So Mike goes into shock right after the announcement - I guess the teacher wouldn't be able to say much, I seem to recall back in the day you were lucky to get an in-depth reason for someone leaving school unless it was something like cancer. Usually you only hear that they are "ill" or they moved to another school.
Mike maybe only just began to realize how much his words cut into Lucy at the play, considering he focused on a happier memory rather than what he said in "December" before apologizing to her. Hence the shock, to him it wasn't that big of a deal, just a slightly more major than usual falling out.
I suppose next page will be the group discussing things at the lunch table and wondering why Lucy didn't say anything (specially at the Play) and why she made the move. Considering what the group DOES know, they may presume Mike's rejection of Lucy's feelings at the beginning of the last semester was the culprit. I wonder if this will agitate Mike or send him on a major guilt trip?
For Daisy, Paulo and Sue it might smart a bit, all 3 had made some effort for her in the past year or so - the Play practially existed to try and heal the rift between Mike and Lucy, Daisy held Lucy a Birthday Party and Paulo had just made the decision to choose her over Jaz. That said if she's still in town they can try and visit her, I wonder if they'll find her home at all? -

Am I the only one feeling the expression Lucy (partally) has on the last panel is not an entirely positive one? I mean even as he asks if she wants to start over, her expression isn't even one of shock, joy or upset - her face is still pretty dead, she braces herself at her table which I guess suggests shock or that she wasn't prepared to hear this at all...the smile on the last panel to me somehow gives off a bitter, even slightly twisted feeling.
There's so much we still don't know about what's going on with Lucy, what's been going on at home, what happened between Paulo's initial talk with Lucy and Mike approaching Paulo, or how she feels about Mike asking for another chance.
Whatever's going on with Lucy, an olive branch from Mike is far from going to fix things now. I actually worry this is the WORST situation for Lucy right now, while her attitude isn't entirely Mike's fault - he tends to bring out the worst in her -

I find it weird to see people freaking out over Jasmines current mood towards Paulo. Because this is pretty natural break-up stuff. If you break up and manage to keep it incredibly civil then;
A) You both were not really that keen on each other to begin with and thus both parties never really committed anything mentally or physically to the relationship to get upset about.
B) You got really REALLY lucky because most break-ups in the hormonal teen years are pretty much emotional rollercosters for everyone involved.
Yes Jazzie did her best to be incredibly mature about the break up at the party, the point being that it was a massive effort, she had to console herself alone without Paulo to comfort her and clearly didn't feel she could confide in anyone else at that party. Fast forward a week or so and yeah, the inital shock has now given way to anger. Realizing that all along you were simply the "second best" to the person you were with can smart a whole lot no matter how it's put. But one of the stages of grief is anger, so yeah she is going be angry at Paulo for some time, and likely angry at herself because of the knee-jerk reactions she's starting to have around Paulo in private. She knows she initiated the break up, so it shouldn't bother her, but it does because she thought it would be the same as before, just as BEST BUDS and no outside complications. But sadly it never works out like that...
She needs time to come to terms with her feelings and get over Paulo romantically. Paulo's at an advantage because he's already pursuing someone else, he long got over Jasmine and that's the bit that's gonna sting for her. Asking herself why it bothers her so much, but bothers him so little and then getting angry and upset that he isn't hurting over the situation ect. Even if logic wins out, she may still lash out and find the mere fact of him being nearby is likely to set her off. She'll get over it, but it'll take time and a lot of soul searching for her to see if she can forgive Paulo deep down.
also omg lucy smiling I'm sure this won't last and it'll turn out to be a faked one for Sue's benefit. -

On top of that if Lucy really wanted to jump she would have reguardless of Augustus' intervention (she was up there a long time after Aug left. if she wanted to "end it all" she could have easily done it after he slammed the door).
She also smirked at the end of the call with Paulo in "Piece of Cake" - it's not an actual smile, it's a silent mocking expression, as if to say "oh how foolish of you to think of me or to worry about me"
Lucy didn't jump because she ultimately couldn't go through with it, MAYBE if Augustus hadn't been there - she might of screwed up the courage to do it. It may be that Augustus's plain disgust at her somewhat childish protest made her stop and think about things for a bit, or even the fact that Augustus was effectively saying "look fine, you want to make your own decisions, so I'll let you have this one". -

I dunno, from what I can recall lucy never intended to jump in the first place. she smirked and said "I wasn't" when Aug grabbed her hand. and before you try to call foul; I went back just to make sure, page 16 of ten seconds to midnight.
While it hasn't been revealed what Lucy's true intentions on the roof were - a sane person does not stand on the edge of a high rise building normally. She may of more been half admitting that she couldn't bring herself to actually follow through and jump despite pottering about on the roof. Suicide is not a thing taken lightly, Lucy may of been considering it for a while, and from the way the family talks in "Midnight" - major things had to be happening at home to make even her younger brother incredibly concerned for her welfare.
Is it me or does the 5th panel have the first hint of emotion we've seen in Lucy for a while? She was pretty much dead eyed throughout "Midnight" and the one time her eyes were properly visible in "Just Beautiful" was the wild-eyed anger when she snapped at Yashy. I don't know if the puzzled or slightly curious look is a positive sign, it's like she's almost herself for a moment, but Paulo admitting he's missed her throws her right back into her emotionally dead mode. Looking back at "Peace of Cake" - she also went funny during the phonecall when Paulo said he missed her then too, so that doesn't bode well for this attempt really.
