    My two thoughts about this are both centered around an idea that Lucy wasn't 'depressed' enough or rather 'cared' too much about just a physical relationship and ended up thinking it was a bad idea, or Paulo was putting on a brave face to annoy Mike and really he ran out.

    I'm not quite sure about that - Lucy seems to have her head on her shoulders (maybe not so much after this last page) but I don't think she's saying that to 'revert' Paulo. Maybe on the next page she'll be all: "JK JK just spit it out" but if not she's just gonna go with it, probably in the same way Spacemouse theorized.
