Man I don't wanna do that webcam shit. If I wanted to sit around and talk to people through the Internet I'd load up skype right now :| I think that's silly. I'd rather be doing other things at that time.

Yeah, I'm not exactly great at this whole "planning" thing. :/

It's OK. All you really need to make this happen is some wine, croissants and good talk.

Will there be another one?

expect to be paying around $10 a meal for local cuisine, possibly more. if you want mcdonalds, you'll be paying a lot less, but i know some people want more local, unique eating.

$10 sounds rather cheap for good cuisine. Oh wellllssss

Currently contemplating a date change. Let me know if you bought tickets.
  • #110

Move me to "can't go". In summer the ticket prizes can mount up to 1000€, even more. Next time I hope.
  • #111

I have not bought tickets yet, but a date change may change my status of being able to go. It depends on the date. What dates are you considering changing it to?
  • #112

To elucidate: there is a convention on in Connecticut on this weekend that I am trying to find out if we can get into. If we cannot, then we may as well keep the date for BCBCon as is. If we can, I would want to work out who would be inconvenienced, how much money those who booked tickets would have to pay to change their dates, and both pay those fees and relocate it. But this is all contingent on that con. The email should come soon.

What was the original date? July 14-17, I guess? I dunno, people could suggest a date. June 30 - July 3?
  • #113

The weekend before July 4th would be a terrible choice for me because my dad claims all prices will be raised everywhere and I would no longer be able to go because of this.

yeah. july 4th weekend is bad news.
  • #115

This is going to be difficult to manage, as we're only in the US for three and a half weeks, and we arrive and leave on weekends. We have to consider that weekends will allow people with jobs to come more easily, but the only two weekends that sit comfortably within the time we have in the US are the July 4 weekend, and the July 8-10 weekend following (which is taken up by Connecticon, which we MAY be going to on 8-10.)

The choices:
  • June 25-June 28, Monday to Thursday, right after we arrive.
  • June 30-July 3, Thursday to Sunday.
  • July 11-14, Monday to Thursday, immediately after the dates set and immediately before we leave at 10am on the 15th.

Any other date range could work, but our options for weekends are limited. I feel like whatever issue exists with the weekend of July 4 is going to be less of an issue than the alternative of doing it in the middle of a week, but I am not sure on this point.
  • #116

Weekdays I would highly frown on. 3 days works really well for me to take off work, 5 days not so much. Tis silly but it's easier for me to get part of my week in for work so I can at least keep tabs on the start of the weeks work so I'm not out of the loop for current clients + money.

July 4th couldn't care less personally, but I can't imagine it being a good time to be in any american city during the fourth of July. Lots of busyness and tourists and closing no?

I'm not really the con type, but I assume you two want a booth for the con? If not, What is everyone's thoughts on potentially making Thursday a con day? Edit : Mebbe not, seems it's farther from boston then i thought. For those that need to know, about 1 hour 20 minutes out give or take depending on traffic.

It's not absurdly far from Boston. I was thinking about that. If, say, we chose to go there on Saturday and Sunday only, perhaps you BCB people could do your own thing on Saturday, and come to visit us on Sunday. Or similar. That way we could retain the existing dates.

If I may ask: Why is ConnectiCon important?

Seems like the focus should be on BCBcon, not ConnectiCon.

Wacko is right, I also have to question the importance of this convention.

I would like to think as your fans we matter a little bit more than some stupid little nerd gathering where they nosebleed to pictures of, say, Flora or whatever her name is in half-naked, porn-esque situations or genderbent animals, or even talk about World of Gaycraft like Nerdmouse.

I mean honestly we're all shelling out money to ferry our lard asses to the Eastern Seaboard to see you folks, not attend some stupid nerd gathering. I want to meet Suitcase and potentially murder Taeshi, not walk around for eleven hundred hours doing nerd things at a nerdy convention in Connerdicut. I certainly won't waste my money to do that, either.

ConnetiCon isn't half as important as we are and I should be insulted you wish to drop dates so you can go sodomize Macs with other like-minded nerds, Suitcase. I am ashamed of you. ASHAMED.

SpaceMouse was worried about the hotel pricing. There is less than a 10% increase in price, if we book in advance.

Essentially, for June 30 - July 3, it's $722 per room, if we cheat a little on the per person rate. Let's assume we have two rooms of poor people (six people, so two on the floor) and two rooms of normal people (five people, only one on the floor.) The poor ones pay $120, the normal people $144.

This seems reasonable for three nights. It's a four day trip.

As for why Connecticon being important - we live in Australia, and going to the US is expensive and difficult. We are spending at least $5000 to be in America for this short period. So the idea that there is a nearby comic convention with a bunch of webcomic bigshots is very appealing to me, as I think it'd be a very informative experience for the both of us. I think BCB is a comic designed to help Veronica figure out how to make a comic, and it seems to me that conventions are a relevant thing to do to promote your comic and get to know people. To be more specific, I would be very interested to do a real comic convention so we know if it's worthwhile planning trips to the US specifically for further conventions.

If this causes a huge amount of pain to people, we won't do it, and BCBCon will remain on the dates picked. But I am getting the feeling it's not actually going to do a lot of pain to anyone except TD and Ace, who I would plan to subsidise the change fees for.

the boston-harvard drive is shit. connecticut is full of construction and strict police. it may be a short distance, but it's a really, really crappy drive.

that being said, i will probably head down saturday for the day to go to the con if you two will be there.
  • #122

Is there public transport there? How much?
  • #123

Admit it. You just want to go to Connecticon so that you can meet up meet up with the creator of Goblins and work on your BCB-Goblins crossover comic. ;)

Also, if we couldn't make it to the new dates, could we meet you at Connecticon? Maybe head out to dinner after the con some evening?

well, there's undoubtedly bus lines. megabus probably.
  • #125

June 30-July 3

Weekend trip is very nice, but why ConnitiCon???
  • #126

Its not the end of the world if you change it, but we're talking about $170 difference, though I might be able to negotiate it down to $70 (as that is the ticket price differential, because it is more expensive to fly in and out those days apparently). I'd have to call up the airline and see if I could negotiate it down, as we're still months out and neither flight is even close to sold out.
  • #127

Still waiting on a response as to whether they even have a table for us.
  • #128

I managed to talk it over with my dad and now he's reluctantly agreeing that it would be okay to go on the weekend before July 4th. Now I just have to hope that the family doesn't feel the need to show love towards one another and have a reunion.
  • #129

This BCBcon sounds like its gonna be the one heck of a get together, I know I'll be getting $300 for house sitting for a week at the end of May so I might come, I'll see if my friend (BearKidney) would wanna come as well. (That if I come I'm still undecided) :smirk:

What about BCBCon remaining on the same dates, and Veronica and I heading down to set up a stall early Saturday morning and coming back Saturday night? We'd still get to do the con, on the busiest day, and still have Sunday with you guys. Or maybe because Sunday is a half-day anyway, we could alter that? What would be the appealing options for people there?

Remember I am not saying the dates are any different yet. I'm exploring our options. So if you're having a freakout and upsetting parents and stuff, it wasn't quite the intention.

i guess it depends on what your reasons for coming to boston are / holding bcbcon.

The more i read up on the particular con, the more I'm actually interested in actually having one of the days there, with you two holding a booth and the rest of us walking around. The cost of attending is what we would normally spend in a day to begin with. And getting over there is a possibility with busing/driving.

I know personally that I've only gone to anime north up here, so I'd be down to see an american Con if it works out during the trip down there.

Is it odd to say that I really hope the dates change? Like that would be some kind of Christmas present for me or something.

And honestly it would be kind of shitty to have a day where y'all are at a convention boothing, and I can see that being trouble for certain people, especially those who have to come with parents and then transporting costs, etc. etc.
  • #134

Is it that shitty? First of all, transport will be of minimal cost, and second of all, there will almost certainly be a split where half of you want to do something boring and split off for an afternoon. Saturday could be that day.

Curses I've been found out...

I don't really have any arguments that aren't floundering excuses here beyond "Hey, people came to see you and experience boston and do things etc etc." But well that falls into the floundering category.

Sooo yeah, It's just an big deal to me if the dates get moved is all, something I'd like to start planning for if that is the case.
  • #136

Why do you want the dates to change? I don't really understand.

Hmmm? Oh it's a personal reason, the gaming group down here decided to host it's third annual WarGamesCon which I've been to the last two. I know the people who run it and it's always quite the blast. However I have committed to BcBcon and will not back out for something that will occur next year anyways. Now if the dates were to change then I'd have the best of both worlds! But I don't expect y'all to change anything because of that.

Well tbh I was upset about the date change because of Toasty, but it sounds like that's getting sorted so I'm feeling more at ease, and yeah some BCBers can come and keep me company as well ;__;
  • #139

Actually I like the idea of visiting the Con on Saturday. There are alot of web comic artist's there from web comics I read. I will have to check if they have day passes to the con, because $50 is alot for a partial day at a con. (Althogh it wouldn't be unheard of for me.)

Edit:
I just checked the website and it is $40 for a Saturday pass. I can swing that, but it might be to much for others. Maybe that would be a good time for the others that want to go to the arcade.

who would be around that weekend to drive down to the con for the day? i have a car.
  • #141

I have no problems with this. It doesn't matter to me what date it's on as long as I know in advance, because being low on the totem pole at work means I have last pick of vacation days. Price matter to me either. Just make sure to tell us if things are changing so I can re do all my vacation signing and such.

Either one would work for me, but personally I would prefer the original dates with going to the Con.
  • #144

Yeah now that both dates work for me, I wouldn't mind hitching a ride to Connecticon and helping to boost the number of BCB fans in attendance. I will get to stand in front of your booth and shout, "CATS. CATS. WE HAVE CATS. MEET THE CREATORS OF BEE SEE BEE THE INTERNET COMIC SENSATION!" All while wearing my barn owl mask. Oh it will be glorious.

I will start writing down things to say. "The fur covered sensation that's sweeping the nation!" "This high school has curves alright! Grading curves!" I am so excited.

UGH

Now I've got to get dragged along to this boring nerd convention too.

God damn it fine I'll just sit at the table or something and read while listening to music or some shit. The date change wasn't really that annoying to begin with, I suppose.
  • #146

No one said that you had to go to the convention.
I am guessing that there will be others that either don't want to go or cannot afford to go. In that case they can go do something else as a group.

We don't have to do everything as a group. The shower would get really cramped in that case.
  • #147

Sounds like a fun shower to me.

You seem to be forgetting the guy/girl ratio of the BCBcon. D:
  • #149

I will more than likely be in the group that does not go to the convention.
Those things are just fucking troublesome :nope: .

Other than that annoying bit, the any date change won't affect me. I'm good with anything.
