and I want to be eaten by the fox.

but I am merely dirt
running through your hands
staining them as I fall.

I want to be your prey
Am I not good enough meat for you?
Am I not tempting enough for you to take a bite?
I suppose you want a rabbit of skin and bones
but that will not keep you full for long.

You are a meat eater
I do not understand why you continue to chew on their marrow
wondering why your hunger will not subside.
I am dependent on you
and I fear you.

You are a perfect predator
I want to be between your white shining teeth
my blood dripping down your throat.
Maybe you should be dependent on me.

You do not see me hiding behind the leaves
you know I am there.
I want to open my mouth
to let you know I am right here
waiting for you
but you know I am not supposed to run out of the bushes.

I am sitting here
waiting for you
just a little bite
I need to know you are real.

It is winter now
and I have grown a new coat
while you were gone.
I have changed
I blend in with the snow now.

I see you wander on
searching to satisfy your hunger
you have continued for so long
starving.

You walk alone
and I hide in my hole
waiting for the storm to pass.

but I am not strong enough
to pull you in.

How do you survive on your own?
I know I could not.
I see you wander
from fox to fox
you go on
and you are more alive
than I will ever be.

You are at the top of the food chain
and I will never be able
to be as great as you.

The snow is coming down harder
please come in
you are so cold out there
I can see you shivering
we could both
hide here.

You shift past
and I am caught
out in the open
you run fast
and the prey meets predator.

Your eyes are tantalizing
they shine and drawn me in
I am memorized
caught in the temptation
to scream
to yell
but I am stuck here
mouth wide open
as you race past
freezing my heart.

Of course like every time
I regain my footing
and pick myself off the ground
and keep moving on
waiting for another moment
to see you.

I endure
with a cough in my throat
because my heart is stuck
and it will not bleed out.

I stop myself
in the slow motion world
that I believe in
to realize
you are my obsession
my wanting devours me.

I am starving.
Shall I wither away?
Oh how I wish I could
but I need to wither away
beside you.

I do not understand how you run through the thorns so easily
you show no fear
and come out the end with no cuts or wounds.
When I take one step
every gash reopens and bleeds
then reheals
to be opened again.

I remember in the past
when the seeing you now was the seeing you again.
Back then
I barely knew your call
but I wanted your all.

It had been so long
since I had set my wanting eyes on you
I hoped and feared your siliouete
and your wandering vision
to fall upon me.

Please do not look at me
I am poison to your perfection
but your perfection is my poison.

You can run for miles over hills
and do not stop until the sun goes down.
I can only stagger through the grassy fields
like the wounded animal that I am.

If I clung onto you as you ran
would you slow down from my weight?
Or would instead help you run farther
faster and stronger
so we could travel to the ends of the earth.

Help me face my fears
with your outstretched hand.
If I could get my heart out of my throat
could you hold and keep it warm?

I know what you are and I know what I am
maybe I am not your fantasy
but I will do all I can
to keep the fox's heart beating
even if I am the bunny that ran.
