned about how it made her feel, and he felt bad about it. Remember that? WELL APPARENTLY HE DIDN'T! Because now he's doing it again! The whole thing about Sandy is the same problem I had with Jasmine. I couldn't care about the character because I was expected to understand this character but I don't know anything about her. Sandy was brought in early on, and before that was alright; It was a back-story and it worked well because it developed Mike and Lucy, and their relationship with each other. We didn't need to know about Sandy because she wasn't being important. Now she's being introduced into the story, but we know just as much about her as we did back then. Alright I get it, she's a super model, she's a caring girlfriend. I get that, but it's just so plain! The character is relatable, but it's as relatable as some guy turning on the oven to cook. IT'S AN EVERYDAY THING! Great now we know that Sandy is human! what a shock! It would've been great if we had kept her longer, had her stay like a week or so and have an ark that told more about how she was and show her being with Mike, but no! it's like every other time we get sandy. She's here for like one time, and then gone, we see him talk about her, and have her on the phone, but that doesn't give us a good look on the relationship. What's worse is that she's still in the story so you know she's coming back later but I don't even know how long that will last. It wouldn't be so bad if we knew more about her, gave her more personality for us to go off of, but right now she's as plain as cardboard smothered with Vanilla and it's just messing up everything.

sorry i couldn't keep reading if you think those one-note characters are anything but one-note characters

also the fact if you're gonna write something huge, you should use paragraphs. A wall of text can be irritating to read and not encouraging.

imo there was a tonal shift around summer vacation and since then the comic is better and that's why vol 1 is only good for backstory and people who prefer it to vol 2+ are people with entirely valid opinions who i must agree to disagree with
  • #74

David is deceptively introspective.

He's like the failed space heater in a double wide trailer slowly spreading carbon monoxide on Christmas Eve until the entire white trash family is dead.

(Which is, by far, the best thing about Christmas in Texas.)

I meant to add "in a benevolent way," but trailer trash corpses are already pretty great.
