So it's basically a first person Dead Rising 2.

Except that Dead Rising 2 knew that it what it was trying to be, wacky and awesome. Dead Island is trying to be both wacky and realistic/serious, which is of course trying to have your cake and eat it as well.

Oh yeah totally a first person Dead Rising 2, except for the differences in story and setting, the game play and combat style, the special abilities, the existence of more than two types of zombies, modification of weapons and not just the combining two different things, the fact that enemies range in levels and difficulty, four player co-op, and different characters to play as with unique skills.
Just like how Gears of War is basically just a third person Halo, or how Dead Space was just Resident Evil in space.

Time to put on my rantin' boots!
I love how "It has zombies in it" immediately means "Oh, well, I have seen this all before! No one can ever create something new and interesting in THIS genre, no sir!"
Really, why mention a single franchise of games that for the purposes of naming we will call zombie apocalypse games? Let me ask, does Dead Rising play like Left 4 Dead? Do either play like the original Resident Evils that had zombies? Or even the newer ones? Just because it has zombies doesn't mean it's going to be identical to every other game, and even if it is, could one think that maybe they might improve on it? Make a better Left 4 Dead style game, which is unlikely, because why go through the trouble to make another L4D game when Valve has done two? I'm saying that having zombies in a game does not make it into a genre. Hell, lets look again at the Left 4 Dead series with a quick Google search, just to be fair. Survival Horror genre. Dead Island? Oh, weird, this says Horror Action Adventure! Hmm. Well, I'm sure another zombie game will be exactly the sam-oh, what's that House of the Dead? Rail Shooter?
You know what? This has to be wrong. I mean, I can't look at games like Zombies Ate My Neighbors, Killing Floor, Typing of the Dead, and Stubbs the Zombie in Rebel Without a Pulse without seeing the same game! They are all so identical! Really!
Oh, and while I personally love the trailer, about the game? We still know next to nothing about the game being good or not. But the people they hired to make the trailer are really good! And I hope the game can live up to that.
