Forum Communities
Anyway, we have a tight kind of community, hidden from the rest of internet. Civilised and stuff. And I was wondering, how close exactly is this forum? Because, at first glance, it seems very quick and filled with all sorts of people, but do any of you see a connection or community you have?
It's a vague question yes, but I philosophise. So, how is your community here?
(Also, helpful for me, because I've decided I should post on more forums, and this forum seems okay.)

And this coming from an semi-old fag should tell you something, cause to be honest I've found a particular type of family in this forum that's hard to find anywhere else on the internet in such a short of amount of time.

There, there, Sushikins. There, there.
To be fair, this community is a little bit polarising. There are a lot of nice folks on here, and I'd like to think I come across as pleasant enough, but there is a certain tendency to have multiple standards. If whf acts like an annoying dick, we find it cute and amusing. If some random new poster notices this and does the same, the steel jaws of the forum do tend to snap down.
Once you're accepted, though, everything's pretty good. Even if the philosophical turf wars get a bit heated occasionally.

The main other community I post on is the CRFH forum, which has evolved over the years. It once was a loud and somewhat chaotic community, similar to the BCB forums of today. Nowadays we're smaller, quieter, and more sedate and thoughtful in our postings. The "old guard" are now mainly only seen on IRC, and they don't talk much about the comic anymore.
As for the BCB forum? It is still in the midst of childhood. It, too, will grow up in time, I expect. We do have our cliques here, but that's the nature of an exuberant and active community. The main rule is to not take things too seriously. Most people who follow that rule will do just fine, wherever or however much they choose to post.

An interesting parable, considering that what makes up these layers is mostly pus and excrement and secretions. ^_^
That said, the forum is... Well, it is not all that tight-knit, really. Not that we are just fleeting or something, but no, I would not call it tight-knit by any standards.
We do have a lot of smaller communities, though, and these definitely have a lot of togetherness. For instance, we have the Skype society, the ragtag RCers, the IRC elite (plus the periphery surrounding them), the roleplaying ruckus, the voicechat venturers, the forumites, the social students, and so on. They are relatively open to each other (not counting the IRC/RC conflict), but there is also a distance between them. And they all have their definite shortcomings when it comes to socialising.
Oh, wait, we have also recently acquired the band of BCItes.

It's hard to explain really.
But it's how I acquired the use of language and grammar to convey mood, rather than emoticons, images and so on.
