There's a small chance for me be there now, I just need the visa pass.(Chance to get it is like 50% for me.)
  • #55

Alright, should I start getting my parents to send the money now? Or should be myself and wait until the last minute :/
  • #56

Not yet. Maybe soon.

No age requirements, but we'll be annoyed at people that have to have their parents with them.

Kou, do you also have the thousands of dollars?

Also, I looked up specific prices using some of the discount offers we can get with various chains. Assuming 5 per room (one person on the floor) I can find a Holiday Inn in the heart of the city for $130 pp for the whole three days. This would become $105 in a room where two sleep on the floor.

I also found a Holiday Inn express that would be $90, though it is a moderate subway ride out of town, and Spacemouse said it'd be $2 there and back, which we'd do multiple times. So basically 100 vs 130 including transport costs, and the more expensive one would save us time and be a fair bit nicer (Proper Holiday Inn instead of crappier Holiday Inn Express)

Of course, going further downmarket, $90 and lower might be possible. What do people think of these prices? I'd prefer the better place, personally
  • #57

i fully agree on a proper holiday inn. i also currently dont know if i can go, with or without parents, or will be able to make the moeny in time. so id proly say place me in possibly probable please.

If we are going to have people not sleeping directly on a bed, go for the better place. Better standards of cleaning, and better chance the last person before you had some sort of decent standard of hygiene

Mark me down as improbable. Depends on a lot of factors for me.

Few miles off the coast of Japan
  • #62

nope.
  • #63

@Meowth Sarcasm is not lost to me you know. And judging by your answer, Boston is in the USA.
  • #64

Pants, I think it's inevitable that we will, to save money for the cheaper ones.

Wolf, what?
  • #65

I think I'd rather the nicer hotel. I've never stayed in a hotel before, so I'd like to have a nice experience while I'm there.

While I'm on that particular subject, I WOULD rather a bed if at all possible. But I don't care if I've gotta share a twin or something. It's all good.

Incidentally, if anybody is planning to stay longer than the intended "con", I'll be around for a 2 week period somewhere interlacing with the con dates, so you're unlikely to be alone!

If you're going to compare hotels and such, you may want to hop onto TripAdvisor. Hotels are ranked by popularity, and you can sort by price. Reading the latest reviews for a hotel is also quite helpful and gives an idea of what to expect.

tripadvisor actually is in the middle of a lawsuit right now, involving hotels artifically inflating their own rankings and deflating competitors. make sure to actually look at some of the reviews. if they seem suspicious, they probably are.

My rating of a hotel depends on how much blood one is reported to find in any given room of the hotel.

Hmm, I have used TripAdvisor to check out hotels before, and never ran into a problem with my chosen picks. Thanks for the warning though, SpaceMouse. I do read the reviews, usually at least the first 20 for any place I'm considering.

For the more downtrodden places, the reviews make for some horrific yet strangely enthralling reading. "Stay here if you love blood on your comforter and want to be close to strip clubs!" XD

I was trying to formulate a joke about Dwight's beet farm but failed

*sigh* Guess I better book a flight, the rising gas prices are starting to drag flight prices up

My moneh shall be sent in April

I'd be happy with the nicer one, personally, for all of the obvious reasons. I mean, it's not "break the bank" upgrade we're talking about here, and it'd just be a lot nicer.

Also, what are you guys doing about the legal issues surrounding minors staying in a hotel room that you or someone else above 18 got without parental supervision? I mean, it could be as simple as a paper the parents could sign and fax you excusing you of all responsibility if their child got hurt or broke something, but I ask because I hadn't noticed anything before about it.

Good point. At the boardie meet-ups organized on the other main comic board I post on, everyone under 18 needed to sign a parental consent/release form.

Giving any paper notice means that they should have some legal responsibility to begin with. It's not a baby sit sort of event :P

If you come, you take the responsibility of taking care of yourself and so forth. Nothing with this con is formal or otherwise, it's just a pile of random people who are walking around boston together and sharing hotel rooms.

I think the point is more that if the kid breaks something in the hotel, and their name isn't on the list because they're too young to sign anything, then SuitCase would be liable and have to pay the damages? I think?
  • #79

Hey there Suit, when(end of March whoops) and how much money do I need to send as a "I am coming" thing, and how do I go about sending it?

On the topic of hotels, I don't really have a true preference but if I had to pick one I would personally go with the cheaper.

There will be no permission slips, and yes, Vero and I will be fucked over if you misbehave. I hope people aren't like that.

I am right now thinking it should be around $80, Carmen. As I don't think we'll find anything cheaper than that, and it's a large enough sum that people will be upset to forfeit.

I think I'll PM-spam everyone on the list first, though, and make them decide whether they can come or not.

@ Suit: Hey, I'm going to be in Holland in May and I was thinking maybe me and whoever's part of the European BCB could have a miniature BCBCon or something for anyone on that continent that can't make it to Boston in July, and maybe make it official by meeting you and Taeshi on webcam. I'm just throwing this out here that I could possibly take some initiative and see if anyone in the European fandom would be interested. Like, if ILB wanted to hang out or something. It doesn't have to happen, I'm just throwing an idea into the hat.
  • #82

ha that's kind of gay but yeah sure okay

get pictures of ILB

Oh dear. ^_^

But really, I would not be able to come. I have exams in that period of time, so it would be a remarkably bad time for me to go out of the country.

I applaud the idea and the effort, though, if said things come to fruition.
  • #84

Well, I'll start a thread anyway and if there's enough interest it could be doable, I suppose.

@ Suit: Out of curiosity, which part of that was gay? Was it the webcam thing? Because I kind of think the same thing about that too. Still, there's a lot of European fans so it'd make sense to give them the opportunity to meet up.

Oh well. I'll play this by ear and see what kind of momentum this gets.
  • #85

I dunno. I guess the webcam thing.

Also, if ILB does not come to you, you come to ILB
  • #86

Suit, there are legal issues with anyone under 18 just being there without parental supervision, or express written consent. You guys could be in far worse than just trouble, and if someone's parents overreacted and sued you'd be beyond screwed.
Something as simple as "I let my snot nosed brat stay with all of these people in Boston and in this hotel. I also promise not to be a burden on all things good and sue if they act like an idiot or get themselves hurt" and you'd be good. Hell, ask wacko for one of those slips he was talking about, and change a few words here and there. Worst case scenario you have anyone under 18 bring it to the hotel and give it to you, and if they don't, so? Then, if they don't, nothing bad has happened, and if they do, then you have a legal out just in case.
  • #87

I really don't think that's necessary.

If shit happens, SuitCase and Taeshi can always flee back to Australia. :D
  • #89

Yeah, well the webcam thing was just an afterthought anyway and I'd have no qualms doing away with that part.

Also, I think even if you don't think permission slips are necessary it'd be a good idea to have your ass covered just in case. Just my two cents.
  • #90

No, what the fuck? That's weird. Stop it.

I wouldn't mind a miniBCBcon in Europe seeing as I live there ;) Jerk had mentioned to me that he was coming to Holland and, like he said, if anybody else within europe would be able to come we might be able to pull it off. My mom lets me travel within the country but if intercontinental travel is involved, then she needs to be there ಠ_ಠ.

Although it wouldn't matter cause I'll be turning 18 before then :3

Alright, but it seemed like a fairly worthwhile point to make. Fingers crossed no one does something stupid.

And if it helps, I am positive that I am going, so you can move me to "Certain".

Man I don't wanna do that webcam shit. If I wanted to sit around and talk to people through the Internet I'd load up skype right now :| I think that's silly. I'd rather be doing other things at that time.

Also LemoCon had 15-16 year olds and we survived just fine without paranoid parents having tantrums. It's just a meetup, it's not a real con.
