Graf stop being so British.

Gnukko you go to the beach to get IN the sun.
  • #852

I wanted to post a picture of me again.

This was taken last month. A haircut policy keeps me from growing it long now. They also don't allow mustaches. And my webcam cheats, the brightness and contrast was already in the negatives when I took that picture.

They? D:
  • #854

Anything that would forbid me from having long hair just wouldn't be worth it.
  • #855

By they I meant the university I go to. It's sort of owned by priests who can overrule anything the deans or whoever administrates the colleges say. They also implemented uniforms, and made the university newspaper club to disband for criticizing them. We're not even allowed to wear non-issue ID slings. I miss my long hair.
  • #856

That's like 50 different kinds of bullshit right there.
  • #857

What fascist labor camp university do you attend?

Tell that to my sunburns and my albino skin
  • #859

There's nothing wrong with dress codes and limitations on hair and piercings and shit. it makes your school look distinguished, and with uniforms no one is classified by their clothing, the rich and the poor are the same.
and it's only for a while anyways
  • #860

Completely destroying individuality is kinda a douche thing to do.
  • #861

I put holes in my lips and eyebrows! I'm unique! Look at me!

It takes skill and creativity to work around dress constraints and still stand out.

This looks interesting. Should I put a picture of myself here?

I think uniforms are pretty great, honestly. No paranoia about trying to fit in with brands, no finicking and panicking about what to wear each day since it's already there for you, no ability to completely stereotype and bully others for what they wear, I think it's a pretty good system, and it can look pretty nice. I do kind of feel bad I didn't have uniforms in high school back at home, and I used to be one of those that bitched about the whole FREEDOM they're taking away BOO HOO by adding uniforms OH NO

then i came to australia and noticed all schools have uniform, and I saw first-hand the advantages. I think it's weird your uni has it, but hey you could always go to another one.

also i swear i thought you were 12 mousecat hahah
  • #865

While we all got used to the uniforms, and it does look nice in a way... it looks terrible with tight fit jackets. And the ID sling was pushing it. If they start requiring us to use university issued bags then students are really going to protest.

... I turn 20 in November?

Uniforms leave a little for individuality, while keeping everyone looking nice.
plus with no pre-judgments your personality is more important, and more appreaciated
  • #869

^+1

I wore a uniform on Harry Potter day (we don't have a dress code). I felt really cool.
  • #870

Uniforms give an illusion of a united student body. If you don't feel like you belong, you at least look like you do. And while it does keep everyone looking nice with policies and guidelines, it also says 'This is the definition of 'nice', your individuality is wrong. Keep it outside with the uneducated/poverty stricken.' There will always be pre-judgement, you underestimate how shallow everyone has always been. If they can't judge your clothes, they'll judge your face/gender/ethnicity.

Besides. I refuse to fully accept a uniform policy that recommends white socks with black leather shoes. Just, no.
  • #871

Of course i underestimate it, i never grew into an adult, i was born one, never went through a teenage stage.

i don't think it says individuality is wrong, seeing as they don't tell you that you can't have any outside activities, or you can't listen to this music or that, it just makes displaying it challenging, again, your personality and opinions becomes your definition of self, to you and those around you
  • #872

But... there's still a child stage.

And true if personality and opinions does define you, it's not necessarily visible to others. Given that there are people who does not like talking to anyone at all. What degrees of personality can you get from the introvert percentage of the student body- who choose not to show their opinions and such? And the opinions that does come out are modified by a need to fit in. Unsatisfactory to an age group the believes their opinions must be heard. Uniforms give the students less choices in showing individuality, in turn, there are some unable to force themselves to use the allowed choices and just decide to do nothing of the above. Further isolating them, causing teen angst or some other exaggerated existential problem. Did that make sense?

I think this is out of topic for this thread.

Nnnnnnnnnnnnah.

Can't be.
  • #874

well uniforms will never solve teen angst, cause teens will always be over dramatic and stupid.
yeah, what ya gonna do? :P

those who choose to be introverts are just shit-outa-luck, it's their own fault they have no public personality
even so, most people can find someone else to connect with.

i forgot to say, i think your hair is really charming in that pic, MC

Kids are gonna be shallow assholes anyway. Having a dress code is fine, keep everyone from looking like dirty sluts. Even a relatively strict dress code (nice shirts but no t-shirts, no jeans, no short skirts, etc.) is fair enough in my books, but school uniforms is overdoing it. Why does everyone need to be forced to dress exactly the same? That's stifling to individuality. Sure, it takes fashion out of the equation, but think about it, you're probably not gonna like someone any more whether or not they dress in a way you approve of. If people are that shallow enough already, they're gonna be just as shallow with or without a uniform, it doesn't solve anything. There's no harm in giving them a reasonable chance to express themselves through clothing.
  • #876

I like a woman in uniform.
  • #877

That teens would outgrow being shallow is ideal, meaning it won't happen. Adults are superficial, preferrably less, at worst way more.
