*Chirpy appears, looking worried.*
Chirpy: Girl-Kitty! Why’s your ear all broken anyway?

Lucy: It’s no big deal, I was just born that way. Genetics, I guess. I’m lucky only one of ’em has problems.

*Mike looks at Lucy with concern. She shrugs.*
Mike: You mean..
Lucy: Yeah, deafness runs in the family, but I guess I lucked out.

Chirpy: But why? What’s it mean if you’re generic?
Yashy: “Genetic”, Chirps.

Lucy: It’s something to do with blue eyes and--

Chirpy: WHAT!!

*Chirpy turns to Yashy with tears in her eyes.*
Chirpy: Mommy, YOUR eyes are blue!
Yashy: Huh?

Yashy: OH MY GOD YOU’RE RIGHT!!
*Chirpy covers her mouth.*

*Chirpy and Yashy hug each other, crying.*
Yashy: OH NO I CAN HEAR IT ALL FADING AWAY!!
Lucy: Yashy..
Lucy: Hey, Yashy?
Chirpy: MOMMY I’LL GIVE YOU MY EARS!!

Lucy: YASHY!!
*Chirpy and Yashy look up at Lucy, distraught.*
Yashy: WHAT?!

Lucy: It’s a cat thing. And I was going to say that it’s also because of my fur. Blue-eyed white cats, basically.

Yashy: .. Oh.

*Yashy points at Lucy.*
Yashy: Ahaha, cracka’ got what was comin’
Chirpy: cracka cracka
*Lucy makes a fist.*
Lucy: Watch your mouth

Mike: What kind of cat are you anyway? Not being albino and stuff.

*Lucy proudly gestures to herself.*
Lucy: I’m a Khao Manee.
Yashy: A chao many?

*Lucy imagines herself as a princess.*
Lucy: Which would place me as a descendant of the royal cats of Siam.

*Yashy appears, interrupting Lucy’s thought.*
Yashy: Can I have a poison apple?

*Yashy lays beaten on the ground.*
Mike: Just keep pushing those buttons, Yashy.
Yashy: As if that’s a feat..

Author commentary

Veronica: HERE IS THE LORE… more information on Lucy’s partial deafness!

I really appreciate how this trait that happens to white-furred-blue-eyed cats allowed me to do research on partial deafness and what partially deaf people go through.. it’s something that’s explored more clearly in future chapters. Meanwhile right now it’s something Lucy doesn’t get into much. During the rewrite of the comic I tried to be more conscious about it, because in the past I honestly would forget!!

But it’s quite intentional when you see people care about her partial deafness, and who is actually considerate to it, keep a watchful eye..

For those who don’t get the apple reference, think Snow White and soon you’ll understand.

Lol lucy is one of the “Siam” cat’s..
and its true..
white furred and blue-eyed are the royal cat’s..
but not just that…
a cat that have perfect fur (maybe puffy fur) and had blue and green-eyed would be the one’s had royalty~

I haven’t watched snow white since early childhood. The reference is completely lost on me. Thought maybe the poison apple had been golden but I can’t see how that would apply. Google isn’t being very helpful. So many poison apple references to sift through.
